Strategies 24.1

Cleaning Requirements Council’s child care staff are to maintain a clean and safe environment for all children. a)

Staff will leave all child care centres tidy and in a state that will facilitate maximum use of cleaning contractors.

b)

That the frequency of cleaning at all Council’s child care centres be five (5) days per week.

c)

Cleaning contractors will provide Safety Data Sheets for all cleaning products used in Council’s child care centres.

d)

Cleaning contractors are to maintain each of Council’s child care centres at a high standard of cleanliness while maintaining a safe environment.

e)

Cleaning contractors are to comply with Council’s Policies, Procedures, Privacy Act 1988, OH&S requirements and all contractual conditions.

Cleaning Specifications for all Council owned Child Care Centres and Ancillary Services to Child Care Centres a)

Entrance 1. Sweep and wet mop floor - daily 2. Remove gum and stains - daily 3. Spot clean entrance doors - daily 4. Wash clean entrance doors - daily 5. Sweep clean the footpath areas and remove footpath litter - daily 6. Shake door mat free of grit - daily 7. Spot clean walls and door jams - weekly

b)

Office and Child Care Area 1. Empty waste bins and replace liners - daily 2. Sanitise all waste bins – weekly 3. Vacuum carpet floors throughout the premises - daily 4. Detail clean all carpet edges - weekly 5. Remove spots from carpet - daily 6. Damp wipe uncluttered desks - daily 7. Dust and damp wipe all other furniture - weekly 8. Dust and damp wipe window ledges throughout centre - weekly 9. Spot clean internal glass and mirrors - daily 10. Spot clean walls, light switches and door jams - weekly 11. Sweep, wet mop and machine-buff vinyl floor to high finish - daily 12. High dust - monthly 13. Clean and dust children’s storage box areas - daily 14. Empty and clean waste bins and replace liners - daily 15. Spot clean walls around waste bin – daily 16. Sanitise clean all waste bins - weekly 17. Full squeegee clean all internal glass and mirrors - weekly

Verandahs 1. Sweep clean all verandahs – Monday, Wednesday and Friday 2. Hose down - monthly

d)

Kitchen Areas 1. Empty and clean waste bins - daily 2. Replace waste bin liners - daily 3. Sweep and wet mop vinyl flooring - daily 4. Buff floors to high shine - weekly 5. Clean cabinet tops - daily 6. Wipe clean sink and fixtures - daily 7. Spot clean walls and door-jams – weekly 8. Move fridges out from wall and clean beneath, beside and behind – fortnightly 9. Clean all stoves, fridges, microwaves etc - fortnightly

Sanitise all toilets – daily 9. Check and replenish toilet paper, soap and hand towels (supplied by Council) – daily 10. Check stocks of toilet paper, soap and hand towels and inform the Director if new stock is required – weekly

Miscellaneous 1. Weekly - Clean and damp dust all skirting boards 2. Monthly – Dust wipe clean and wash all ceiling fans 3. Three (3) monthly – Steam clean all carpeted areas throughout the premises including external and external floor mats 4. Three (3) monthly – Remove all cobwebs (skylights and rafter included) 5. Three (3) monthly - Strip and reseal all vinyl flooring 6. Six (6) monthly – Squeegee clean all external glass

Ancillary Services to Somerville Park Early Childhood Education Centre a) Consultation Rooms 1. Empty waste bins and replace liners - daily 2. Sanitise all waste bins – weekly 3. Vacuum carpet floors throughout - daily 4. Detail clean all carpet edges - weekly 5. Remove spots from carpet - daily 6. Damp wipe uncluttered areas – daily 7. High dust - monthly
