From the Marketing & Brand Head
At the beginning of 2020, we were congratulating ourselves on completing 36000+ events in the past year – a huge achievement with many big-ticket weddings in our kitty. With a four-fold growth trajectory in 2019, our presence amplified to over 50 cities in the country. So, while we patted our backs and marched on with new vigour with plans to achieve many more feathers to add to our hat, mother nature threw us a curveball! The Coronavirus pandemic was and is a shocker. Like everyone else across the world, it has pushed us all to stay inside our home and maintain social distancing. It comes as no surprise that the virus that has affected 2.9 million lives globally has put an end to all gatherings - big or small weddings and events. Yes, our industries have been struck, especially the weddings industry and the hospitality industry. At one point in time, we were struggling to accommodate dates and venues for the many bookings rushing in for spring-summer weddings; now we are cajoling all to stay put, follow safety norms and reschedule their events for a later date in the year. Yes, we have had to shift gears too; to rethink our plans for the year and to revamp our strategy along with all the vendors, staff and customers we work closely with. It is evident that right now, the situation is grim, and the idea of planning a wedding seems far-fetched. But there is hope. We already see couples tying the knot in smaller, intimate ceremonies adhering to the norms of social distancing. Some are even tying the knot online via Google Hangouts or Zoom. Some even planning surprise virtual sangeet ceremonies for couples! Talk about innovation! While it may seem prudent to many to delay their nuptials but these determined few are paving the path for new-age weddings! And such enthusiasm to celebrate no matter what and from no matter where gives us a renewed hope of things getting back to normal sooner than later. We present you our 2nd edition of The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in, a comprehensive guide to complete wedding planning. Browse and read the many stories of hope and triumph across the wedding industry, plan, take notes and most importantly, get ready for a great winter wedding season 2020! Best,

A wedding lehenga or a bridal saree is not just a piece of fabric but a whole new emotion. Gone are the days when examining each saree, salwar-suit, lehenga or a piece of jewellery for a young girl’s wedding had all the women in the family breaking into sobs and sniffles. Yes, the wedding planning itself sets in motion many overwhelming experiences, launching one-two many emotional responses even today. The wedding lehenga, a vital part of a young bride-to-be’s wedding trousseau is like the cherry on top. It evokes all kinds of feeling. And why not? After all, the main piece of bridal couture needs a lot of planning with many details to consider. Feels like a lot to take in, right? We agree. But instead of feeling overwhelmed, let’s deconstruct it! Bridal couture has come of age. It has evolved from ‘within-the-box’ typical ideas to unique, quirky and fun elements. It’s no longer just a trip to the local market or visiting Chandni Chowk or the local darzi. From one-time wear outfits (who wants to upstage another bride at their wedding, ha?) to versatile, lightweight and wearable ones, in the bright dawn of a new decade (and era), bridal fashion is making waves. 12 I The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in

Understanding the Millennial Bride Brides are no longer shy; they aren’t seeking any validation and are under no peer pressure. They are sharp, smart and bold. They do their
research, are knowledgeable and know what they want. Still, the love for tradition and the yearning to try something ‘hatke’ or out-of-the-box is strong. Surprisingly, comfort is the primary concern as brides want to feel light and carefree at their wedding and not bogged down with heavy jewellery or heavily embroidered outfits. The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in I 13
“Such is the change in the millennial bride-tobe’s personality that the fashion industry is having to constantly reinvent itself to make clothes that are sustainable, versatile, disruptive, innovative, lightweight and comfortable,” says bespoke bridal wear designer Nivedita Saboo who caters creme-dela audience in Mumbai. Adding their two-bits to a millennial bride’s personality, Shyamal and Bhumika, the ace designer duo of the eponymous label, say, “Initially, when we used to meet brides 15 years back, there were a lot
14 I The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in
of specific things that the brides wanted to discuss. The millennial brides are so well researched, they come with the picture of the Shyamal & Bhumika outfits they like along with custom specifications to suit their needs.” On this note, Mumbai-based, Bollywood’s darling designer, Arpita Mehta adds, “I feel the millennial brides are more relaxed, more aware of their personal choices. Brides these days are ready to experiment, which is refreshing for the designers as well.”
Decoding the 2020 Colour Wheel It is a fact, a millennial bride is no longer bound by tradition to pick only reds, maroons or deep pinks for their big day. Today, bridal wear offers a broad spectrum of colours. If you were to spend some time stalking Instagram profiles of designers, actorsactresses and influencers, you would see many brides opting for unusual shades. With ‘unique’ being the operating word, brides are open to experiments. So, don’t be surprised if you spot a bride in apple greens or neon blues! Before we let our minds wander to rainbow land, let’s look at what the experts have in mind when it comes to trending colours. We can all safely agree that pastel shades have been in vogue for a while now. Yet, some brides still opt for the traditional reds and emeralds. According to designer duo Shyamal and Bhumika, “This year, we will see an amazing mix of unusual vintage and jewel colours such as ink blues, mint, ochre, salmon, and storm grey with crimson, sapphire, black, even ivory and gold, with exquisite embroidery designed using modern nuances of multi-coloured

