GENERAL INFORMATION ON THE SCHOOL The Navy Children School [NCS (Mumbai)] is a co-educational school for classes from Std. I to XII and is located in Navy Nagar, Colaba. This school was commissioned on 14 November 1989 by Mrs. Krishna Jain, President, Navy Wives Welfare Association and follows the CBSE curriculum. It is run by the Navy Education Society (NES) and administered by the Headquarters, Western Naval Command. It prepares pupils for examinations conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The motto of NES is: savaao-%tma\ sava-~ sava-da. 1. Aim: The Navy Children School aims at the over-all development of each student's personality, laying emphasis on the inculcation of a rational outlook. The school endeavours to achieve academic excellence amongst the students and the development of an insatiable thirst for knowledge. It also aims at promoting basic human values of life. 2. Academic Session: The academic session of the school commences on the first working day of April and ends on the last working day of March. 3. Syllabus & Curriculum: The Medium of instruction is English. For Std. IX and X, a second language option (between Hindi and Sanskrit) is given. Sanskrit is taught as a third language from Std. • For Category III TO VII. Class I To XII :- Admission will be subject to availability of vacancy in end Jun 22 Online Admission Test for students from other schools: 21 to 25 Mar 2022.

*Children of all ex-naval personnel given the status of Exserviceman (ESM) will be eligible under Cat – III. Personnel who do not qualify for this category will be accorded Category VII– Others. All admissions shall be as per the categories mentioned above and would be subject to the availability of seats in the concerned class Procedure for Admission :Step1. Parents are to submit ONLINE ADMISSION FORM through www.ncsmcampuscare.in. Step2. After the successful submission of online Admission form, the same to be downloaded and printed back-to-back on A4 sheet. Which is to be counter signed by HOD Step3. WITHDRAWAL FROM SCHOOL Cases of Withdrawal 1. By parent: One month's notice is to be given with fees paid for the month. 2. On Disciplinary Grounds: A student may be suspended/expelled from the school by the Principal, on the advice of the Discipline Committee, for bad conduct or bad behaviour considered detrimental to school discipline. Re-admission is subject to clearance of all dues and availability of seat.

ISSUE OF TRANSFER CERTIFICATE i) Online Transfer certificate feature is provided in the dash board of Entab CampusCare portal. ii) Request for Online Transfer certificate is to be given at least one month in advance and Transfer certificate will be issued only on clearance of all dues. iii) Copy of one cancelled cheque is to be uploaded along with Transfer Certificate for obtaining refund of Caution Money, which will be done through NEFT transfer. iv) Duplicate copy of a Transfer Certificate is not normally issued. Duplicate copy may be issued on production of an affidavit that the original Transfer Certificate has been lost and penalty of Rs 100/will be charged. v) In case Transfer certificate has been applied for, there will be no cancellation. Re-Admission can be done. vi) If Transfer certificate is 11th or any date after 10th, fee for the whole month will be retained by the school.

INSTRUCTIONS TO PARENTS 1. Please read and understand the contents of this almanac. Check it

regularly for entries from the school. 2. Parents should furnish to the school, their latest office and

residential address and telephone numbers. These are vital in the interest of the safety of the students. 3. See that your child carries textbooks/exercise books according to the timetable for the day. Parents must glance through the books, notebooks and answer papers of their children. 4. Parents should not call up teachers at their residence. The problems/doubts should be emailed to [email protected] seeking an appointment with the concerned teacher. 5. Encourage your wards to take a balanced interest in studies, cocurricular activities and sports. Ensure they are prepared for Continuous Assessment. 6. Children are prohibited from bringing crackers, colours etc. to the school. Bursting of crackers or playing with colours is liable to lead to suspension/expulsion of a student from school. 7. Wards should be instructed to be careful about their belongings. Expensive articles like jewellery and excess cash should not be brought to school. In case of violation of this rule the articles will be confiscated. 8. Boys must have a proper haircut. Girls must plait their hair if it is longer than their shoulders. 9. The school discourages distribution of chocolate bars and expensive confectionary on the birthday of the students. Simple wrapped sweets are acceptable. 10. Students should not visit public places in school uniform. They are responsible to the school authorities for their conduct both in school and outside. Misbehaviour in public places will be dealt with severely. 11. Delivery of Tiffin, Books etc. to the school during working hours, will not be accepted. 12. Parents will not be permitted to take students home during working hours for any reason, unless there is a medical emergency which has been communicated by the school. 13. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES ARE PARENTS ALLOWED TO DIRECTLY WALK IN TO THE CLASS ROOMS. THEY NEED TO HAVE PRIOR APPOINTMENT TO MEET THE TEACHERS IN THE VISITORS' LOUNGE.

