A total of 38 vans came to Terrington St. Clements Village Hall to celebrate New Year. Thirty Anglia ‘vans and a sprinkling of East Midlands, Sussex, West Wessex, and Chiltern. Although a new venue to some members it was a case of deja vu to some of us older ones, as we always used this venue in the dim and distant past. We were pleased to find that the hall was decorated for Xmas still. On arrival the urn was on and once they were parked up members could enjoy a welcome cuppa. Monday evening after Keith’s welcome chat we all sat down to a cheese and paté supper with locally baked French stick bread as well as the usual biscuits for cheese. This was washed down with mulled wine. Bingo was then played to the extreme profitability of certain members. New Year’s Eve many members went off on the good bus service to King’s Lynn or Spalding whilst others explored the village which has an interesting variety of shops, including a hardware shop that you could not believe still existed in these days of B&Q etc! New Year’s Eve afternoon tables were decorated ready for the off and at 6pm we all sat down to a pie and mash supper with peas or beans prepared by Marie, Teresa and Margaret with assistance from their partners and other members who did the spud peeling etc. There were sweets of all types to follow and the meal was a great success. There was a bottle of Bucks Fizz supplied on each table and we were then entertained by Steve Moyse who was a great act with a mix of music to suit all tastes and ages. At midnight we saw in the New Year with party poppers, glow sticks and much fun and laughter as well as liquid refreshments of every type known to man and woman. New Year’s day started at 12.30pm with a “brunch” which actually came out as a “Full English” with toast etc. The kitchen staff excelled themselves here as usual. This was followed by a cream tea at 3.30pm, again prepared by the kitchen ladies. Bingo was played in the evening with the usual success by some members. The Dodgy Dip was drawn and then a massive raffle. Thanks to the stewards: Keith, Teresa, David, Margaret, Marie and Richard and not forgetting other members who “volunteered”? to assist during the rally. Thanks to Carol for taking the bookings and bringing the extra kitchen equipment, which made the kitchen staff’s job a lot easier. Derek and Carol even brought their heated trolley from home. How else do you keep 80 pies hot and then 160 sausages and as many bacon rashers? Important – Easter, Xmas and New Year rallies are bookable by Anglia members up to the 15th March and bookable for all other groups after this date. Scribe Derek
Upcoming rallies: 14-16 February at Smithdon High School, Hunstanton PE36 5HY. Starts: 4.30pm. 28 February-1 March at Fakenham High School, Fakenham NR21 9QT. Starts: 5.15pm.

We had a full program of events for our New Year rally at Shepton Mallet including bingo, scattegories, quizzes and music. On the second day we had afternoon tea with homemade cakes provided by the committee which were delicious. This was the start of quite a few days of feasting with fish and chips on Monday, organised by Gill – thank you. Then hot sausage and egg rolls for breakfast on Tuesday morning and cheese and wine in the evening, kindly organised by Yvonne and Penny. Thank you both very much. On Monday there was horse racing hosted by Allan and his helpers – Marilyn, Katherine and Penny – and in the evening Daz entertained us with music, singing and frivolities. New Year’s Eve afternoon was movie time and the evening started with music by Mark followed by our grand raffle draw. After the draw it was play your cards right with Sue. Then our tribute showcase starting with Allan and Roger as Laurel and Hardy, Katherine as Marianne Faithful. Mark and Yvonne were Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton, Colin was Johnny Cash and it finished with Kevin strutting around as Freddie Mercury to great applause. Mark danced us into the New Year with his disco and Val from Ireland found the golden ticket in a balloon to win a bottle of wine. The best decorated table was won by the West Country group. At coffee morning, Sue gave out the prizes for various quizzes which were won by Christine and Brian Gautier, Bob and Lyn Lewton. Sue said the rally had been a great success and 46 vans had attended. We also had great help from Pete and Dave who assisted any members with battery trouble and sorted out any problems around the school.
The last day finished with movie time in the afternoon and in the evening we had bingo with Allan and a quiz with Roger. All in all, a very enjoyable rally. Roger and Katherine Upcoming rallies: 27 February-1 March at Northam Farm, Brean, Nr Burnham-on-Sea TA8 2SE. 9-14 April is our Easter rally at Stratford Touring Park, Stratford on Avon Racecourse CV37 9SE.
