Science Vocabulary Quick Starts Introduction to the Teacher Science Vocabulary Quick Starts help students review science terms they have previously learned so they can retain the information and learn to use the terms in the classroom and in real life. The activities provide students with a quick start for the day’s lesson by focusing on a few terms from a topic of study. The quick starts activities in this book include matching, fill-in, true-false, word scrambles, and other activities to help students build and maintain a powerful science vocabulary. Each page contains two to four quick starts. Suggestions for using Science Vocabulary Quick Starts activities include: • Copy and cut apart the quick starts on each page. Give students one activity each day at the beginning of class. • Give each student a copy of the entire page to keep in their binders and complete as assigned. • Make transparencies of individual quick starts and complete or correct the activities as a group. • Put copies of quick starts in a learning center for students to complete on their own. • Use as homework assignments. • Use quick starts as questions for a review game such as a science bee. • Use quick starts as a quick activity before dismissal.
