Before leaving home

Pre-departure Checklists Ask yourself, and answer, these important questions before you leave for the UK.

General checklist

Passport and Visa checklist

 Have you sent us your flight details?

 Is your passport or ID card valid for the duration of your studies?

 Have you told us what time you will arrive at your accommodation?  Have you given us your emergency contact information?  Do you have the addresses and telephone numbers of your accommodation?  Have you got enough of your prescription medication? Is your medication clearly labelled in English?

 (Students who require a visa to study in the UK only) Have I got my Biometric Residence Permit letter from UK Visas and Immigration, telling me where to collect my BRP when I arrive in the UK?

Under 18s checklist

 Do you have your insurance documents for your travel, medical and personal belongings?

 Have you submitted your Student Parent School Agreement via Classmate? (which is signed by parents)

 (EEA and Swiss nationals) Do you have your EHIC card?

 Have you submitted your IELTS Consent Form via Classmate? (which is signed by parents)

 Have you got your laptop and/or tablet with chargers and UK adaptor?

 If required, have you got a letter of parental consent or details of a guardian?

 Have you packed appropriate clothing for your stay in the UK?

 Have you got your letter of consent to travel, if travelling without your parent or guardian?

Arriving in the UK

Getting to Oxford: By Kings airport transfer service:

From London Gatwick Airport:

From Central London:

  If you have booked an airport transfer through Kings, our representative will meet you at or near the airport information desk. They will be holding a white and purple sign with your name and ‘Kings Oxford’ on it.

  From Gatwick Airport you can easily take The Airline coach from the airport directly to Oxford coach station

  You can get a direct train to Oxford from London Paddington and London Marylebone.

  Direct coaches run to Oxford all day, from approx. 1am in the morning right through to 11:15pm at night

  Trains run regularly all day from 5am until midnight — just ask station staff for a ticket to Oxford and they can point you to the correct platform.

  If for some reason you do not make contact with them at the arrivals area, please ask the airport information staff to put a call out for the Kings representative.   If you still cannot find your driver, please call the Kings Oxford Emergency Number on page 1.   Your driver will drop you off directly at your residence, homestay, or private accommodation. I f you have not yet submitted your flight details, or would like to book a transfer, please contact our admissions team to do this. You need to do this at least one week before you travel.

From London Heathrow Airport:   From Heathrow Airport you can take The Airline coach directly to Oxford coach station.   Direct coaches run to Oxford all day, from approx. 12am in the morning until 11pm at night.   The journey will take you about 1 hour and 30 minutes and should cost £23

Getting to Kings Oxford: The train station is a 15 minute taxi ride or 30 minute bus ride from Kings Oxford (St. Josephs). The coach station is 20 minute taxi ride or 25 minute bus ride from Kings Oxford (St. Josephs). The closest bus stop to Kings Oxford (St. Josephs) is the Original Swan. Buses servicing this stop include 1, 5, 10, 12, U5. The school is only a 3 minute walk from the Original Swan bus stop. You can find more information at stagecoach.com and download the Stagecoach bus app to your phone for up to date information, timetables and to purchase tickets.

Your first day at Kings Oxford

Arrival and induction   Please arrive at school for 8.45am on the first day of your course (Check your confirmation letter for details. Kings English students note that all courses start on Monday or, if that falls on a UK public holiday, the Tuesday following)   You will be able to register, take part in induction activities, and take part in a tour of the school and local area with Kings staff   You will sit an English test before joining your new class. This is nothing to worry about — we just want to assess your English level in more detail to make sure you are assigned to the right class!   You will receive your detailed timetable on the first day so you will know your schedule for the rest of the week   You will also receive your new Classmate login details — allowing you access to lots more interesting information and e-learning resources that will be used alongside your classes   A Kings staff member will take all new students on a walk around the local area during your first week, so you get to know the local environment and feel more at home   You will be able to find detailed information on social and enrichment activities and sign up for these   You will meet other students who are also new to Kings and start making friends straight away!