CHILTERN

Due to using commercial sites we have a good number of bookable rallies this year. Please ensure that when you request a pitch on these rallies you TEXT Julie Noakes (number on website). Other methods of communication will not be accepted and your request will not be processed. Your text is a record of your request and is far less likely to be overlooked. Julie will reply to your text and you will, in time, receive an email requesting payment for the holiday rallies. This system will hopefully ensure no member turns up at a bookable rally only to find they don’t have a pitch. It seems a long while ago now but here is Lyndy Swain’s write up of the Chiltern Christmas rally – It’s that time again, the most wonderful time of the year, and it saw the merry band of Chilterner’s getting together to celebrate the season. The rally was attended by 17 Chiltern vans and two from Avon group, and was hosted by the committee. Once settled everyone that wanted met in the hall for games night. First game based on the old beetle drive was build a snowman which involved rolling dice and collecting items to build your snowman. The game was competitive and there was an odd snowman (Ian Jefferson)! Second game was building a freestanding tower out of barbecue skewers and marshmallows. Not sure how many were eaten compared to used within the designs but there were some ingenious designs. There were three towers and safe to say they didn’t all stand! Caroline arranged a couple of other games which
3
involved balloons and cups and a lot of flexibility. Wendy Jefferson proved to be the most flexible but not to be outdone saw Colin Swain changing into pyjamas to allow him to prove his worth. Not all participated and those that didn’t appeared to have fun watching. Saturday saw some walking to the local garden centre along the canal whilst others remained and relaxed. Caroline and her helpers decorated the hall making it feel festive for the evening meal and party. Outside caterers Wild Garlic came to provide our evening meal and whilst last year there was some discussion about the portion sizes and the heat of the food I don’t think anyone could criticise this year’s meal. Following the meal we had the lovely Leon DJ Jones who managed to appeal to everyone’s taste and kept the dancing going till gone midnight even if he was a little sceptical about playing Sandstorm for us. Sunday morning and time to make our way home with good wishes for Christmas and another year of memories made. Upcoming rallies: 14-16 February at Diamond Caravan Park, Islip Road, Bletchingdon, OX5 3DR (bookable). 20-22 March at Burford School, Cheltenham Road, Burford, OX18 4PL (bookable).
EAST MIDLANDS
07562 324 325
Please use the secretary’s phone number (above), East Midlands’ website or Facebook page to check whether a rally is on before setting off. Please note that these rallies in 2020 will be bookable due to limited pitch space: Valentine’s at Great Limber and Country & Western at Ingoldmells. Forms at rallies and on East Midlands website. Bookable through Anne Taylor: 07414 852 497, [email protected]. Bookings for our Grand Dinner Dance and New Year rallies and a recently arranged rally at Brownhills, Newark 6-8 November (not listed in our rally booklet) will be taken after the 1st August. Christmas Party at Torksey Polish Scout Camp – For many weeks before hand the rain had poured down, but our traditional Christmas Party, hosted by the Committee, went ahead, though with fewer vans than usual. Throughout the rally there were little treats, such as Bucks Fizz, mince pies and party plates of food on Saturday night. We enjoyed a variety of entertainment including Paul’s Christmas quiz and carols from Grandad (alias Malcolm). Our junior members entered into the spirit and fun of the weekend, and although without their more ‘senior co-conspirator’, they were determined to win with their rendering of “5 gold rings” and blasted their verse out with gusto! Santa came along and with a well-earned pre-Christmas gift for them! Thank you to

Santa and his team for finding the time to come and see us again at this busy time of year. All too soon, it was Sunday coffee morning when Anne thanked everyone for making this such a wonderful weekend. Once again, the East Midlands Group had celebrated Christmas in style. Sue P New Year Rally at Ingoldmells, 29 December-2 January. This was our first time at the Royal Arthur Centre and the first time with East Midlands for New Year – it certainly won’t be our last! A huge thank you to Anne, Ron, Yvonne and Brian for all their organising of – bingo, scattergories, karaoke, soup and roll plus party games on New Year’s Day (to name but a few). We enjoyed exceptional weather (did they put a word in for that too?). A most enjoyable four days which we certainly hope to repeat in 2020. Julie Goddard Stewards Anne, Yvonne, Brian and Ron would like to add a huge thank you to all members who attended the New Year Rally and provided such a fantastic atmosphere over the whole rally. EAST WESSEX Hello everyone, we arrived for our Xmas rally at Easebourne School on Friday 13th December and thankfully it didn’t live up to its reputation of bad luck as we had a smashing weekend. On the Friday evening we decorated the hall and had our usual catch-up. Saturday morning was free and most people went into the Midhurst for coffee and cake. In the afternoon we met for tea and mince pies and a game of card bingo. That night we had a retro buffet (food from the 70s and 80s) with cheese and pineapple on sticks etc all provided by E.W. members and it was much appreciated. The entertainment for the night was a singer called Jake Ward from Andover and he was brilliant; he wasn’t just a singer but an all round entertainer. If you ever get the chance then go and see him. All in all the evening was fabulous. Sunday morning duly arrived to even more torrential rain and we had chairman’s chit chat where we welcomed visitors from Essex, Sussex and West Wessex. We also congratulated our chairman Peter and his good lady Jackie on their forthcoming wedding on New Year’s Day (see photo opposite). Our New Year’s rally found us at Wickham Community
