Click the mouse to set hard points to help the tool direct the selection. The mouse can also be used to back up, or moved over a point to delete it (after positioning the mouse, hit delete). Keep dragging until all but the clouds in the sky have been selected. • Return to the starting point and when the cursor turns into an “OK,” double-click to make the selection.

5. Click the Delete Background button 6. In step two, drag the clouds photo into the window from My Photos 7. In step three, move and resize the HarbTown image so that it takes up the whole bottom part of the image

Step three: Touch up photo PhotoDeluxe Business Edition’s flexible design makes it simple to move back and forth between photoediting tasks. Even though a special effect has been added, it is easy to go back to the Touch Up section to do some more fine-tuning. The following activity will step through adjusting the color of the combined photo. 1. With the HarbTown image still open, click Get & Fix Photo> Touch Up> Fix Color 2. Click on the Variations button> More Red The Variations button shows previews of how the photo will look after more of a specific color is added, making it easy to adjust colors. For example, by clicking on the More Red option, you can create a warmer tone to the photo.

Step four: Add photo to a professionallydesigned business card template

Step five: Save and print the finished business card

Adobe PhotoDeluxe Business Edition provides hundreds of business templates for creating compelling marketing materials and business documents with photos. These professionally-designed templates take advantage of advanced Adobe technology to deliver crisp, clear text and artwork in print.

PhotoDeluxe Business Edition includes many options for sending and printing photo projects—including support for Avery paper stock.

Flip through the six buttons to see the variety of projects PhotoDeluxe Business Edition offers its customers. Notice the broad range of activities from preparing photos for presentations, to placing them in promotional materials like direct mail cards and flyers.

PhotoDeluxe Business Edition comes with a variety of professionally-designed templates for business cards, direct mail cards, letterhead and more!

2. Click the Cards tab> Business Cards 3. Click on the first step and save a copy in the Hold Photo area when prompted

1. Click on the Send & Save button> To Disk. Click on the Save button and save your business card

The To Disk tab is where photos can be saved or exported to file formats like JPEG or PDF. Under the To Application and Email/Web tabs, step through Guided Activities to save photos in appropriate formats for e-mail, the Web, or to be used in other applications such as Adobe PageMill, Microsoft Word or PowerPoint.

4. Click on the Choose Card button This brings up galleries with thumbnail pictures of the templates available for the current activity. 5. PhotoDeluxe Business Edition makes it easy to choose the best paper for the project, by defaulting to the Avery stock best suited for the document. To choose a different paper type, click on Choose Type and select the paper from the list of Avery or other papers.

If printing to Avery paper, the business cards will print to the specification for the paper shown in step one. If printing to plain, non-perforated paper, choose the number of business cards to print by selecting from the Copies Across and Copies Down menus.

Project Two: Create and prepare a graphic for the Web In this project, create a great-looking Web banner in a few easy steps.

Step one: Stitch together photos to form a Panorama 1. Click on Special Effects button> Collage> Panorama

Once you click on the Stitch button, the software looks for similar edges in the photo and stitches them together into one panorama. The Panorama Guided Activity is limited to three photos to help familiarize the user with this type of activity. For users who want to create 360 degree panoramas, PhotoDeluxe Business Edition comes with a fully unlockable version of the plug-in. To unlock, users simply follow the instructions included on the PhotoDeluxe Business Edition CD-ROM. 5. Click on the Projects button> Web. Click on the Banners button When prompted, save the Panorama photo to Hold Photo. 6. Click on text and change the name of the company this project uses a Panorama stitching plug-in from WOOD TOOLS to STONE FACE. Then developed by a company called Infinite Pictures change the W to an S (added based on findings from Adobe’s real estate market research). Change the point size, colors and fonts. Scroll and open, one at a time, “Panorama1,” “Panorama2” and “Panorama3.” Make sure to open them in order so the application knows how to stitch the photos together. Skip the Scale and Match steps. These are optional steps to further match the scale, brightness, contrast and colors of the photos (since these are sample photos, they already match). 4. Click the Stitch button. OK the preview and click through to the Done tab

Use the text tool to customize templates with different fonts, colors and sizes.

Step two: Step through the Web page Guided Activity 1. Click on the Send & Save button> Email/Web> Web Page The Send & Save area has options for preparing photos for Email/Web, or sending the document to other applications like Adobe PageMill. The Web Page Guided Activities prepare photos for use on a Web page. 2. Finish stepping through the Guided Activity

Paint Your House Guided Activity 1. Click on the Projects button> Business 2. Click on Business Guides This section uses Connectables to provide Guided Activities specifically designed for vertical markets, such as real estate agents, travel agents and consultants. Through Adobe’s research, these types of businesses were shown to use (or want to use) photos in marketing materials like flyers and presentations. 3. Click on the Real Estate button

Adobe Connectables Adobe Connectables provides customers with new, downloadable information and Guided Activities on a regular basis via the Web. Connectables are new Guided Activities, content (such as clip art, stock photos and templates) and useful information updated and downloadable monthly. Connectables are offered in two places: Under Business Guides, where projects are specifically designed for vertical markets like Real Estate and Travel; and under the Internet button where there are general Connectables and links to Adobe Web sites for product information, updates and technical support information. Under Business Guides there is a “Retrieve” button which, although transparent to the user, sends the application to a special, protected area on Adobe’s Web site. The application then brings back new Guided Activities and content from this Web site area and updates the user’s current Business Guides (which will initially include Real Estate, Travel and Consultants). Retrieve can also potentially add new buttons to the Business Guide to address new vertical markets. To try this activity, you will not need an Internet connection since we will work with the vertical market activities included on the CD-ROM.

Through market research, Adobe found Real Estate agents currently use a lot of film-based photos. The current workflow is to take photos with a regular 35mm camera, drop off the film, have it developed, then scan the photos or paste them on house flyers. Under the Real Estate button, there are Guided Activities specifically designed to make it easier for Real Estate agents create things like house flyers, or to tweak a house’s appearance before showing it to a prospective client. 4. Go to the File menu> Special> Get Sample Photo. From the Travel tab open the photo “Phouse.” Click on the Paint Your House button This Guided Activity is great for showing a prospective buyer what an old house would look like if freshly painted, or what a new house might look like if painted a different color. 5. Click on the Color Wand button. Click on the house paint and keep clicking on different areas of the paint until enough of the paint is selected (Beta bug alert: If the selection does not grow as you click on the paint on the house, bring up the Selection palette from the View menu. With the Color Wand tool selected from the menu, click on the Color Wand icon with the plug sign and continue clicking on the house paint.)

6. Click on the layer button and make a new layer with 30% opacity 7. Click on selection fill and choose a color to paint the house. A light yellow-orange works well. Once the house has been painted, use the touch up tools for additional refinements. To take this project one step further, use the finished photo in one of the many House Sheet templates under the Real Estate tab.

Try the Advanced Section Guided Activities are a good place to start for training and design ideas.