Vice Principal and teachers. Please co-operate with the school for the safety & security of our students. 16. Appointment with Doctors or any social engagements must not be arranged during school hours. No partial attendance will be permitted. In case of Medical appointment/visit to the Hospital in morning the student will be permitted to enter school up to 10.30 a.m., with a copy of the relevant medical papers of that day. 17. Entry to the office is from gate 1. 18. Parents are requested to update their contact details on Entab CampusCare Portal and inform the Class Teacher via Class email Id, so that they may be contacted quickly in case of necessity/emergency. 19. In case of damage to school property, the entire cost of replacing will be levied on the student(s) responsible for the damage or the entire group/class in case of damage to class property. 20. It is important for you to interact frequently with your child's teachers on Visiting Days and on PTIs. For std. I to VIII and XI, XII: In case of inability to attend the PTI, send a letter of authority and have the transcripts collected. For std. IX & X: As per CBSE rules, the transcripts are retained by the school, In case of inability to attend PTI, please send a note to the Class Teacher and visit on the following Wednesday to see the transcripts. 21. SCHOOL RULES FOR STUDENTS The following abridged but salient rules are for strict compliance:A. School Almanac and Identity Card 1. Identity Cards must be worn to school on all days. Loss of an Identity Card is a punishable offence. 2. The school almanac must be brought to the school every day. 3. All entries in the almanac from the school must be shown to parents and entries made by the parents to be brought to the notice of the relevant school staff. 4. Any child representing the school must be in proper uniform, be appropriately attired for the concerned activity and must be in possession of his/her Identity Card. B. Attendance 1. Regular attendance in school is most essential. The minimum requirement of attendance in an academic year is 80%. 2. Leave of absence is given to students on prior application from the parents. 3. Request for leave should be intimated via the Entab Campuscare Portal. 4. Request for Long leave (more than 7 days), Medical leave, leave during mandatory days to be emailed to [email protected] 5. Students absent on account of illness are to submit valid medical certificates on return. 6. Students suffering from any communicable disease must observe the prescribed period of quarantine before returning to school. They must also produce a Medical Fitness Certificate at that time. 7. During examinations, if a student is ill, but can give the exam, they must report at the reception and separate arrangement will be made for such students, so as to minimise risk of infection to others. Parents to collect the students after examination. 8. Repeated absence without leave or unexplained absence for more than seven consecutive days renders the students liable to have his/her name struck off the rolls. Re-admission will be granted only on payment of all dues and fresh admission fee. C. Punctuality All students must be present in school 10 minutes before the scheduled time. The school gate will close at 7.50 a.m. All late arrivals, without justified reasons, may be sent back home. After three late arrivals, parents will be contacted to take the child home. D. The school aims at behavioural elegance and the inculcation of discipline, individually and in groups, while on school premises, functions as well as during the organized trips. 2. They should always remember that the school is judged by their conduct. 3. Irregular attendance, neglect of homework, disobedience or disrespect towards staff or bad moral influence would lead to strict disciplinary action, in accordance with NES Guidelines. 4. Any damage to school property will be made good by the offending student(s) and would entail disciplinary action. 5. Classrooms would be locked when not in use. The class monitor will have a key with lineyard of the classroom. The entire class would be responsible for any damage to class property. 6. Bullying and use of foul language are punishable offences. 7. Students should greet their teachers when they meet them. 8. The school has a 'DISCIPLINE COMMITTEE' consisting of teachers and members of the PTA who review disciplinary cases and recommend penalties on the lines prescribed by the NES. 9. The school has constituted a committee which will look into reported cases of CHILD ABUSE. 10. Students will be allowed entry to the school only in school uniform. 11. Warning Cards: A system of warning cards has been introduced in the school: a) Gross indiscipline by a student or subsequent act after written warning would entail the signing of a 'Pink Card' by the Principal. The father/parent of the defaulting student will be summoned to the Principal's office and this card will be handed over to him/her. b) A second act of gross indiscipline will result in the issue of a 'Grey Card' with a severe warning. c) A Grey card may be issued as a result of severe and gross indiscipline at the first instance itself. d) Any further act of gross indiscipline by the same student will result in expulsion of the child from NCS, on the authority of the Chairman, NCS (MB).

