IN THE BEGINNING... Dear Partner, Recently I have observed some things in the Body of Christ that led me to write about the topic of this month’s letter…the supreme importance of the Word of God in the life of every believer. Without going into a lot of detail, the Lord opened my eyes to the reality that many in today’s congregations don’t study their Bibles or even have a Bible app on their cell phones. I was concerned, even a little angry. I was not angry at the people; I was angry at the devil and how he was subtly attempting to weaken the Body of Christ. As children of God, our destinies and dominion are anchored in the Word of God, and satan knows that “No Word, No Faith—No Faith, No Power.” With no power, we are completely helpless against satan’s assaults and we become victims in his demon-controlled system. Hear what God spoke to His people concerning His commandments (His Word) as they were coming out of Egypt: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates. Deuteronomy 6:7–9 Today, in the New Testament, Paul writes to the Church, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15). What I’m saying is that having a time of daily devotion or going out to church service on Sunday morning should not be seen as a problem but a privilege. In today’s world of sophisticated technology and scientific breakthroughs, it’s sometimes easy to forget that everything in this natural realm, including this planet, started with one thing—the Word of God. The Word of God made it, and the Word of God is needed to fix it, which places the Body of Christ squarely in control of this planet. Nothing should go on without our knowledge or consent. One man said, “Every other book informs, but only the Bible transforms.” God’s Word is unstoppable and communicates God’s power, and every scripture has the power within it to bring itself to pass. Let’s examine some of the powerful advantages we receive from God’s Word. Bill Winston Ministries | Post Office Box 947 | Oak Park, IL 60303 | (708) 697-5100 | www.billwinston.org
The Word Has Creative Power The apostle John shares a powerful truth in the book of John: “In the beginning was the one who is called the Word. The Word was with God and was truly God. From the beginning the Word was with God. And with this Word, God created all things. Nothing was made without the Word...” (John 1:1–3 CEV). Then verse 14 says, “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” Jesus was the Word made flesh. When we speak or declare the Word of God by faith, it has the same creative power to “be made flesh” and bring itself to pass as it did “in the beginning.” (See Numbers 23:19.)
The Word Has Divine Light “The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple” (Psalm 119:130). “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” (Psalm 119:105). The more of God’s Word you receive and believe, the more light you have to see into what God is really saying and has prepared for us. The prophet prayed, “Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw….” (2 Kings 6:17). Notice, without light, he only saw the problem. When light came in, he could see “the promise”...what God had prepared for him “from the foundation of the world” (Revelation 13:8). And here’s the best part...what you see (spiritually) is what God transfers to you. You can say it this way, when light (revelation) comes, your struggles with darkness end. As one man of God said, “There is no day that light will struggle with darkness. Light masters darkness any day, anytime, anywhere.” If you are not prospering, the reason for your stagnation is not the weight or strength of your opposition but the inadequacy of your revelation (light). I pray that from this day “light be” in every area of your life, in Jesus’ Name!
The Word is Spiritual Seed “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever” (1 Peter 1:23). When our ministry was believing for a ministry airplane, a dear friend from Africa came to our church to speak. In the middle of his message he turned to me and said, “Dr. Winston, your airplane is in Ecclesiastes, chapter 10.” Immediately, I began to hunt for it, and with the assistance of the Holy Spirit, I found it. It was in Ecclesiastes 10:20, “… for a bird of the air shall carry the voice.” I took that word as “seed” and, by speaking it, planted it into the soil of my heart. In due time, it manifested a jet airplane which has been a tool from the Lord that has enabled our ministry to take the gospel to the world. “The Word Became Flesh!” Every scripture in the Bible carries the very life and nature of God. You could say they are “Spirit-breathed and Spirit-backed”! The more scriptures you receive Page 2
into your spirit, the more of God’s nature you will possess and manifest. As one prophet said, “When you apply yourself to any scripture, it creates a harvest of a guaranteed future.” The parable of the sower in Mark, chapter 4, confirms this, The sower soweth the word…And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground; and should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how. For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear. But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come. But when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh.... Verses 14, 26–29, 32
Remember, the Word of God is the “seed” of “whatever we need.” God said it and provided it for us before the foundation of the world. Here are some other benefits that we receive from the Bible: God’s Word Imparts God’s Wisdom. “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus” (2 Timothy 3:15). “Thou through thy commandments (Word) hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me. I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation” (Psalm 119:98–99). God’s Word Brings God’s Peace. “Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them” (Psalm 119:165). “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee” (Isaiah 26:3). God’s Word Brings God’s Joy. “Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart…” (Jeremiah 15:16). “Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory” (1 Peter 1:8). Jesus was the Word. God’s Word Brings Divine Health and Deliverance. “He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions” (Psalm 107:20). “My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh” (Proverbs 4:20–22). God’s Word Brings Sanctification and Cleansing. “That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word” (Ephesians 5:26). Page 3
“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth” (John 17:17).
This last benefit is very important because sanctification for the believer is not a one-time event. It is an ongoing process which began when we received Jesus as our Lord and Savior and continues as long as we are on this earth. Just as we go from “faith to faith,” we also go from one level of sanctification to another. Hearing and doing the Word of God is what the Holy Spirit uses to cleanse and sanctify us. (See Ephesians 5:26.) Partner, the Bible is our constitution, our operations manual, and a supernatural playbook for success and for taking dominion wherever we are deployed by God. It’s what determines our final position and status in life. God’s Word is the final authority in every circumstance that we face…in our finances, our health, our marriages and families, and our jobs, ministries and businesses. The Word will fix it. Guaranteed! So, if you’ve grown lukewarm in reading your Bible and spending time with God in His Word, make a decision right now to stir yourself up again. Meditate the benefits of God’s Word that are listed in this letter until you become so addicted to the Word that you can’t go one day without it—because the truth is, you really can’t! Again, it is not in the volume of the scriptures that you read or memorize that brings blessings or delivers the victory, but in the quality of revelation or light you receive. As you sow your seed this month, decide from this day that you are going to put God’s Word first place in every circumstance in which you find yourself. That’s what Jesus did when He boldly said, “it is written.” Seek His wisdom and counsel, and expect Him to bring it to pass. That’s what Mary did when the angel Gabriel told her that she was going to give birth to the Son of God...she said, “be it unto me according to thy word.” During this wonderful season of Thanksgiving, Veronica and I are so thankful for YOU, our partner. We pray, in Jesus’ Name, that you will finish 2018 stronger in the Word and in faith than you have ever been, and that you will see the desires of your heart manifest completely before this year is out. We love you. Until next time, keep walking by faith! Your Partner and Friend,
William S. Winston

“When we speak or declare the Word of God by faith, it has the creative power to ‘be made flesh’ and bring itself to pass.”
Words are powerful, more powerful than you may realize. The words of God created the heavens and the universe. And since we are made in the image of God, it is your words that create the circumstances and accomplishments in your life. In Word of the Kingdom, Dr. Bill Winston shows you how to use the words of the kingdom of God to radically transform everything in your life that is out of line with the declarations and promises of God.