centre on Monday 30th December. In the evening we had a lovely selection of cheese and crackers provide by Yvonne in celebration of Vic’s birthday. The next day some people went off to nearby towns but most stayed close getting ready for the forthcoming celebrations. Early evening we had a selection of hot food i.e. vegetable soup with crusty bread, chicken curry, jacket potatoes, chilli and rice and spaghetti bolognaise, plus xmas pudding and custard. I think we all ate our own body weight in food! We then cleaned up, went back to our vans and dressed to impress for our evening entertainment which was by our very own professional singer Diane who sang her tights off. It really was a smashing night, well done everyone. January 1st and the majority of us had booked lunches at the local pubs. Some went out to visit friends and family, we met up that night to have a fiendish quiz by Eddie – a practice for the National he said... We then played proper bingo run by Charlie and Diane. All too soon our rally came to an end but we would like to thank everyone involved for a lovely time. Welcome to new members David and Catherine Bamforth. Janet Macey is the co-ordinator for the National, if you need any information please contact her on janet. [email protected]. Unfortunately we have had to cancel our planned Valentine’s rally at Rodborough School. Eileen
ESSEX Our New Year rally was for us a new venue but other members had been to Bradwell on Sea Village Hall before. It was a lovely village and a good size hall with some adjoining rooms. The hall was open the whole of the time for members to come and go as they pleased with the tea urn on as well, what more could we ask for. The party started on Friday night with our usual game of bingo; I believe a Chiltern member won, congratulations to them. We then played the prize under the chair game which was good fun and you certainly found out who your friends were or were not in some cases. The winners all thought they had won a bottle of washing up liquid only to find it had a letter on it which corresponded to a bottle of spirit with that letter. It was background music after that and then back to the vans for sleep. Tuesday saw quite a few members invade the local pub for lunch, us included. Everyone said how good the food was and how friendly the staff were. Back to the hall for a film show or back to the vans for a sleep. The evening started with a buffet prepared by our own Mrs Kipling and her helpers and very good it was too. Thank you to all concerned. Ronnie our DJ started the evening off with some very good music which carried on until the early hours of the morning. The New Year was celebrated with Bucks Fizz, After Eights, poppers and a balloon net. A good evening was had by all. Wednesday saw a few hangovers but tea/coffee, toast and marmalade and marmite was served in the hall. After staying for a couple of hours the first members booked into the pub started to drift off. The pub was literally taken over by Essex and again the meal was excellent and the staff lovely. Back to the hall for a film show with popcorn, pick and mix and choc ices. Definitely on a diet as of Friday. The jigsaw that was on the go all weekend was completed. Over the hall in the evening for another buffet and we had the raffle with so many prizes as is usual with Essex. We then had a Chinese raffle with meerkats being the most sought-after with a few cuddly toys as well. A very good evening with loads of laughter and good fun. Thursday we were over the hall for the last time for our Chairman’s waffle. Bob thanked everyone for attending and those who helped which was too many to mention. So ended our first rally of 2020 and we look forward to the rest of 2020 rallying. John Upcoming rallies: 7-9 February at Blenheim Primary School, SS9 4HX. 6-8 March at Riverside School, SS5 6ND.

ISLE OF WIGHT Happy New Year motorhomers, the Christmas holidays have passed and as we start 2020, we remember the lovely meal we had at The Fighting Cocks in Arreton (thefightingcocksiow.co.uk). Twenty-five members had a lovely time, especially the ‘Secret Santa’, thank you again to Suzanne for organising it. Most of us are getting a bit ‘stir crazy’ having not been out in our vans for several months, due to various reasons, and are very eagerly looking forward to the new rallying programme. Upcoming rallies: 13-15 March at The Old Barn Touring Park, Cheverton Farm, Newport Road, Apse Heath, Sandown, Isle of Wight PO36 9PJ. All rallies start at 12pm. Please contact the group rally officer if you would like to attend, details on the website (www. mcciow.com).
KENT Very little to report this month with no Kent rallies. A dozen or so Kent members welcomed in the New Year at the Sussex group rally in Crawley and a good time was had by all. Thanks go to both Carole and Gordon and the Sussex committee for organising this event. The Kent DJ team performed a set incorporating a floss dance competition and a Def Leppard gymnastic session and thanks for this go to Freya. Our next rally is to be held on the 20 March in Dover where the theme is an “Eighties Extravaganza”. The rally fee is set at £25. A further reminder to all members that this year the Kent group committee will not be sending out a rally programme to all members as it merely duplicates the information already sent to members as part of the annual Club Handbook. Should members require a separate rally programme, an updated version is always available from the Kent group website – or for those with no access to the internet please telephone our group secretary and Janice will send you a rally programme via the Royal Mail. The Kent group are also intent on updating our membership database during 2020 to include email addresses. To assist us, please if you are happy to do so, let our group secretary Janice know your email address. Please remember to visit our Facebook page or kentgroupmcc.weebly.com for the latest updates and further information including any special offers available to members. Upcoming rallies: 20-22 March at St Edmund’s School, Dover CT16 2QB. Starts: 5.30pm.