overlapping sequins and resham threads.” On a different note, designer Nivedita Saboo says, “Pastels have become frosty this year with beautiful hues of frosty pink, icy blue, silvery grey, gunmetal, dusty purple, frosty cocoa and icicle ivory are the colours we
are looking forward to doing this summer. Emerald green, charcoal grey, Burgundy, Navy blue are as pretty and bold for the evening.” “I think the colour mint will be an unusual twist to the bridal wear as it can be worn in any outfit for both day and evening,” says Arpita Mehta. The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in I 15
Having nailed the 2020 bridal wear colours, we have won half the battle. The next part is equally important, which is to understand the silhouettes. While classic silhouettes will never go out of fashion, adding interesting twists will make the outfit unique. Brides can opt for structure with flowy fabrics and cascades. For the pre-wedding functions, brides can pick from beautiful cuts and 16 I The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in
tailored gowns with trails, slimfit trousers with corsets. Heavily embroidered jackets with lehengas or deconstructed skirts with corsets that can be used in different ways, detachable drapes, changeable saree drapes and versatile silhouettes, etc., is what Ms Saboo would recommend brides to consider this year. Additionally, brides should consider “lehengas with sweeping hems are
a rage! Peplum tops on gowns and lehengas for a modern makeover. The asymmetrical and ruffled flare lehengas with a wide shoulder and jacket blouses and constructed draped gowns are in trend for the pre-wedding functions. Signature ruffle details in lehenga hems and saree hems bring a delicate touch to the ensembles,” say Shyamal and Bhumika.
Traversing the Silk Route An important point to note when it comes to finalising the bridal dress code is getting the fabric right. You would say it is a no-brainer and that a bride should opt for the best – silk or the many varieties of silk. While this is true, there is more. Brides today can further experiment by opting for light fabrics like translucent French chiffon, flowy georgette, sheer silk organza, soft cotton, textured satins, and enigmatic tulle. These will help a bride feel light and comfortable through her wedding festivities. For the environmentally-conscious brides, natural and biodegradable fabrics like airy silks that are breathable can be used.

Accessories, Accessories and Accessories! Up until recently, as the big day neared, mothers, grandmothers, aunties and more get ready to empty the family pitara to ensure the bride is loaded with family heirlooms. Yes, the poor girl could very well advertise for gold 18 I The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in
or diamond jewellery. But brides today know what and how they want to wear in terms of wedding jewellery. Yes, even family heirlooms can be customised. According to Nivedita Saboo, minimal is the way to go. Comfort and lightness of being are of utmost importance for every bride and groom. Innovative and creative play of fabrics and fabric textures, precision in cuts and keeping the right volume in the garment would help create an opulent outfit that is
comfortable and light in weight. “opt for jewellery that is impactful but minimalistic. Keep hair and makeup light and airy.” Veils scattered with pearls is a trend to look out for in 2020. On the other hand, Ms Mehta says, “A beautiful embroidered jacket can be worn with Indian, western or even a short dress. Watches are the go-to accessory as it is versatile. Vintage jewellery from their mother or grandmother gives a sentimental touch to the bride’s attire on her big day.”
Trousseau Tips for 2020 Brides Arpita Mehta says: Include a beautiful Indian handcrafted sari; be it Kashmiri, Patan Patola, a Benarasi or a Kanjivaram depending on what the bride prefers Shyamal and Bhumika say: A stylish neutral saree and blouse, wear to anywhere lehenga, a pair of comfortable embroidered wedges, a crop sherwani that can be paired with denim or shararas, traditional polki jewellery for last-minute accessorizing, embroidered tulle capes to dress up a simple maxi and a beautiful clutch to carry the essentials Nivedita Saboo says: Invest in a straight fit metallic gown, a pair of shimmery nude platform heels, beautiful embellished jacket to be worn with lehenga, pants, corset, saree or an Anarkali. Spend money on luxe juttis. Definitely include a new-age classic saree, jewelled bags and watches And last but not least, shining confidence! The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in I 19

