How To…

To be able to access on-campus WiFi, login to Canvas, and use on-campus computers, you will need to set up your Saddleback Username and Password.

You will then be prompted to reset your password, by entering your Saddleback Student email and selecting a recovery method.

Your username is the first part of your Saddleback email address. It is usually your first initial, followed by your last name, and a number. For example, if a student is named “Saddleback Bobcats,” their email might be “sbobcats0@ saddleback.edu” and their username would be sbobcats0. To create a password for your username, you will first need to log in to MySite using your Student ID and 4-digit PIN that you created when you first applied to the college. In the upper right-hand corner of your MySite dashboard, you can click on your Profile.

From your profile, you will be able to select “Change PIN/Password.” On the following screens select: • “Change Password” • “I Have Forgotten My Password” After you receive verification via text or email, you’ll be able to create a new password for your student username.

Meeting with a counselor each semester is a requirement of the SC Promise Program and will also help you to stay on track with your general education, major, and/or transfer requirements. • General Counseling: Call 949-582-4972 or visit SSC 167 • Transfer Counseling: Call 949-582-4328 or visit SSC 225B • DSPS Counseling: Call 949-582-4885, email [email protected], or visit SSC 113 • EOPS Counseling: Call 949-582-4620 or visit SSC 126

Get free tutoring

The Learning Resource Center (you can find it on the campus map as “LRC”) is home to the college’s Tutoring Center. Tutoring offered through the LRC is free of charge and available to any student enrolled in classes. To access LRC Tutoring you must register for TU 300, a nocost, zero-unit course every semester. 14

After you have registered for TU 300 you’ll be able to access tutoring through your Canvas account.

Contact professors

Communication with your professors is extremely important. Many of you will be taking classes in fully online or in-person/online hybrid settings so communication will most likely take place over email. Here are a few pointers to make contacting your professors smoother: • Use your college, not personal, email to send messages to your professor. ◦ The “@saddleback.edu” of your email tells your professor that you are a student of the college and not a random person spamming them. • In the subject of your email include class and section ticket information. ◦ This information can be found in your MySite account. It will look like “ACCT 1A Ticket #16960” or “MATH 3B Ticket #23232” ◦ Your professor will most likely be teaching several classes, this information will help them to locate you in their rosters.

• Use the email messaging system that’s available in Canvas. ◦ Canvas is the online learning management system that Saddleback uses for all of its classes. ◦ In Canvas, you can send a message to your professor right from inside your course. Canvas will make sure that your professor knows all the details about your class section and your student account.

Join my Learning Pathway

Learning Pathways help students to explore different majors according to their future career interests. The majors in a pathway lead to careers that share common themes or require similar skills. You can view all the Learning Pathways and the programs in each pathway in the Saddleback College Program Mapper. Once you have identified your Learning Pathway, you should join your pathway’s Canvas GPS.

Find a job

Students at Saddleback College can now use Handshake to find jobs and internships, career events, and connect with employers. Handshake is

the #1 career system used at colleges across the country. If you’re searching for jobs or exploring career pathways, use the single sign-on option to claim your Handshake student account today. With over 1000 opportunities and 700+ employers, Handshake has something for all students. If you have any questions about Handshake or Career Placement, you can reach out to Eric Hilden, the college Career Placement Officer, at ehilden@saddleback. edu.

Make a Student Health & Wellness Center Appointment

The SC Promise Program pays for your Student Health & Wellness Center (SHWC) fee each semester. At the SHWC, students can access medical and mental health services both in-person and through virtual telehealth appointments. The SHWC also provides students with referrals for emergency housing, free fresh groceries, and food resources. To make an in-person appointment you can call 949-582-4606 or visit SSC 177. To make a Tele-Health appointment, you can visit https:// studenthealth.saddleback.edu/. 15

Make a Payment to the Student Payment Office

Promise FAQ

Second–Year Fall

Promise FAQ

SC Promise Program benefits are guaranteed for students for an entire academic year starting in the fall semester. This means you will receive the SC Promise Program financial benefits for both the fall and the spring semesters. You are expected to maintain at least a 2.0 GPA and complete at least 24 units in your first year to be eligible for SC Promise Program benefits for a second year. If you do not meet the 2.0 GPA or 24-unit cutoff, you may be removed from the SC Promise Program. To appeal your removal from the SC Promise Program, you can submit an SC Promise Program Special Request Form.

22

I had an IEP in high school, do my accommodations automatically transfer over to Saddleback?

No, your IEP will not automatically transfer over. You will need to work with the Saddleback Disabled Students Services and Programs (DSPS) office to ensure your accommodations are made for your college classes.

Does the SC Promise Program allow me to take a break between my two years? Yes, if you need to take a “gap semester,” you can submit an SC Promise Program Special Request Form. SC Promise Program benefits are guaranteed for accepted students who maintain eligibility for two consecutive years. Students are allowed to take one gap semester; however, they will not be given an additional semester of benefits after they return to college.

Why does MySite show that I have a balance due to the college?

As long as you maintain eligibility in the program, the SC Promise Program will pay for all of your registration/enrollment fees. Since students can make changes in their schedule through the middle of every semester, the SC Promise Program waits until well after the start of the second 8-week classes to pay off student balances.

I am taking a class at IVC, will the Saddleback College Promise Program cover my units?

Yes, if you are taking just one class at IVC, the SC Promise Program will cover your units and textbooks. You can register for an IVC class just like a Saddleback class on MySite.