LANCASHIRE Rain, dry or windy was the weather at Turnover Hall Farm. There were 36 Lancashire ‘vans plus one from East Midlands attending. We had a busy time with bingo on Friday followed by a quiz of Christmas riddles presented by Lisa. Bonus ball numbers and tickets sold for the Super Christmas Raffle. Dean and Jack provided the music and a group of members lead the sing-along. Jack was presented with his stylish new President’s regalia. Ten o’clock on Saturday saw the Crafty Crew busy making Christmas table decorations with Val guiding us and ready with the glue gun. The evening started with a sherry reception followed by a lovely Christmas meal with choices to please all. Our entertainer, Sue Forrest, said when she appeared on Britain’s Got Talent that her ambition was to do a One Woman Show on television, and that is exactly what we got! She gave us jokes and songs and everyone enjoyed her humour, and many danced after the interval during which Allan and Brian presented Take Your Pick. Sunday coffee morning and the raffle was drawn, the lucky winners had their choice of many consumables useful at Christmas time. There were more lucky winners on two Bonus Ball games. Mel gave his thanks to the people on the committee, and all helpers, who had worked hard over the weekend. He also wished all safe journeys and a Happy Christmas. Our New Year rally was a sunny but cold Warren Farm with 27 ‘vans attending including five from NWM&NW and one from Anglia. Saturday night dancing was followed by bingo and a quiz. On Sunday Val had the Crafty Crew making flowers for our hair (even Brian!), ready for 1960s New Year theme. In the afternoon we played bean bag boules with Joyce defeating Beattie in the all-female final. In the evening we had the Chinese raffle where the tin of Jaffa Cakes proved to be a popular prize. This was followed by Take Your Pick with Brian and a surprised Tony presenting. Lisa won the big money! Monday’s entertainer was Damon Noon, who is an old friend of our group. He didn’t disappoint, thrilling members singing with them or to them!
Lancashire group – the Crafty Crew Choir

New Year’s Eve started with another craft session, making jewellery to use with our flower power outfits etc. Later some practised their bean bag boules whilst others did the food shopping then preparation for the super buffet. MOTORCYCLE Hi all, now that you have received your Motorcycle Group Rally Programme for 2020, I hope you will be joining us. We have an exciting year planned and look forward to meeting up with you again. We have invitations from four other groups, allowing us to explore other areas. Being a countrywide group this gives you all a chance to come together and as we travel to your area we will tap into your local knowledge of great rides where you live. I will be telling you a little more about the upcoming rallies over the next three issues.
Our first rally on 7-11 May is at Brecon Cricket Club. Sited adjacent to our site is Morrisons, giving the opportunity to fuel not only the body but the bikes as well, for those who wish to. It is also adjacent to the river Usk offering fine walks; the town itself is filled with everything conceivable, good food, pubs and shops. Around the area there are plenty of superb roads to ride upon. We hope to organise ride outs to the Red Kite Feeding Station at Rhayader, Elan Valley reservoirs and the Black Mountain Pass for the scenic views. 14-18 May at Abingdon Airfield Air Show. This is a bookable only rally via MCG secretary. This is a four night rally where you will see more than 70 light wing aircraft arriving and performing in the air or as static displays including the PITTs M12, (see picture) helicopters, air balloons, classic motorcycles and many other vehicles, a night photo shoot, model aircraft displays along with trade stands. The cost of this unique rally is £35 (plus rally fee £1 per person), which includes entry for two people sharing a van, access to the show, a small barbecue, with possible music on the Sunday night at no extra expense, which is provided by the show organisers. There are no charges for children under 15 or dogs, but all animals must be kept on leads at all times and exercised in the area specified. There is additional costs for extra adults. The site is only 9 miles from Oxford and we will have a shuttle bus available on Saturday to transport you for a small fee to the city. With all this it is a wonder if we will have time for ride outs but we will do our best. Martin has suggested a visit to the H Cafe on the Friday. This is an extremely outstanding offer, access will only be granted on arrival to those producing an official entry ticket. With restricted numbers we urge you to

obtain a booking soonest by contacting our secretary Pat on 07826 080304. Entry tickets will include your final directions to the site. Please do not attend without first booking. Don’t miss the boat, booking is now open and is filling up quickly. To see photos from previous years and reviews of the show visit the website: www.abingdonairandcountry. co.uk/the-show/about-the-show There will be further information on ride outs on the MCG Facebook page as we get closer to the rally dates.
