Sponsor of the Month: GECU Sponsor of the month goes to GECU. GECU is a huge supporter of UTEP Athletics and the UTEP Miners. This month GECU took advantage of utilizing their GECU Terrace at the Sun Bowl Stadium as a new VITA site stopping point for the El Paso community to drop off their tax returns. GECU connected with VITA tax assist, a free tax filing program that is dedicated to help families file their taxes free of charge. Due to COVID-19 protocols, GECU took the initiative to create QR codes that will link each individual with their intake form when completed at freetaxelpaso.org. However, taxpayers who don’t have access to fill out the forms online, a greeter at each drop off site will give out a form for the individual to fill out.

GECU: GAME SPONSOR GECU was the game sponsor for the February 12th and 13th UTEP men’s home basketball games, where UTEP took on the FIU panthers. GECU wanted to give the fans a great and warm game day experience by providing five hundred hot chocolates each home game day. GECU also set up tables on the East and West concourse at the Don Haskins to provide UTEP fans with free GECU branded giveaway items. The GECU team passed out string backpacks during Friday’s game and GECU branded water bottles for Saturday’s game. Their hot chocolate initiative and giveaway items were a big hit!

UTEP Athletics at a Glance The UTEP Athletics team has been celebrating women’s basketball head coach, Kevin Baker on a huge milestone victory! Kevin Baker received his 400th career win on February 13th when the UTEP women’s basketball team took on the FIU lady panthers at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center in Miami with a score 73-57. This also marks the lady Miners ninth game winning streak in the conference! This nine winning streak is tied for the fourth longest streak in the program history and the longest since the 2013-14 season.
