Bloomfield Hills Parent Advisory Committee for Special Education (PAC)
A NOTE FROM THE SPECIAL EDUCATION PARENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE (PAC) C0-CHAIRS Dear Families: We know how overwhelming special education services can be. Both of us have gone through different stages with our own children, and want to ensure Bloomfield Hills families have the information they need to feel confident with their own parenting journey. As a part of Michigan education law, Bloomfield Schools has a Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) for Special Education, collaborating with Bloomfield Schools administration and the Oakland Schools intermediate school district. In our district, we are committed to moving special education forward with a strong collaboration between parents, families, and administration. PAC additionally serves families whose children have an active 504 plan. Anyone who has a child that receives educational services, under an IEP or 504, is eligible to be a part of PAC. We have a variety of ways you can be involved and make your voice heard and connect with others. Whether it is attending one of our monthly parent meetings, support group sessions, or a family or social event, we hope to connect with you and work together to move our community forward for our students. Sincerely,
Angela Grontz 248-202-7178 [email protected]
Betsy Pilon 248-703-6914 [email protected]
PAC Guiding Pillars SUPPORT We will, in conjunction with BHSD, provide opportunities for families to receive meaningful peer-to-peer support for their parenting journey.
REPRESENTATION We are the collective voice of families whose students receive special education services, ages 0-26, in the Bloomfield Hills School District, and will ensure we represent in district planning and initiatives, in addition to Oakland Schools.
COLLABORATION We will share resources, parent perspectives on best practices in special education to BHSD administration, and work positively to problem solve and enhance BHSD's special education services collaborating with administration.
ADVOCACY & TRAINING We will share best practices and resources to help families advocate for their children, and have the tools, confidence and support to understand and engage with the special education process.