NENE VALLEY Twenty-four vans arrived for our Christmas rally at South End School in Rushden. We just about managed to accommodate all 24 vans on the playground without having to send any members to other parts of the school grounds. Tony and Mick did an amazing job of parking everybody up in appalling conditions – dark, cold, driving rain and gale force winds! As the historical society had booked to use the main hall in the evening, we all met up in one of the classrooms for our usual catch-up – it was cosy to say the least but nobody seemed to mind. The rain had stopped by Saturday and the wind had dropped considerably. Two Christmas trees were erected and dressed, one by Ann and the other by Geraldine. After coffee, the tables were put out and covered in table cloths ready to be decorated. Everybody met in the hall at 6pm for a glass (or two) of sherry. This year as we didn’t have the facilities to cook a full Christmas meal like we have done in the past, Nene Valley decided to try something different. We provided the starter, cold turkey and ham for the main, followed by the desserts. Members brought in their own food to go with the meat. The food brought in was quite astounding, ranging from simple salads to full blown roast dinners with roast potatoes, vegetables etc. Jane had booked Billy de Laine to entertain us – a comedian and singer. What a very funny man he was and what a superb voice he had when he sung. He had a break half way through so we took advantage of that to do the raffle. Sandra outdid herself this year, and we had so many donated gifts we had to put another table out to take them all. Billy then carried on till just after 11pm, and managed to get people up on the dance floor. By about 11.45pm everybody had staggered back to their vans for a well-deserved rest. Coffee morning on Sunday was bright and not nearly as windy as Friday, which meant travelling home was a good deal easier. We hope everyone enjoyed the Christmas weekend and look forward to seeing members at our rallies in 2020. Upcoming rallies: 14-16 February at South End Junior School, Wymington Road, Rushden NN10 9JU. Bookable.

Starts: 4.30pm. 19-22 March at Main Street, Great Bourton, nr. Banbury OX17 1QU. Bookable. Starts: 2pm.
N. IRELAND Cookstown, 13-15 December – At 5pm 49 vans arrived, which is exactly the same number as last year. It was one of the coldest evenings of the year with rain and sleet in the air giving our hosts that extra hardship. However Florence McClune and Mary Cameron greeted us warmly and we were quickly parked up by Joe McClune and Bill Cameron. The night started with mince pies, shortbread biscuits and mulled wine, all provided and served by the Little family and I must say they were delicious. Gary then went on to host a series of party games which were both extremely funny and very entertaining. On Saturday it was only a short walk into the town to see the Christmas Market with plenty of wares on display. Saturday night our esteemed chairman, Joe Little, provided a wonderful evening of music. The best Christmas jumper was deservedly won by Irene Hewitt who was delightfully dressed in a little elf’s number. Sunday coffee morning was addressed by our secretary, David Gilmore, who thanked all concerned with the running of a very successful rally. The number plate draws were won by Davy and Evey Pirie and Billy Little. The quiz was won by David, Christine and Phoebe Chew. Ben and Ellie Robinson were congratulated on their 52nd wedding anniversary. Congratulations to Gary and Yvonne Little on becoming grandparents again. Bailey Stewart enjoyed a birthday. Congratulations to Ramanus and Rita on the purchase of their new motorhome. Enda and Florence Ballymena, 30 December-1 January – Receiving a warm welcome from our hosts Des and Carol Crawford, Andy and Julie Irwin, MCCNI descended on Ballymena Rugby Club to see out the old year and welcome in the new. With the hectic festive period behind us Monday night gave everyone a chance to unwind with a relaxing drink in the bar, swap Christmas stories, and of course support the Rugby Club coffers! Tuesday gave all the chance to get to town and with the famous shopping of Ballymena or Blooming Village of Broughshane on offer, members were spoilt for choice. Although a brisk dander in either direction was on offer the Des and Andy shuttle service was in full operation and allowed many to save the shoe leather. With 45 vans having made the trek our numbers were swelled by members who kindly spared the parking and attended under their own steam to join us in celebrating the big event. A buffet dinner provided energy to see us through to midnight and dance away to Muff’s very own Mick Jagger, before a rousing rendition of Auld Lang Syne proved the warmth and camaraderie in the Club is strong as ever.
No rally would of course be complete without the usual prizes and celebrations. Billy Little won the quiz with Rhonda Smith and Victor McFadden claiming the entry draws. Birthday wishes were extended to Frank Horner, Kathleen McFetridge and belated wishes to Tom Adair. Jack and Florence Little Upcoming rallies: 14-16 February at Sperrin Integrated College, Magherafelt. An Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) will be held on the Friday (14th). 28 February-1 March at Larne High School.