In Sickness and in Health: Three Brides who Beat COVID-19 to Tie the Knot Written By Nikita Banerjee Bhagat
The month of March is a month of change; winter thaws to spring, awaiting the warmth of summer, flowers bloom, a new harvest season begins. It is also a crucial month for weddings as it’s just right; not too cold or too hot but perfect for a beach wedding or outdoor lawn parties. March 2020 was supposed to be all of this and more but instead of spring in the air, this year Coronavirus took over! This worldwide COVID-19 pandemic called for a global lockdown. Simply put, it means that the spring-summer wedding season is a no-go!
While the world over, people adjusted with quarantine and lockdowns, many brides and grooms had their hopes dashed as their dream wedding ceremonies that had taken months to plan had to be cancelled. We spoke to three brides who faced a similar problem; two brides who had to cancel their big fat weddings and settle for smaller intimate settings. And the third one had half a marriage, i.e., her mehendi, engagement and sangeet ceremony took place just before Coronavirus shut down the world.

Pallabi & Francesco This Indian-Italian couple had planned a grand wedding in a palace in Bikaner, Rajasthan on 8th March 2020. But Coronavirus had other plans… “We had a 14-month engagement period. Long, right?! But it was going to be worth the wait because we were planning this beautiful wedding where we had guests from India, Italy, Peru, USA and all over the globe. Months of planning,” says Pallabi.
Unfortunately, the virus took over the world at the same time. But the couple thought they had a plan and so, they flew to India a week earlier to sought things out and make the most of the situation. “Five days before our wedding it was announced that no Italian Passport holders would be allowed to enter India which meant that Francesco’s parents and his brother wouldn’t be able to come either,” says Pallabi. Yet, the couple decided to carry on. They waited The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in I 21

hoping things would change, but just a day later, while Pallabi awaited the final delivery of her bridal lehenga, they received more bad news. “We received information from our hotel that the local officials have declared that anybody who is an Italian Passport holder would not be able to check-in into any hotel. So basically, I had NO GROOM!” says Pallabi. This was the last straw, and the wedding had to be cancelled. To get away from all the chaos, they flew to Thailand. As they arrived at their hotel, the first thing

they noticed was a wedding décor set up for a wedding on the same evening. And this was just the silver lining the couple needed! “As I said, we don’t know how to give up, but this time, of course, we didn’t even tell our parents we were considering something as insane as this. So, what started as a “Sorry Sir we are fully booked for tomorrow evening” soon turned into a YES! I mean, who can say no to two faces with swollen eyes and their story of the cancelled Dream Wedding in India!” And folks, that’s how these two tied the knot on 8.03.2020!
They spent the entire morning on a serene beach as the wedding took place in the afternoon. And no, there were not alone when they said ‘I dos’! “Our friends Luca and Livia were already backpacking in Thailand but little did we know that they would travel 10 hours by road to reach us for our wedding. Little did we know that Luca would marry us
and Livia would walk me down the aisle. And so, just like that, we became Mr. & Mrs Alivia!” For her beach wedding, Pallabi wore a beautiful sage green organza saree by Sabyasachi and Francesco wore a sherwani from Manyavar. It was a simple, sweet and an extraordinary ceremony.
Deepika & Chitang
Bride Deepika Ghose and Groom Chitang had planned a destination wedding in Phuket, Thailand for 7th and 8th of March 2020. “I had dreamed and planned with every detail – it was my wedding after all, and like most girls, I had been planning it since before I can even remember,” says Deepika. The couple had waited for a long time, six and a half years to be precise when it came to finalising their wedding day. They had braved many delays and changes and had finally managed to work out the dates that suited both families. “We even had a traditional Gujarati card writing
ceremony a month before the wedding dates so we couldn’t change the dates!” adds Deepika. But the Coronavirus happened, and things started to fall apart… “I was still hopeful that the situation would die down, and we would still be able to have our dream destination beach wedding. We had paid for everything in advance - hotels, vendors, Thailand based planners, all our guests had booked flights etc...” But as the pandemic worsened, they started worrying and were torn between cancelling, postponing and relocating the wedding. Unfortunately, the situation became such that their grandparents were asked not to travel as their age was a risk factor. And this decision prompted them to have a small The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in I 23
intimate ceremony in Mumbai itself, at Deepika’s Nani’s house with their immediate family present. So, with their grandparents, parents and real siblings, they tied the knot in a simple ceremony. “It was beautiful and meaningful and special - I have practically grown up in that apartment, and it is also where my parents got married, so it was auspicious for many reasons.,” says Deepika. The couple, albeit happy with their situation, did want to celebrate with their friends and extended family, but that would be a story for another day. Just ten days before their actual wedding date, they had to cancel all their bookings in Phuket as the situation had gone from bad to worse. So, they decided to have smaller functions in Bangalore set on 7th & 8th of March. Lucky for them India was not in complete lockdown yet. Deepika and Chitang then planned an entire wedding from décor to venue to everything else in 10 days! Of course, there were heartbreaks as many Image source: WeddingNama
guests couldn’t make it and they couldn’t replicate a beach wedding, so they had to make do with what was available to them. “We learned to let go of the small things and minute details that I was once so determined to perfect for the occasion. We consciously focused on the meaning behind the wedding and the celebration and what’s important. Our guests were so helpful, supportive and understanding every step of the way and we felt so blessed and so grateful that we were able to still have a celebration as well as our meaningful wedding. We learned how to approach the situation with grace instead of regret, and we were all happy with the way (most) of it went off.” 24 I The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in

