INTRODUCTION Barnards Green Cricket Club was formed in 1934 and is proud to have become one of the leading cricket clubs in the county. We are fortunate to have some excellent facilities - we have two grounds, two all-weather wickets, two skittle alleys, and club premises which are staffed by full-time stewards and open all year round. Our facilities are available for the community to use for sporting events and other functions and celebrations. Senior Cricket Our senior teams all play league cricket. Our 1st XI play in the Birmingham and District Premier Cricket League – Premier Division Two. Our 2nd, 3rd XI and 4th XI all play in the Worcestershire County League. We also have a Sunday side playing friendlies throughout the summer and we enter many different cup competitions too. Junior Cricket The junior section of the club is essential to the continued growth and expansion of Barnards Green Cricket Club. We have thriving junior training and coaching activities as well as a full programme of matches against other Worcestershire clubs. The importance of the junior section to the club can be seen by the ever increasing number of members. We are proud to say many of our junior members play regularly in our senior teams and play representative cricket at both district and county levels. Clubhouse Our clubhouse runs as a fully licensed premises throughout the year and is host to several other sports and pastimes as well as providing a venue for social and community gatherings. The club hosts crib matches, has 4 skittles teams and runs a Friday evening skittles competition for members. We run a Christmas savings club too. Our function room plays host to many parties and celebrations and is also a venue used by a Dementia cafe and Radio club. This handbook includes a full fixture list, but these are subject to change and we encourage you to visit www.bgcc.play-cricket.com or www.barnardsgreencicket.co.uk for up to date information. We would like to thank you for taking an interest in our club and look forward to seeing you at our games this season.

CHAIRMANS COMMENTS After the severely truncated season of 2020 we were at least able to something approaching a full season in 2021. The 1stXI threatened to gain promotion to the Premier Division but were eventually unsuccessful on the last ball of the last over of the last game of the season , going down to Kenilworth Wardens by the narrowest of margins, which resulted in our opponents claiming the available promotion spot. However, the third placed position still represented the highest placed finish In the club’s 88 year history and the team is to be congratulated in its efforts throughout the season under the captaincy of Ryan Tongue. Particularly notable seasons were had by Zain Al Hassan, who won the Birmingham League Young Player of the season, Ryan himself , Phil Harris and keeper Ash Brewer who snared his 200th League victim. We have an exciting season in prospect as we continue to invest in both the playing and social infrastructure of the club. In replacing the excellent Andy Blannin, we have been fortunate to recruit Phil Tongue as head groundsman, a crucial position as we need to maintain our reputation for quality surfaces at North End Lane and thereby offer every chance for talent to prosper. We have also secured the services of former West Indian professional Jerome Taylor, who has over 130 Test wickets to his name, together with a Test match hundred. We look forward to welcoming Jerome as soon as we get Home Office clearance. The club has also qualified for the Royal London National Knockout and we host Timperley from Cheshire in the first round on Sunday 1st May. Our playing strength remains as last year with the addition of a number of players who will be knocking on the door for 1 st Xi places. We also have several juniors who are in the County Academy and also representing Worcestershire 2ndXI and Herefordshire. Leon Everett has taken on the post of Junior Coordinator and we are confident that our excellent system for developing junior talent will continue to flourish. The 2nd XI had a difficult season due to inconsistent availability not helped by a season limiting injury to captain Jack Mackintosh, but several young players were able to benefit from extended runs in the side and in the end, the Green were unlucky to be relegated and will play this season in Division 3 of the Worcester County League where they will hope to bounce back up again.

The 3rd XI, having been promoted following their undefeated 2021 season, again remained undefeated throughout the league season , only suffering a defeat in the end of season play off. However, with some restructuring of the League, they will again be playing in a higher league this season under the captaincy of Rob Wilson. Jake Betteridge has taken on the skipper ship of the 4thXI who will look to blend youth and experience as they compete in the County League this year. May I thank our sponsors, all players, coaches. followers, and volunteers for their continued support which enables us to provide a safe and enjoyable environment in which to help grow ability at all levels whilst providing a positive social experience in which to develop friendships on and off the field. I am also indebted to Michelle and her team in the clubhouse for their support throughout the year. As I constantly remind myself, there are few better places to be than watching cricket in the idyllic surroundings of North End Lane and/or Newland. Have a great 2022 everyone!! Andy Lamb Cricket Chairman
