LESSON 1: COURSE OVERVIEW ACTIVITY 1 1. What is the main delivery of this course? This course utilizes a combination of guided study using self-learning modules and co-learning and collaboration through Learning Action Cell (LAC).There is no trainer or instructor to assist the learner participants, so that the lessons in the self-study modules are self-contained and include readings or video tutorials, activities, quizzes and reflection points. 2. How can this course help ensure that you will be able to deliver quality instruction in the “new normal”? The Department of Education utilizes distance learning with different learning modalities as we are experiencing today the CoVID19 pandemic to ensure the continuous delivery of quality education. Through this course, it will prepare teachers with knowledge, skills, and mind sets in the “new normal” as it involves lessons on how to adapt to teaching through alternative delivery modalities based on the capacity of the teachers and learners as well. 3. What are the two support mechanisms that will help you with your learning in this course? The two support mechanisms that will help me with my learning in this course are the following: A. I will be able to know different learning delivery modalities and platforms. It will also enable me to plan for the implementation of the school adopted LDMs, prepare learning materials and resources needed for the LDM and be confident enough in executing lessons in the new LDM. B. The collaboration with my co-teachers and coaches for at various points in the modules, we will need to convene for a LAC session to discuss a particular lesson and/or to collaborate on specific tasks.
ACTIVITY 2 1. How will my personal characteristics and circumstances affect (positively or negatively) my participation in this course? My personal characteristics greatly affect my participation in this course as these are my driving instruments toward my active involvement in every lessons, activities, quizzes and reflection points of this course. My eagerness to learn new things for the effective delivery of instructions in this new normal together with my passion in teaching will make this course an effective one on my part. In addition, If I’m very much interested of what I will be doing, my hundred percent participation was evident. I also consider the
obstacles, hindrances and circumstances in the conduct of this course as motivational tools toward the achievement and goal of DepEd’s mantra “Sulong EduKalidad”. 2. How can I ensure that I am able to sustain my strengths and address the obstacles that will hinder me from completing this course? To ensure that I will be able to sustain my strengths until the completion of this course, I will keep myself updated on the development of our learning sessions, active participation in the conduct of LAC sessions through co-learning and collaborative method, keep on reading the provided self-learning modules, and answering the attached activities that will surely develop my knowledge, skills and abilities as a teacher. On the other hand, we cannot deny the fact, that there are obstacles that may hinder the completion of this course, but with my dedication and willingness to learn new things which are applicable with the distance learning in the new normal, obstacles may turn into blessings as I harvest the fruits of learning at the end of this course.
HABITS (What is it that I repeatedly do that may affect my participations in the course in a positive or negative way?)
OBSTACLES (What will prevent me from participating fully in this course?)
MOTIVATION (What will push me to participate in this course?)
ENVIRONMENT (Where will I accomplish the requirements of this course? Describe this environment.)
Interest is one of my influencing factors to participate in a particular course like this. And of course I am looking for the course content, if it is timely and relevant on my profession, which is teaching.
Teachers were flooded with lots of tasks especially during this pandemic like attending meetings and webinars, crafting of modules and lesson exemplars, adaption of different learning modalities, etc. which resulted to the participants distracted and unfocused.
1. My willingness to learn new things which are vital in my profession. 2. Work with the other members collaboratively. 3. Improve my creative minds in developing or creating of something new. 4. Develop analytical skills through wide decision making.
Upon the completion of this course, learners are the beneficiary of this course as this course will improve teachers’ abilities and skills in adapting effectively the different learning delivery modalities.
Activity 3 Look for a colleague with whom you would like to discuss your answers and reflections with to the questions in Activities 1 and 2.
Reflections: I understand that this LDM course will help us, “teachers” in improving ourselves with the knowledge and skills needed to meet the instructional needs of the students in this “new normal” through distance learning. I realize that we have to prove that learning is continuous despite the global pandemic we are experiencing today. The Department of Education doing their very best with the help of all instructional leaders, instructors, and community to ensure learning continuity through different delivery learning modalities.
LESSON 2: ORGANIZING YOUR LEARNING ACTION CELL (LAC) ACTIVITY 1 Begin by refreshing your memory on the Learning Action Cell. Read DepEd Order No. 35 s. 2016 titled “The Learning Action Cell as the K to 12 Basic Education Program School-Based Continuing Professional Development Strategy for the Improvement of Teaching and Learning.” 1. Reflect on the objectives for conducting LAC sessions as listed in DO 35, s. 2016. Rank the following objectives from easiest to the most difficult to achieve: 1. To improve the teaching-learning process to improve learning among students 2. To nurture successful teachers 3. To enable teachers to support each other to continuously improve their content and pedagogical knowledge, practice, skills, and attitudes 4. To foster a professional collaborative spirit among School Heads, teachers, and the community as a whole
Therefore, teachers should apply appropriate teaching strategies that best suit specific objectives and level exit outcomes to facilitate the process of knowledge transmission. Many teaching practitioners widely applied teacher –centered to impact knowledge to learner’s comparative to studentcentered.
2. What are the top three challenges to having a successful LAC? List down and elaborate? 1. Scheduling
- Time constraints - Overlap with teacher’s other activities - With busy schedule - Coincide with the submission of reports 2. Communication-Barrier (during these times of pandemic) - Stressful environment - Unavailability and unstable internet access 3. LAC Activities - Topics are not universal, other teachers can’t apply topics. - Common and familiar content