NES RULES REGARDING DISCIPLINE OF STUDENTS 1. All the Navy Children Schools shall aim at behavioural elegance and the inculcation of discipline in their students. Every parent & student should be apprised of the consequences for indulging in behaviour which is not permissible in the school. 2. Code of conduct for students. The following acts and conduct on the part of students will amount to misconduct: (a) Misbehaviour towards teachers or any other employee of the school. (b) Intentional disturbance of the classes. (c) Continued absence from classes without the permission of the teacher/ Principal. (d) Leaving the school premises or playground during school hours without prior permission of concerned teacher/Principal. (e) Bullying/ Intimidation of others. (f) Eve- teasing / misbehaviour towards girl students. (g) Damaging/disfiguration of school property. (h) Propagating a strike/ disruption of classes. (j) Association with banned organization. (k) Disobeying lawful orders of the teacher/ Principal. (l) Bringing unauthorized people/ articles inside the school. (m)Theft/Pilferage of school/students' property. (n) Involving in acts of moral turpitude. (p) Smoking. (q) Any form of gambling. (r) Use of drugs or intoxicants except on prescription by a registered medical practitioner. (s) Use of violence in any form. (t) Casteism, communalism or practice of untouchability. (u) Carrying any kind of weapon in the school premises. (v) Improper use of computer resources of the school amounting to display or access of unauthorised websites/software portraying indecent / pornographic material. 3. Student Discipline Committee. There shall be a Student Discipline Committee comprising two teachers & a PTA member to investigate, recommend and advise the Principal regarding the penalty for breach of any of the code of conduct by a student. However, the final authority of awarding penalty shall bestow upon Principal of the school, who shall take suitable action depending on the gravity of

offence, repetitive behaviour and recommendations of Student Discipline Committee. 4. Attendance. (a) Regular attendance of the school is most essential. The minimum requirement of attendance in the academic year is 80% for all classes. (b) Leave of absence is given to students on prior application from the parents. In unavoidable circumstances, the absence has to be regularized on the day of rejoining the school with a valid leave note from the parent. (c) All students are expected to attend school within 3 days of the reopening day after any vacation, unless applied for/granted leave for extended period. (d) Students suffering from any of the communicable diseases must rejoin only with a certificate of fitness, after due period of quarantine. (e) Absence without leave for more than seven days is liable to result in the name of the student getting struck off the rolls. Readmission in such cases entails payment of all dues and fresh admission fees. 5. Use of Unfair Means*. All students are expected to maintain the highest standard of honesty in academic and in all other aspects of School life. Use of unfair means in tests or homework is considered as a serious offence. When a student is discovered to have used any dishonest means the following course of action will be initiated: (a) Parents will be notified. (b) The student will be awarded zero marks in the question/paper in which the unfair means were used. (c) For a repeated offence, the student may be expelled from the school or will be liable for such other punishment as may be considered appropriate by the Principal. (d) Where such unfair means/ practices have been found in public examinations like X & XII boards, the rules of punitive actions as promulgated by the respective boards shall apply. 6. Penalties. For the sake of fairness in disciplinary action to be taken by the teacher / Principal for various disciplinary offences, guidelines are laid down in this paragraph. The guidelines indicate the maximum penalty that may be imposed. It does not indicate that punishments listed will automatically be administered. It must be emphasised that action taken by teachers/Principal is intended to remedy problems as well as provide a safe and secure environment for learning. These guidelines are enumerated below:(a) General classroom misconduct, disrupting the activities taking place, excessive noise, excessive talking, distracting action or comments.

