Christ the Good Shepherd VIGIL

August 9, 2015 2015

PARISH MISSION STATEMENT Christ the Good Shepherd Parish rejoices in being a diverse community united in faith in Christ Jesus. Rooted in the Eucharist, we continue to be molded into the Body of Christ as we witness to the Gospel through our sharing of resources and service toward others, our commitment to Catholic education and our friendship with one another.

Steak Roast This Monday (August 10) Blood Drive Next Sunday, August 16 CELEBRATE THE ASSUMPTION OF MARY This year the Feast of the Assumption falls on Saturday, August 15th and is not going to be celebrated as a holy day of obligation. However, it still is a good day to remember that Mary’s going into heaven confirms a promise made to each of us, that one day we, too, can take our place beside her and her Divine Son. Let us remember those other saints who have joined her this year, especially those from our parish.

This Monday is the Steak Cookout at the Knights of Columbus on Outer Dr. in Lincoln Park as we try to raise funds for the parking lot. Come and join the fun and have a great dinner. Tickets are available after masses or at the door.

This weekend - Anointing of the sick at all Masses. Monday - Steak Roast CGS Fundraiser. Tuesday - Baptism Prep., 6 p.m. - Finance Committee, 7:30 p.m. - Vocal evaluations, 7:30 p.m.church Next Sunday - Coffee and Donuts after both Masses. - Blood Drive, 8:30 am - Gym

Fellowship Luncheon

As I write this, our Polish Fellowship on Tuesday, August 18th has only 11 tickets left. All remaining tickets must be purchased by this Wednesday, August 12th. Since this is being catered, we will not be selling tickets at the door. So, for all who purchased a ticket, we will see you next Tuesday, Aug. 18 at 11:30 for a delicious Polish meal of stuffed cabbage, mashed potatoes, green beans, cucumbers w/sour cream, bread/butter and angel wings for dessert. Also, Bingo with fantastic prizes is included! Bring your appetite and good luck charms! Joanne

Thanks to the many parishioners who have made the effort to bring plastic bags to church to keep up the supply for those who do the crocheting of sleeping mats for the homeless. However, at this time we will not be accepting anymore. Storage space is running out. We need more help cutting strips. If you can help in this regard it would be most appreciated. To know how, go online: Recycled plastic bags sleeping mats. https:// www.youtube.com/watch? v=ELO0NjhYuSg

Rooneyisims: (cont. from last week) This little piece could well serve to honor Andy Rooney, one whose last few years evidenced great wisdom, though, at the same time he became something of an ornery old dude. They're written by Andy Rooney, a man who has the gift of saying so much with so few words. I've learned.... That under everyone's hard shell is someone who wants to be appreciated and loved. I've learned.... That to ignore the facts does not change the facts. I 've learned.... That when you plan to get even with someone, you are only letting that person continue to hurt you. I've learned.... That love, not time, heals all wounds. I've learned.... That the easiest way for me to grow as a person is to surround myself with people smarter than I am. I've learned...That everyone you meet deserves to be greeted with a smile.. I've learned....That no one is perfect until you fall in love with them. I've learned... That life is tough, but I'm tougher. I've learned.... That opportunities are never lost; someone will take the ones you miss. I've learned.... That when you harbor bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere. I've learned.... That I wish I could have told my Mom that I love her one more time before she passed away. I've learned.... That one should keep his words both soft and tender, because tomorrow he may have to eat them. I've learned....That a smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks. I've learned..... That when your newly born grandchild holds your little finger in his little fist, that you're hooked for life. I've learned.... That everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the happiness and growth occurs while you're climbing it.