NWM&NW The last rally in 2019 was our Christmas Party at Oswestry Showground. A small working party arrived on Thursday and set about making the large hall look ready for a party with streamers and Christmas trees. A big thanks to Mike who was scrambling up and down the tower tying together the foil garlands. It soon looked a lot like Christmas. Pam and Bob had the task of parking up the 31 vans, including visitors from Lancashire, Severn Valley and Spain, booked in for the rally. By Friday all was set for the usual bingo games. Shirley and Darren Hill were the main winners with one or two others. Saturday was party night, starting with a sherry reception followed by our three-course Christmas meal. Once again the caterers did a wonderful job providing a delicious meal for everyone. Monty Scott, our entertainer, arrived and soon entered the spirit of the evening with his good humoured banter. Father Christmas, although he was very busy, made a surprise visit to Jakob Hill. He mentioned something about a Harley Davidson, so maybe it was Rudolph’s night off. Monty (Leo Sayer lookalike) took over the rest of the evening with a lively and varied range of songs involving the audience at every opportunity. Glynis became his mambo dance partner (next step Strictly?). A huge thank you must go to everyone who helped throughout the weekend to make it a success. Thanks also to those who entered the ‘draw a Christmas music picture’ quiz. There were some good illustrations. Prizes went to Carol, Sue and Kay. Well done to Glynis for entering the ‘name the song title’ quiz. Coffee morning had an unexpected interruption when the fire alarm was triggered by the steam from the urn. Everybody left the building safely. The next rally is at Rushbury Village Hall near Church Stretton when there is a photographic competition on the subject of “buildings”. No people or vans in the pictures please and a maximum size 6” by 4” with a limit of three per person. Upcoming rallies: 7-9 February at Rushbury Village Hall, Wall under Haywood, Church Stretton, Shropshire

SCOTTISH Hello fellow campers old and new – by the time you read this we will have entered a new decade. Your new scribe is not so young anymore having been a member for 32 years. Little did I think 20 years on I would be back writing group notes. At this time of the year there is little news to pass on. A new committee consisting of a quorum of six has now been formed till the next AGM. As a long standing member I remember rallies being mainly of three-days duration. This of course is prior to the days of social media, mobile phones and sat navs. When approaching a rally site I communicated by CB Radio and was guided to my destination by fellow members. My handle was Squeezebox, and I would be guided on site by either Serendipity, Jasper, Bounty Hunter or Northern Belle to name a few. Weekend rallies would sometimes consist of a Friday night welcome serving soup or tea and coffee. Saturday there was always a social in a hall, pavilion, barn or sports club. Sunday there would be coffee at 11am before members departed on their journeys home. A typical social club of the times but on wheels all with a common interest. Now that’s enough of me reminiscing but for me these are good memories. A lot of water has passed under the bridge in this time. For example our group membership is only half what it was 25 years ago. There are various reasons for this but our committee hope to address this issue. A good place to do this will be at the Warners Show at Ingliston listed in the rally programme. We kick off our rally programme on the 10-15 March at Cairnsmill CP in St Andrews, this is a bookable meet. Reason being this site has a barrier, they prefer to have a list of vehicle registrations. For this one please phone Aileen Clark, our group secretary on the number listed in the main magazine’s Club contacts page. Hope to see you soon at meets. Regards, Squeezebox
SEVERN VALLEY Much Marcle Xmas Meal Rally 2019 – What an atmosphere with good friendship and company, plus entertainment and delicious food; what more could anyone ask for. We had just fewer than 50 motorhomes in attendance, the majority being from Severn Valley group and a few lucky other group MCC guests who managed to secure a place due to unexpected cancellations.

All motorhomes were parked up on hard standing in a designated area on the pub car park. A lot of members took advantage of a special negotiated reduced price drinks and food evening on Friday night in our own private function room. Entertainment was given by an Irish music duo, part of the group called The Roving Crows, they were amazing. Saturday morning those who wanted breakfast could have it for only £6 a head and many enjoyed it so much they went back for it again on the Sunday morning. Some members just chilled out on Saturday or went into Ledbury Town for shopping. Saturday night we had our Xmas three-course meal with free wine included on the tables and a 60s band to entertain us all for the evening. All weekend rally cost, for only £55 per couple everything included. To end the weekend rally we had our usual coffee morning and raffle with some lovely prizes to be won. Our Chairman, on behalf of himself and his committee, wished everyone a safe journey home and a wonderful Xmas. New Year Rally – What a successful, brilliant time we had at this committee-run rally. The Severn Valley group committee gave something back to their members for their support throughout 2019. They decided this year to give all MCC members who have supported them a great time to remember, and at a subsidised rally price of only £13 PUPN. Saturday night we had Mickey Dee, a top professional entertainer, to start our event on a high. Sunday afternoon a film show followed in the evening with bingo and background music to chill out and talk. Monday we had another film show and a ploughman’s cheese supper, games, quiz and a disco. Tuesday we had another film show and cake. On New Year’s Eve we had Jeremy’s homemade punch at 7pm, all this followed by the professional top quality group Them2 giving live entertainment well into the night to see the new year 2020 in. The fancy dress support was amazing and very funny with many taking part. All over the weekend members got together in our warm and cosy coffee lounge to enjoy tea, coffee, biscuits and chocolates which were provided. New Year’s Day we had coffee morning with excellent prizes, a raffle, followed by a large number who went across the road to the local pub for a sit down meal together. New Year’s night time we had drinks, nibbles and background music for those who stayed. A Happy New Year 2020 to all from Severn Valley group. Upcoming rallies: 14-16 February at Deanwood Yorkley GL15 4TY. 27-29 March at Yew Tree Farm, Bewdley DY14 9TH. 10-13 April at Northam Farm, Brean Sands TA8 2SE.

