RPO Consultancy Sdn. Bhd. (RPOC) Radiation Safety and Security Courses Course Objective Radiation Protection Officer (RPO) or Supervisor (RPS) has to attend RPO course and to pass the RPO examination conducted by AELB (Atomic Energy Licensing Board) in order to qualify as RPO/RPS. In addition, RPO, RPS and radiation protection consultants (RPC) need to be re-certified by the AELB after their certifications expired. RPO/ RPS/RPC is required to attend AELB approved Radiation Safety Refresher or Awareness course to update their knowledge and competency to comply with the AELB’s CEP (Continuous Education Program) objectives. General radiation workers (such as operators and maintenance staff) have to be trained in radiation safety by attending Radiation Safety Awareness/ Refresher Course in order to be certified by AELB as radiation workers. They have to be retrained at least once every three years after that. The objective of RPOC is to provide courses to meet the needs of AELB licensees to comply with AELB requirements.
Methodology Lecture with PowerPoint presentation, whiteboard, flipchart, video and discussion.
Who Should Attend Radiation protection officer (RPO), radiation protection supervisor (RPS), radiation protection consultant (RPC), general radiation workers (operators and maintenance staff) and Person Responsible for License (OBTL).
Course Description RS101 Radiation Safety for Workers (1 day, 8 CEP Points) Comprehensive coverage of: Characteristics of ionising radiations, radiation quantities and units, sources of ionising radiations, health effects of ionising radiations, comparison of risks, radiation protection principles and radiation monitoring. RS102 Radiation Safety Awareness Course (1 day, 8 CEP Points) Topics covered: Introduction to Ionising Radiations, Radiation Quantities and Units, Sources of Ionising Radiations, Biological Effects of Ionising Radiation, Radiation Protection Principles, Radiation Monitoring, Controlling Safe Use of Atomic Energy, Categorization and Security of Radioactive Sources, Radiation Safety and Emergency Procedures. RS201 Radiation Safety Refresher Course (2 days, 15 CEP Points) This course mainly caters for RPO/RPS/RPC to gather necessary CEP points for their re-certification by AELB. (max. CEP points may be used for certification is 15 per course). The course covers the followings topics: Ionising radiations, biological effects, radiation protection & monitoring, Atomic Energy Act and Regulations, Categorization and Security of Radioactive Sources, Applications of Ionising radiations and Safety, Radiation Safety and Emergency Procedures for Nuclear Gauges, Irradiating Apparatus and NORM/TENORM activities. RS202 Radiation Safety Practices for RPO (2 days, 15 CEP Points) This course mainly caters for RPO/RPS/RPC to gather necessary CEP points for their re-certification by AELB. RPO/RPS/RPC will find the course very useful in their daily practices. Topics covered: Ionising radiations, biological effects, radiation protection & monitoring, preparation of Radiation Protection Program, Emergency Plan & Security Plan, Management of Worker Certification, Management of AELB Class C and Class A licenses, Management of Changes Affecting AELB License, Manage AELB Approvals and Inspections. Participants are encouraged to bring along their laptop, DigiCert login details and WiFi connection to have hands-on experience with AELB eLesen/eSPP system. RS301 Radiation Protection Officer (I3) Course (9 days, 15 CEP Points) This course is intended for candidates who wish to take the AELB RPO Examination (Industry, Level 3) to qualify as RPO (Radiation Protection Officer) or RPS (Radiation Protection Supervisor). RPS provides support to RPO and may be assigned as RPO in the absence of RPO. Topics covered: Introduction to ionizing radiation (IR), biological effects of IR, IR protection, IR monitoring, transportation of radioactive materials (RAM), radioactive waste management, radiation safety management, categorization & security of radioactive sources (RS), radiation safety and emergency procedures in non-medical industries, etc.
RS302 Radiation Safety and Emergency Procedure (3 days, 15 CEP points) RPO/RPS/RPC attending RS 302 will obtain 15 CEP points for 1-year re-certification by AELB. This course is also for current RPO/RPS who wants to add Industry, Level 3 certification to their current certification by taking the “Tahap” paper of RPO Examination (Industry, Level 3). For example, RPO certified for industrial radigraphy (Industry, Level 2) may add Industry, Level 3 (gauges, NORM/TENORM and sales activities) certification to his/her current certification.
