Biodegradable and Non-Biodegradable Materials Computer Integrated Project

Presented by Roll no. 1 to 5

Biodegradable and Non-Biodegradable Materials Definition : Such substances which can be easily broken down by the action of bacteria are named as biodegradable substances. Other substances or material like plastics, metallic cans and pesticides which cannot be broken down easily by biological processes are named as non-biodegradable substances.

Examples of biodegradable materials Biodegradable materials1.Food waste 2.Paper waste 3.Human waste 4.manure 5.sewage 6.Sewage sludge 7.Hospital waste 8.Slaughterhouse waste 9.Dead animals 10.Dead plants. Anything which is organic or can be broken down into CO2 and methane is called biodegradable waste.

Examples of Non-biodegradable materials NON-BIODEGRADABLE WASTES1.Glass 2.e-waste 3.Plastic 4.Metallic wastes 5.Nuclear waste 6.synthetic fibres 7.ball point pen refills 8.cans 9.artificial rubber 10.Artificial/man made polymers. Non-Biodegradable wastes are those that cannot break down or degrade for many years. These are waste that cannot change into manure and they pile up causing pollution. Burning of these fuels causes more pollution in the environment. The non-biodegradable wastes become useful when they can be recycled.

Difference between biodegradable and non-biodegradable materials 1. Biodegradable are the one which gets decomposed within very short period. While non biodegradable take longer time. 2. Biodegradable wastes are non pollutants while non biodegradable are pollutants. 3. Biodegradable ones are degraded by living organisms while non biodegradable have no part with living organisms. 4. Biodegradable wastes can be disposed easily but non ones cannot. 5. Biodegradable are organic ones whereas the non ones are artificial mostly polymers 6. Biodegradable can act as soil manures while non ones cannot. biodegradable example - fruits, vegetables, plants, animals, etc.. non biodegradable example - plastics, glasses, etc

Management of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste In

India, the environmental problems are growing rapidly. Plastic waste and household waste are a major source of pollution. In our day to day life, plastics become more unpreventable. It generates around 0.2 to 0.3 million tons of waste every day. Waste is an unwanted material that has no value in normal use. The management of wastes assumes importance because of environmental hazards. According to UNICEF, solid waste can be classified into biodegradable and non-bio degradable waste. Sources of waste can be mainly classified into four types: Industrial, Commercial, Domestic, and Agricultural waste Therefore, the proper disposal of wastes has to be done. This is not only the responsibility of the Government, and each can contribute. The three Rs- Recycle, Reuse, and Reduce are the simplest steps that can take by each person. This can save energy and other resources as well. Another step is to separate biodegradable waste from non-biodegradable waste at home and disposes of them separately. But most of them are not aware of the proper segregation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste.0.