There were 29 vans at the Christmas dinner rally: 22 SWP, one Severn Valley, and six West Country. The weather provided us with every element except snow! Friday evening saw our mega Christmas raffle been drawn, many thanks to Ian and Sally for organising this. This was followed by music from Mandx to which most people got up to dance and certainly everyone joined in with the singing. Saturday saw most people going out for a walk or socialising. We met at 4pm for mulled wine and stollen before returning to our vans to put on our finery for dinner. An excellent three course meal with a carvery for the main meant people could fill their plates as full as they liked. Throughout the meal a merry banter was heard through the whole room. After the meal Freddy Zapp entertained us along with a disco. On Sunday morning we held our coffee morning and many vans departed after this. There were 10 remaining vans to enjoy the curry evening which was followed by John’s “men vs women” quizzes; once again this was won by the men, next year it must be the women’s turn! Many thanks to Phil and his team at Headley Wood for an excellent weekend and thank you Yvonne and Steve for the hard work you put into the weekend. A report for our New Year rally will be in March’s magazine. We look forward to seeing old and new friends throughout the year. Upcoming rallies: 13-16 March at Watergate Bay TR8 4AD. To include a cheese and wine evening with some fun games to get you thinking!
S&W WALES 13-15 December at Pencoed Comprehensive School – It was a wet and windy December weekend but this did not dampen the spirits of the 34 vans that turned up for the Christmas Party celebrations. Our members were joined by three visiting vans from Avon for the ‘Guys and Dolls’ themed festivities. The school hall was welcoming for the Friday night get together and all enjoyed the quiz organised by our Entertainments Manager Keith followed by our Vice-Chair Betty’s very funny ‘guess what’s in the sock’. On Saturday everybody got in the party mood by dressing up as Guys and Dolls; it was decided that it was impossible to choose a winner so everyone was declared a winner. The three-course catering included a delicious hog roast followed by a very entertaining Lionel Ritchie tribute act and much dancing and partying until late. There was a raffle prize for everyone and a fabulous night was had by all.
At the Sunday coffee morning there were traditional mince pies to enjoy. One of our loyal members, Ray Jasper, has been in hospital for some time and Chairman Gerald, with Glyn and John are going to visit him. Everyone sends love and best wishes to Ray and his wife Pauline. Thanks to the committee for all their work organising this weekend. 30 December-2 January at Princess Gwellian Centre, Kidwelly – The warm and welcoming Princess Gwellian Centre at Kidwelly was the venue for the New Year Party weekend which was hosted by the committee. There were a total of 30 vans which included visitors Pat, Paul and Betts from Nene Valley. Festivities started on Monday evening with a quiz, won by Linda and Ritchie’s team, which was followed by bingo. With improved dry weather during the rally many took the picturesque bus ride to shop in Carmarthen or enjoyed walking around the nearby wildlife reserve and estuary. The hall was open all day for socialising or tea and coffee with the New Year’s Eve starting with bingo and a quiz which was won by Nina and Jeff’s team. The live entertainment was provided by Raven (Emma) with a wide repertoire of songs that had everyone dancing well into the early hours. New Year began with a coffee morning and the much anticipated Curling Challenge between the men and women. The winners were the men! I feel that the women probably let them win to salvage their male pride! Chairman Gerald wished everyone present and all S&W Wales members a very Happy New Year and he looks forward to seeing you at rallies in 2020, many of which are at excellent new venues. Please note – the 15-17 February Valentine’s rally is at Rhiwbina School – with easy transport into the centre of Cardiff and live professional entertainment on Saturday evening. The 28 February-1 March St. David’s Day rally is at Pencoed School. Upcoming rallies: 15-17 February is our Valentine’s rally at Rhiwbina School, Cardiff CF14 6HL. Starts: 5pm. 28 February-1 March is our ST David’s Day rally at Pencoed Comp. School, Bridgend CF35 5LZ. Starts: 5pm.