1st Offence : Teacher's discretion/refer to Principal/Vice Principal. nd 2 Offence : Suspend from the Class for one day. 3rd Offence : Suspend from the Class for two days. (b) Smoking or using drugs in School premises, possession of cigarettes/drugs or other similar items on person whilst in the School. st 1 Offence: Suspend from the Class for three days & refer the matter to the parents. nd 2 Offence: Suspend from the Class for six days & refer the matter to the parents. 3rd Offence: Initiate expulsion procedure. (c) Refusing the lawful directives of a staff member or Principal. As deemed appropriate by the Principal. (d) Stealing or possessing the property of an individual without express permission of the owner. 1st Offence: Payment of loss. nd 2 Offence: Payment of loss and suspend from Class for three days. rd 3 Offence: Payment of loss and initiation of expulsion procedure. (e) Stealing or possessing the School Property or wilful destruction of school property: st 1 Offence: Payment of loss, parents to be informed & suspension from Class for two days 2ndOffence: Payment of loss and initiation of expulsion procedure. (f) Possessing or use of firecrackers and other incendiary items: 1st Offence: Suspend from Class for three days. Parents to be informed. 2ndOffence: Suspend from Class for six days. Parents to be informed. 3rd Offence: Initiate expulsion procedure. (g) Unacceptable language or name calling towards other students: To be handled by the individual teacher with appropriate reference to Parents/Principal. (h) Verbal assault, obscene and vulgar language, gesture or threat towards any student or employee: Appropriate punishment by the Principal. (j) Fighting, any incitement that results in physical confrontation between students: st 1 Offence: Parents to be informed. 2nd Offence: Suspend from Class for five days. Parents to be informed. rd 3 Offence: Refer the matter to the SMC. Parents to be informed. (k) Possession of weapons, use of any implement as a weapon, causing injury, harm or destruction to another person's property: Parents to be informed. Appropriate action as deemed fit by the Principal under intimation to Chairman SMC.

(l) Absenting from class. st 1 Offence: Refer matter to the parents. 2ndOffence: Refer matter to the parents, record on student's register and extra home work. rd 3 Offence: Refer the matter to the Principal for disciplinary action. (m) Late coming to school. Late coming to school twice within 30 days period will result in the assignment of one detention unless the student brings a note from parent or guardian explaining the reasons for coming late. (n) Habitual late-comers: Appropriate action as deemed necessary by the Principal. (p) Displaying Pornographic Materials. 1st Offence: Parents will be immediately notified. Student will be placed under suspension pending investigation. All actions as per para 8 is to be followed. Student(s), Parent(s) to be counselled by the Principal before reinstating to school. 2nd Offence: Initiate action for expulsion from school.

LIBRARY RULES 1. Students should make it a matter of personal pride to utilise library books with utmost care. 2. The students are not to take any book from the library without proper entry in the issue register. 3. Only one book will be issued at a time for the duration of one week. It may be re-issued for another week. For such a renewal, the book must be produced. 4. The attention of the librarian should be drawn to damage to books. 5. All the books must be returned before the end of each term. A borrower who fails to return a book will have to pay a fine of ` 1/- per day. 6. Students of Std. X & XII will be required to return all library books and obtain clearance certificate from the Librarian before applying for the CBSE Examination hall ticket. 7. Library cards are not transferable. 8. Students are responsible for the safe upkeep of the books. Any damage caused to the books inside or outside the library will entail a levy of charges. 9. Students should not carry Note Books to the Library during their Library period 10. They should not scribble / draw / write on / or deface the Library books in any manner 11. BUS RULES 1. Regular transport arrangements are made by the NT Pool, Mumbai, for Naval children up to Std. XII. Bus Passes and registrations for travel are to be made at NT Pool. 2. All enquiries regarding the Naval School buses to be addressed to the OIC, NT Pool. 3. Students can avail of the school transport. Students using the Yellow School bus are responsible for the maintenance of discipline. The following rules must be observed in the interest of safety: (a) Students using the school bus are to be at the specified bus stop at least 10 minutes before the arrival time of the bus. Students should not visit public places in school uniform. They are responsible to the school authorities for their conduct both in school and outside. Misbehaviour in public places will be dealt with severely. Any child representing the school must be in proper uniform, be appropriately attired for the concerned activity and must be in possession of his/her Identity Card. Turn out and Uniform Code: Neat, freshly washed and ironed uniforms are to be worn by all students. The students must present a neat and tidy appearance with wellgroomed hair. The hair should not touch the shirt collar at the nape of the neck in the case of boys. Girls are not allowed to keep long hair loose. 'Flicks' and 'fringes' are not permitted. Hair longer than shoulder must be plaited. Colouring / streaking of hair, tattoos, ear and/or body piercing will not be allowed. Boys and Girls must necessarily wear their trousers and skirts, respectively, at mid waist level. Wearing of low-slung trousers/skirts will be viewed as a severe violation of the school uniform code and action will be taken against offenders. Students will be allowed entry to the school only in school uniform. Ornaments and jewellery of any kind will not be allowed in the school. Students should not be found in school uniform after school hours, unless the student is representing the school.

