CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES STUDENTS' FORUM The Student's Forum organises meetings, competitions and other such co-curricular activities and provides an opportunity for the students to exhibit their talents. The annual festival of the forum "POLYFEST" is celebrated in the month of December / January every year.

THE INSTITUTION OF ENGINEERS (INDIA) STUDENTS' CHAPTER The Institution of Engineers (India) Students' Chapter has been functioning in our Polytechnic College since 1978. Meetings addressed by eminent personalities from the industries and institutions are arranged periodically. (All students of Polytechnic College are eligible to become members on payments of a subscription of Rs. 20/- per year for three years.) The Chapter improves technical know how and leadership qualities of students. After completion of Diploma, the students can enroll as Senior technicians in the Institution of Engineers (India) and are eligible to do AMIE Section A & B to quality themselves equivalent to Bachelor of Engineering. NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME NSS of our Institute has two units with 200 volunteers. They undertake community and rural development activities in and around the adopted villages. These units concentrate on Adult Education programmes, Health and hygiene campaigns etc. In Addition to regular activities, special camps are also conducted. NATIONAL CADET CORPS The Institute has a Signal unit and an Air Wing unit. These units are open to the interested students. The training in the above develops self reliance and discipline.

- 61 -

ROTARACT CLUB The Rotaract Club of CIT Sandwich Polytechnic College was started in the year 1997 under the sponsorship of Rotary Club of Coimbatore Texcity. The club organizes several self development and community service programmes. YOUTH RED CROSS Youth Red Cross movement has been functioning in our institute since 1999. This unit is attached to the International Red Cross Society and St. John's Ambulance. Members of the movement are trained in first aid and other health care programmes. SPORTS AND GAMES All facilities are offered to students who take part in outdoor and indoor activities of sports and games. The Polytechnic Students take part in the Annual Zonal / Inter Zonal games and sports meets of polytechnics apart from the Inter Polytechnic Athletic Association Competitions and other intramural events.

TUTORIAL SYSTEM This is unique system, which enables a closer contact between the students and the teacher. As per the system, the students are assigned to tutors. Students should send their leave letters and other correspondence to the authorities only through their respective tutors. Regular meetings with the tutors will help the students to get themselves adjusted to the academic life. They can always freely discuss their difficulties in studies and extra curricular activities with the tutors.

HOSTEL Our Polytechnic boys are generally accommodated in Kailash Block of the Hostel Complex. The general management of the Hostel shall be vested with the Principal who is also the Chief Warden. He is assisted by Deputy Warden and the Resident Tutors.

PLACEMENT CELL A dynamic placement cell is functioning in our institute for the benefit of our students. Many companies visit our institute every year to select candidates suitable for employment in their units. Besides organizing Campus Interviews, the placement cell also helps the students to find right jobs throughout our country. Esteemed Industries from all over India recruit, our students through campus interview every year from OCTOBER to APRIL. The Students are trained to enhance their skills to face the interviews. Interested students are requested to register their Names with the placement officer.

CIICP CELL Under the Canada India Institutional Co-operation Project (CIICP), many short term courses, workshops, seminars, training and awareness programmes are being conducted for our students, staff members and Public people. The following are the Thrust Areas of CIICP in our institute. 1. Continuing Education 2. Industry - Institute Interaction 3. Staff Development 4. Student Services 5. Women in Developments 6. DETAILS OF SANDWICH COURSE & INDUSTRIAL TRAINING In industry, the Foreman or Supervisor occupies a key position as the leader of primary working group of craftsman. The performance of supervisor entirely depends upon the extent to which he blends theory with practice. The Sandwich scheme envisages a thorough integration of industrial training with institutional study. This will very much help to improve the practical knowledge and enable them to provide solutions to the problems they face, as engineers in industrial setup.