SUSSEX We had a great New Year meet at Crawley and were lucky with the weather during the day, although the nights were cold and damp. The hall was open for the whole meet with the urn going and it was well used! Sunday evening was a meet and greet in the hall and a general relax before the partying began! Monday some caught the bus into town or visited the local pub which did a great curry. In the evening we had great entertainment from Neil Mack with his music, guitar and boy, can he play a fiddle! Nobody could sit still! New Years Eve most relaxed during the day, many getting together in the hall in the warm. The evening we had Tony and John (from Kent) and their disco. Absolutely brilliant, and once again everything that could tap was tapping! It was my birthday and with cards, ballons and nibbles, they really made my night. Thank you both. We also had a ‘flossing’ demonstration (nothing to do with teeth!) by 8 year old Freya, who was looking after her nan and grandad Phil and Mel for the new year. She then judged a competion which some of us slightly older members participated in. This was won by Linda Wallis, who will now be known as flossie! Well done Linda. Thanks also to Freya who taught some a lot! On Wednesday some who have to do that four letter word thing left, but the rest carried on partying. We had quizzes organised by Len and Carol in the hall in the afternoon, with a lot of laughter, rivary and cheating! Maybe you should make them a little easier next time Len, alcohol dulls the brain! We had our usual raffle and bonus ball, but also a huge gift basket donated by Maureen Lawson from Kent to raffle for our charity, The Cleft Palate and Hair Lip Assosciation. This with a donation from Tony Vial raised over £100. We thank them both. In the evening we had music spot walzes, and games, again a lot of hilarity and rivary, organised by Mandy. A great night again. Thank you Mandy. Thursday morning it was farewells good wishes and safe travels for old and new friends until the next meet. All tired but hopefully happy. We had 35 vans in all, from Sussex, Kent, Essex, Chiltern and Anglia. Thank you all for making a great meet, see you all again soon. Thanks to the hosts Carole, Gordon, Carol and Len for all their hard work, particularly Carole who really had to fight to get the hall for us, otherwise we’d have been discoing in the playground. Carol Seymour Upcoming rallies: 14-16 February is our Valentine’s meet at Uckfield Technical College, Downsview Cresent, Uckfield TN22 3DJ. Starts: 5.30pm. Decorate tables as much as you like Saturday night, and wear something red! Please bring your own water if possible as we

The committee wish to thank the Avon group for an excellent New Year party at Shepton Mallet. Ten vans from the West Country group attended their festivities and all agreed it was the best yet. We have promised to return again next year. Thanks to all that made it such a great New Year. WEST WESSEX New Year Rally 2020 at Colehill School, Wimbourne on 29 December-2 January – The rally was attended by 27 vans: two Severn Valley, five Avon, one Chiltern, one West Country, three Kent, two Essex, one South West Peninsula and 12 from West Wessex. On the Sunday about 20 vans arrived and after settling in we gathered in the hall to meet, greet and chat with background music being provided by Keith Snook. On the Monday the other vans had arrived and in the evening we gathered in the hall to enjoy a jacket potato supper of either coronation chicken with coleslaw or cheese. This was followed by apple pie and cream. We were entertained once again by Keith with some music and a music quiz. On Tuesday, New Year’s Eve, we all gathered in the hall and after a welcome drink sat down to enjoy a wonderful meal of roast beef/pork with all the trimmings, followed by a selection of sweets. The festivities continued with a disco which had everyone up dancing and enjoying seeing in the new year. The evening ended at around 1.30am with all heading off to their beds to gather strength for a new day. On Wednesday we gathered in the hall and enjoyed a cheese and ham ploughmans. Afterwards we played the Bruce Forsythe standard of “play your cards right” followed by some bingo. During the evening we were entertained by a member from the Kent group with a rendition of Jethro the cornish comedian. He had the

YORKSHIRE A great time had by all who attended our Christmas rally at Driffield. Everyone participated in wearing Xmas jumpers and hats on the Friday night, when we were entertained by members Graham, Trevor and partners, with a funny sketch and singing. Loved joining in with singing Christmas carols and joining in with the fun and games. We would like to thank Graham, Trevor and partners for a very enjoyable time. On Saturday many of our members went into Driffield to sample the cafes, restaurants and public houses. On Saturday night we were entertained by Jade Adams. At our New Year rally at Malton and Norton, we had five nights of fun games and entertainment. On Saturday night we had quizzes and bingo, on Sunday morning we all enjoyed bacon butties and a drink before some members went into Malton, and others stayed in the room to just chat or play games and do a jigsaw. On Sunday night we had a singer, Jimmi, who sang songs from the 60s to the present day. On Monday many members went to Malton, Pickering before coming back to enjoy a buffet meal and a night of fun and singing by our member Graham Brown and also another member who played his guitar and sang, thank you Graham Sugden. On Tuesday, New Year’s Eve, we had a black and white theme and would like to thank all our members who participated. We were entertained by singer Micheal Mandelson who helped us bring in the new year.
