Established in 1952, Lotus Lake Day Camp provides a tradition of day camping for children ages 6-14 in Central Vermont. Situated in a rural setting, the camp offers a wide variety of outdoor activities. A “real” Vermont camp.

MISSION

The camp’s goal is to help each child develop individually by providing an opportunity to: • improve in swimming and develop skill in other activities • learn about the natural environment through outdoor experiences • grow in social relationships by broadening friendships and participating in group activities • develop decision making skills and independence in a safe environment

FACILITIES

• 16-acre private lake with swimming and small craft • main shelter with bathhouse & woodshop • craft barn and rec barn • hiking trails, campsites, lean-tos • 3 tennis courts - 2 clay, 1 all-weather

• archery range • all purpose cabin • 325 acres to explore • athletic field • riding ring (not offered 2021)

DIRECTOR

Beth Allen (2014 - present) - Retired middle school health teacher and coach. A sixth -generation member of the Martin family on the Lotus Lake property, Beth, oversees all components of the camp program. Director Emeritus: Dorothy M. Milne (1968 - present)- Dorothy continues the traditions of the founder and her father, Proctor Martin, in helping children develop skills by working and playing together in the outdoors, but on a part-time basis.

STAFF: THE BEST OF THE BEST IN CENTRAL VT

• Camp staff include teachers, college students and high school students, a high percentage of whom have completed the LLC CIT program • Staff are trained in safety and child development and have certifications from national organizations in specific camp activities • Many are LLC alumni and all have a love of children and the outdoors • All staff are screened through the national sex offender registry, and all 18 and over are screened with a background check, and all have to fill out and sign a voluntary disclosure form • A driver’s record check is required for all staff who drive campers • Staff are certified in CPR/First aid and many have their lifeguard training certification.

FULL-DAY PROGRAM (entering Grades 1- 9, no half day program or specialty camps this summer) 9:00 - 4:00 Mon. - Fri. June 28Aug 13 Knowing that Covid-19 will in some way still impact the delivery of programing at camp this summer, it is important to understand that camp will not be the same as it has been. No matter what the programming looks like, we will still hold on to our camp mission which includes the values of: skill building, group building, creativity, exploration, and learning to swim. Not all past activities will be run, or if they do run, it may be in a different way or environment. Gymnastics and horseback riding will not be offered.

DAILY SCHEDULE Daily flag raising and assembly followed by activity blocks in the AM, a break for lunch in the woods, and then activity blocks in the PM. Flag lowering to end the day. There will be time at least once a week for a safely distanced activity that will involve the entire camp.

THINGS TO KNOW FOOD • Campers bring own lunch, marked with name • Use recyclable containers. (Lunches are refrigerated.) • Please no glass containers • New: lunch hikes every non-rainy day, will provide an opportunity for fire building & outdoor cooking (food provided by camper) (NO COOKING ON RAINY DAYS). • Snacks - mid-morning and at end of day • Please pack 1-2 healthy snack(s) in a bag SEPARATE from lunch • We are a pack in, pack out facility in terms of lunch trash • Milk will no longer be provided

GROUPS • in pods of 15-17 campers with dedicated counselors • have dedicated inside space for each pod • have dedicated meeting place for each pod • groups may have more than one age • will wear a mask inside and outside when can’t physically distance

EQUIPMENT NEEDED • Play clothes - shorts, jeans, sneakers • bathing suit, towel • sweatshirt or sweater • hat & sunscreen, • water bottle • rain gear • Due to Covid, Campers are encouraged to bring their own equipment as much as possible (fishing rod, bait, PFD, tennis racket, bow/arrow) • Camp rackets, bows, PFDs, and other equipment can be used and will either be assigned or disinfected after each use. • 2 masks (with way to attach to body when not being worn) Mark all property clearly before sending child to camp. NOTE: LLC is an outdoor camp. Campers should be prepared for any weather. Flipflops are NOT appropriate for hiking and most activities.

REGISTRATION: Online • 7 weeks with a limited camp size of approximately 90 campers/session. • 1-week registrations accepted for Session 1 only. Due to covid-19, we will not be splitting any of the two-week sessions (2, 3, or 4). • An eighth week may be added either at beginning or end of camp depending on school end and/or start dates and staff availability • Online registration link is found on our website, www.lotuslakecamp.com, or directly at https://app.campdoc.com/register/lotuslake. Registration includes health profile. For former campers, please use the account you already created. Call 802 793-1225 to register if you don’t have internet access. Payment: Online (convenience fee will be added) or by personal check sent to 50 Bosworth Rd. Berlin, VT 05602 Deposit: Non-refundable $50.00/camper/week due at registration. Confirmation: Registration is confirmed via e-mail or USPS when health profile is completed online and deposit received (payment in full if registering after May 1st for sessions 1 and 2 or June 1st for sessions 3 and 4) Balance: always open to setting up a payment plan. • Session 1 and 2: Balance due May 1st. • Session 3 and 4: Balance due June 1st Refunds: Due to covid-19 planning, we have changed the refund policy • Deposit: Not refundable, unless camp never opens, in which case full refund will be made. • Cancellation : after balance is due, payments will not be refunded. • Camp closure in session due to covid-19: no refund • Camp closure before camp starts: full refund

TRANSPORTATION

Camp buses pick up children Mon. - Fri., rain or shine according to the following schedule: Due to traffic, construction, etc..., times can fluctuate by 10 minutes. Due to Covid-19 Guidelines with temperature check, we will be running only one bus with fewer stops. There will be limited transportation. Masks will be worn and seats will be assigned. Households will not be mixed in seat assignments. Another bus may be added, but not guaranteed.

PARENT DRIVERS

New: TBD: Due to covid-19, drivers may be assigned a time for drop off and pickup. Times will most likely be between 8:45-9:15 and between 4:00 - 4:30. Communication will happen closer to camp opening.

For those 15 or in 9th grade. Our Counselor-in-training program includes lifeguard training, CPR/ first aid, leadership classes, and experience working with children.
