Cover and speculative letter examples

First letter natalie o’brien This cover letter is set out in a very professional way, with the candidate’s name and contact details at the top of the letter. This allows for the employer to contact the candidate to talk about the job that they are looking at going for. Overall, the language in the letter is very formal. This is good for the letter because it shows a lot of professionalism that the candidate has and this makes them more likely to get the job than someone who is using colloquial language. This shows me that I need to be as professional as I can be, but using language that isn’t too abnormal from what I would usually use and this makes myself come across as fake and maybe over the top. The letter also gives some background information on the candidate, and what they could provide for the company. Having her information on the letter allows for the employer to see what she can do and why she should be considered for the job role at hand. Information is needed on the cover letter, as well as the reasons for wanting the job. In the letter, it shows experience that she has and this helps the employer see why she would be a good fit for the job.

Second letter –

This is a brief example of a simple cover letter that can be used for jobs and work experience. Overall, the language is a lot more simple and this may not come across as professional as the previous cover letter. This means that if you compare the two, the candidate with the previous letter may be thought about more when it comes to hiring than this cover letter. However, it is a good example for someone who has never written a cover letter before. Because it sets out exactly how the letter should look. This could be considered a fool proof way of doing a cover letter, but it does not really show any personality of the candidate and how they word things themselves. Having an example is going to be a good start for someone who doesn’t know much about cover letters and they want to get an overview of the whole letter before writing their own. The comparison is that both are very different from each other, the first one is detailed and full of personality with her writing and language whereas the example is very basic and simple for those who haven’t written one before. Overall, the first one would be more successful as a cover letter because it does not seem standard and almost robotic.

Speculative letters:

This speculative letter is asking for a job at a business that is not actually advertising a job. This is an example of what needs to be in a speculative letter and it is quite basic. Yet it is a really good example for someone who doesn’t understand fully what the letter is asking for. The language is simple, yet effective for that employer to look at them and consider them for the business. The language could be considered hopeful since there was not actually a job being advertised, but if the candidate makes themselves look as good as they can, then they may be able to get a job in the business they desire. The addition of the CV is important too because then the employer can look at their education and previous experience, although this is put in the letter too. This allows for them to consider the candidate and see if they would suit the company, making them really think about the job they could do. Overall, this is a good example of a speculative letter as it sets out the basics of what should be included and how it may work for gaining a job at that company.

This speculative letter is a good example because it is not a template like the previous example. This is from a gentleman wanting to get into a nature reserve. He shows that he has got previous experience, and this makes him a good candidate for a job. This is important for the letter because the employer can now think about the candidate and consider him for a job, even though there may not be one going. The language is very professional and is not considered pushy. This is also important because if the candidate comes across as pushy and demanding, then he will not be considered for a job in the business. Having the language very professional is more appealing than using colloquial language and not coming across as serious for the job. Overall, seeing an example from an actual person instead of just a template is better for someone who does not know how to word a speculative letter. Therefore this example is better than the previous one due to it being from an actual person and not a simple and basic letter that does not show who the person is and what they have done.