GUIDELINES Online classes 1. NCS Mumbai uses Microsoft Teams for online classes. 2. On completion of the admission process the student will be mailed the Microsoft Teams Id and Password on their registered email id furnished at the time of admission. 3. The student has to download Microsoft Team App from Google Play on their device. 4. Once the App has been installed, login using the Microsoft Teams Id and Password that has been emailed to them. 5. It is essential for the students to remember their MS Teams ID and Password. 6. The same login Id and password shall continue as long as the child is registered as a student in NCS Mumbai. 7. The profile picture on Microsoft Teams has to be the initials of the child which is generated automatically by Microsoft Teams. Students should not put up any picture as their profile pic. 8. Login time for any class is 5 minutes before the scheduled time of the class. 9. Attendance is taken every period by the respective subject teachers. 10. It is essential for students to attend online classes from morning assembly to the last period. Uploading in Class Notebook The steps: 1. Open the Class Notebook in Microsoft Teams. 2. Go to the subject in the work is to be uploaded. 3. Select the 'Add Page' option. 4. On the new page, write down the heading on the line given. 5. Click anywhere on the page, the camera icon will visible the bottom of the mobile screen. 6. Click on the camera . 7. The mobile camera will open. 8. Click the photos of the pages to be uploaded. 9. You can click on 'Add page' to take the photo of the next page. 10.Once all the photos are taken, check whether all the photos are taken properly. If the photos are horizontal, use the rotation option at the top of the screen to rotate so the photo is vertical.

Uploading in Assignment / EXAMINATIONS 1. Open the assignment sent through Microsoft Teams. 2. The assignment can be opened from either of the following options: a. From the activity 🔔 icon present. (On the computer/laptop it's on the lefthand side vertical bar. In a mobile it’s at the bottom of the screen.) b. From the assignment option. c. From the subject channel. 3. After the assignment is opened, solve the test paper first. 4. Click on the screen below the test paper. 5. The mobile camera option will be visible at the bottom of the screen. 6. Click on the camera. 7. The mobile camera will open. 8. Click the photos of the pages to be uploaded. 9. You can click on 'Add page' to take the photo of the next page. 10. Once all the photos are taken, check whether all the photos are taken properly. If the photos are horizontal, use the rotation option at the top of the screen to rotate so the photo is vertical. 11. After all the photos are properly clicked, press the 'Done ' option. 12. The photos are uploaded in the assignment below the test paper. 13. Alternately, download a good scanner app from Play Store and use that to take photos in ‘doc’ mode. This converts the pages to pdf which has better clarity. 14. This pdf document must be Inserted as ‘Print Out’ below the Question paper 15. Students must ‘Turn in’ the assignment. It will not be visible to the teacher unless they ‘Turn in’. Obtaining Documents from the Office 1. For CEA claim and Bonafide Certificate a request mail has to be sent to [email protected] clearly indicating the Name, Class, Section of the student and the required Academic Year. 2. For Transfer Certificate please apply through Entab CampusCare Portal. 3. After a week, the required documents may be collected from the school Office on a working day between 0930 – 1230 hours.

CBSE REGISTRATION FOR CLASSES 9TH – 12TH CLASS IX & XI 1. Google form will be sent to the parents by the school. 2.
