Picture Yourself in Regional Leadership FEATURING INTERVIEWS WITH PAST & PRESENT CENTRAL REGION TAMIOCHUS
Soror Debra Wilburn CENTRAL REGION TAMIOCHUS 2020-PRESENT
What motivated you to seek the office of Tamiochus? I was motivated to seek the position of Tamiochus beacuse I wanted to use my financial knowledge & expertise to make Central Region GREATER now and in the future.
What's one accomplishment you made and one challenge you faced during your tenure? One of my accomplishments during my tenure was to reestablish the recording of the region's finanical transaction in Quickbooks Online. The region has or will benefit from this accomplishment in three ways: The region was able to prepare financial statements, perform financial audits and file Form 990 for three (3) consecutive sorority years in a 9-month period. The region utilized Quickbooks Online to implement electronic payment of individual and chapter assessments. It will allow for the longevity of the region's financial records, continuity in the financial reporting, as well as, ease of transition when financial officers change.

"The position of Tamiochus entails more than reporting on the budget and making sure there is an audit (which are also important!). It calls for adaptive skills such as creativity, communication, and collaboration."
What advice would you give a Soror interested in being Tamiochus? What skills or strengths are beneficial in this role? This position of Tamiochus requires a combination of skills and characteristics. A soror in this position should be able to balance these responsibilities with ease: Knowledge - Thorough understanding of financial reports. It helps to have some financial background, which may require some supplemental training in nonprofit financial terminology and requirements. Communication - The ability to translate financial information and financial concepts for the Board of Directors. As well as, communicate the financial implications of board decisions. Planning - Be able to partner with regional leadership to develop a useful budget. Budgets are the financial version of a strategic plan and it is the responsibility of the Tamiochus to make sure that the budget priorities and decisions reflect the intentions and objectives of the Board of Directors.

Strategy - A great Tamiochus goes beyond annual budgets, audits and financial reports to bring financial leadership to the region. They have to be able to look down the road to find the financial options and decisions needed for the longer term goals, events and initiatives of the region. Oversight - In addition to the legal requirements, due diligence & fiduciary duty, the Tamiochus oversight role is about putting good systems in place. The process for selecting an auditor, establishing a budget preparation and review timeline or creating and leading the timeline for filing 990's. The position of Tamiochus entails more than reporting on the budget and making sure there is an audit (which are also important!). It calls for adaptive skills such as creativity, communication, and collaboration.

Soror Dharathula "Dolly" T. Harris CENTRAL REGION TAMIOCHUS 1986-1988 2012-2014
"It is not only numbers but how you deal with situations and having the trust of the Region." What motivated you to seek the office of Tamiochus? In 1986 I had put in an application for the office of Central Region Grammateus. Soror Eunice Atkinson was running for that office. Soror Mary Adams asked would I run for the office of Tamiochus, for no one applied for it. I said sure if that is what is needed “I will do it.”
What's one accomplishment you made and one challenge you faced during your tenure? The biggest challenge at that time was chapters not paying their assessments on time. Chapters would come to conference and pay the chapter assessment on spot. I standardized forms and brought the deadline for assessments to be paid in line with the National due date. It benefited the Region by having funds to function and made operations smoother.
