Rules and Regulations Regarding E Waste In India.
1. Extended Producer Responsibility The rule has strengthened, which is the global best practice to ensure the take back of the end of life products. 2. Producer Responsibility organisation The producers have to meet targets, which should be 20 percent of the waste generated by their sales. It also says that the responsibility of producers is not confined to waste collection, but also to ensure that the waste reaches the authorised recycler. 3. Ministry of electronics and information technology It has initiated an e-waste awareness programme under digital india, along with industry associations from 2015, to create awareness among the public about the hazards of e-waste recycling by the unorganised sector.
4. Electrical and electronic equipment Equipment which are dependent on electric current or electro - magnetic field in order to become functional. 5. Deposit refund scheme A scheme whereby the producer charges an additional amount as a deposit at the time sale of the electrical and electronic equipment and returns it to take consumer along with interest when the end of life electrical and electronic equipment is returned.

Indian Policy of E Waste vs Policies of Other Countries.
India:●The E-Waste Management Rules, 2016 have recently been amended by the Centre; vide notification G. S. R. 261 (E), dated 22nd March, 2018 to facilitate and effectively implement the environmentally sound management of e-waste in India. These amendments have been made with the objective of channelizing the e-waste generated in the country towards authorized dismantlers and recyclers in order to further formalize the e-waste recycling sector. ●The amended Rules revise the collection targets under the provision of EPR with effect from 1st October, 2017. Further, there shall be a 10% increase every year until the year 2023. After 2023, the E-Waste collection target has been fixed at 70% of the quantity of waste generation ●Separate collection targets have been introduced for new producers who have recently begun their sales operations. These would be producers whose
sales operations are lesser than the average life of their product. ●The CPCB may conduct random sampling of electrical and electronic equipment placed in the market to monitor and verify the compliance of reduction of hazardous substances provisions and the cost of sampling and testing shall be borne by the Government.
South Africa The e-Waste Association of South Africa (eWASA) was established in 2008 to manage the establishment of a sustainable environmentally sound e-waste management system for the country. Since then the non-profit organization has been working with manufacturers, vendors and distributors of electronic and electrical goods and ewaste handlers (including re-furbishers, dismantlers and recyclers) to manage e-waste effectively.
China Chinese laws are primarily concerned with eliminating the import of e-waste. In October 2008, The Chinese State Council also approved a "draft regulation on the management of electronic waste. This regulation is intended to promote the continued use of resources through recycling and to monitor the end-of-life treatment of electronics. Under the new regulations, recycling of electronics by the consumer is mandated. It also requires the recycling of unnecessary materials discarded in the manufacturing process.
Israel Israel adopted a national e-waste law that went into effect March 1, 2014. By 2021, the law demands that electronic companies must recycle at least 50%
of the weight of the electronics they sell.In addition, these companies are required to accept old electronics from consumers free of charge. Israel’s e-waste laws have resulted in much greater participation in recycling. One of Israel’s main companies, M.A.I., an electronics recycling corporation, has reported that they have recycled 5000 tons of electronic waste in 2014, which already exceeds their personal requirement of recycling 4700 tons. Canada In February 2004, a fee similar to the one in California was added to the cost of purchasing new televisions, computers, and computer components in Alberta, the first of its kind in Canada. Recycling regulation passed in Ontario in October 2004, requires producers to "either develop product stewardship plans or comply with a product stewardship program for specific products.
Recommendation to Government bodies concerned with E Waste Disposal.
1.Providing market information regarding e-waste prices. ->There is a well-established market for e-waste within and between informal and formal sector operators. However, the prices for e-waste and its components are not widely known or publicised among urban consumers. 2.Incentivising formal e-waste recycling ->The Indian Government could introduce a pointbased reward system of E-waste Recycling Credits (ERCs) for formal organisations to incentivise them to channel their e-waste through governmentapproved recycling centres. 3.Upskilling informal sector players ->The majority of the informal e-waste recycling workforce needs upskilling, particularly for handling and dismantling hazardous materials, ensuring environmental and occupational health and safety
of their work, and linking supply to formal sector processors. 4.Deploying readily available and mature recycling technologies ->There is urgent need for deploying mature recycling technologies alongside existing manual techniques to improve recycling efficiency of the large volumes of e-waste being generated in India. 5.Developing innovative methods and technologies for processing new forms of e-waste ->The composition of e-waste is changing rapidly as new electrical and electronics devices enter the market.
