Study in Germany

Welcome to iba, Germany’s largest state-recognised private University of Cooperative Education. We offer the ideal combination of theoretical and practical training and thus enable our students to become qualified specialists through comprehensive professional experience.

Dual study degrees in Germany Dual study programmes combine profound academic education at a university with professional training at a partner company. There are different study models, the most widespread being the so-called “block model” which has alternating phases of classroom training and practical instruction at three months intervals. Shorter intervals of alternation, as in iba’s “split-week” model, offer the advantage of continuity and higher involvement into the work process at the partner company since there are no long absences. The students’ continuous presence throughout the course of their studies makes them a reliable team member right from the beginning and ensure that they receive valuable training ‘on the job’.

For me, choosing the ‘splitweek’ model has been the correct decision. I am always involved in current processes and can voice my opinion on different matters. My company can also entrust me with important long-term projects. For several months now, I have even been managing my own project, which is a great challenge but has also had a tremendous learning effect on me. The work experience will be of great value for my future career prospects.“ Sebastian Döll iba student (started winter semester 2015/16)

with both students and cooperating companies. Each week, students spend 20 hours in class and work 16 to 20 hours at the company. Theoretically acquired course content can thus be directly deployed by the students to solve company-related problems. The “split-week” model offers great benefits: In addition to the swift entry into the workforce, it offers continuous and intensive inclusion in the operational activities of your partner company. This ensures a close linking of theory and practice. At iba, we offer the following undergraduate programmes in the dual system: ‘Business

For international students especially, we plan to implement extended (8-semester) versions of two of our undergraduate courses – ‘Business Administration’ and ‘Engineering & Management’ (scheduled for winter semester 2018/19). This would enable international students to obtain proof of German knowledge at C1 level while studying at a German university and to commence studying at a German university while still possessing basic German knowledge.

They are verified on the basis of ‘anabin’, a database published by the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs of The experience that I gained by taking a dual study degree helped me transition into the workforce very easily. In my company, the NH Hotel Group, I got a good look at the many different facets of business administration and I was furthermore able to put my academic knowledge to a test. After three years of employment at the NH Hotel Group, I was very familiar with the specific processes and, after the completion of my studies, I was offered a position as “Business Travel Sales Assistant”. Partner companies

What do students learn in their company for their future professional life? The most distinctive feature is, without a doubt, the generalist education of our students. In the Human Resources (HR) department, for example, our students get to work in all areas related to modern personnel work: management & administration, HR marketing, recruitment, and people & organisational development. This way, we guarantee the best possible training and provide our students the space and opportunity to identify their own personal strengths within the different areas of work. This, in my opinion, is the ideal preparation for the demands and requirements of today’s job market within HR”. Marc Schmidt Expert HR Marketing & Recruiting, Steigenberger Hotels AG

Further information Funding and compensation Depending on the study programme and location, tuition fees vary between 550 and 595 euros and are generally covered by the partner company (international students in the 8-semester programmes: from 3rd semester onwards) so students do not bear the costs of the programme. Furthermore, partner companies generally pay supplementary compensation. The amount is negotiated individually between the student and the partner company. Differences in funding and compensation at study programme Physiotherapy – further information on our website.

Accreditation and state recognition All iba undergraduate programmes and degrees are accredited and fully state-recog nised. iba Bachelor’s degrees are legally equivalent to any other Bachelor’s university degree and qualify for challenging professional jobs as well as Master´s degrees at any German or international college or university.