Simran & Ruchit The months of January and February are the best months to get married in Mumbai. Yeah, as the island city doesn’t have a winter season, these months are comparatively cooler, and there is certain spring in one’s step we think! Bride Simran and groom Ruchit had elaborate wedding plans between January and February 2020. This good-looking pair met through mutual friends and one month into the relationship, Simran knew he was the one for her! They had planned five events – two in Mumbai and three events over a three-day cruise in Singapore.
Their cruise was to bring together 300-400 guests and loved ones from across the world, and it was to be one big party! Sounds exciting, right? Yes, it was until COVID-19 happened. Their Sangeet, the wedding and reception took place on 29th & 30th of January 2020. These functions happened without any glitch. For the Sangeet, Simran looked stunning in a Manish Malhotra ensemble – a heavily embroidered skirt with a ruffled hem and a ruffled dupatta draped on the side with a sexy blouse. The groom matched her in a dapper outfit by Raghavendra Rathore. For the wedding and reception, she wore a gorgeous Anushree Reddy

lehenga, and the groom wore an outfit by designer Sonam Luthria. All was going well until the coronavirus spread rapidly across the world. Soon, it was termed as a Pandemic by WHO. So, the couple had to re-think their cruise trip. “There was no lockdown imposed then, but many cases were being reported from different parts of the world. We were going to have so many guests over from different locations. We did not want to risk it as if something untoward happened then the entire crowd would be in danger. So, we decided to postpone it indefinitely… for now!” says Simran. So, what’s in store next? “We are going to continue it as is! And mostly make it our 1st-anniversary celebration!” adds Simran. 26 I The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in

Your Search for the Perfect Gown Ends at Bride & Beautiful The perfect gown, unlike the perfect man, is no myth! Therefore, to-be-brides need not settle for a wedding gown that isn’t the stuff of their dreams! For brides to never experience disappointments or hassles with their dream wedding gown, two people, partners in life and crime, Peter and Kimi Devadas, are your knight’s designers in shining armour! The duo came together to start Bride & Beautiful with a vision to create that perfect fairy tale moment that every bride dreams of. Incidentally, the idea behind the label struck the couple when they were planning their own wedding! “The idea of Bride & beautiful started with the search for my wedding gown. In our search, we found that there was a huge gap in the market where gowns were mainly imported or were not up to the mark at least in comparison to gowns available in the west. Given Peter’s experience with garment manufacturing and export, we decided to make a few prototypes to see what we could achieve. It wasn’t long before we realised that this was a potential business opportunity and that there was the birth of the brand,” says Kimi. The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in I 27
B & B aims to be able to add that unique charm and magic to a bride or a special bridesmaid moment. The creation of each gown is a unique process; from getting to know the bride to understand her idea of the gown and then bringing it to life is always beautiful in every aspect. As we know how important it is to get the gown right, we asked the Kimi and Peter Devadas to share some insights for to-be-brides before they finalise their wedding ensemble: Q. Let’s talk about the latest trends in wedding gowns? Kimi: Given the changes our world is experiencing now; we feel that blending of different dimensions and new realities would be the essence that trends would mould out of this coming season. Ours to be specific would be translated into an illusion of layers, tonal/multi hue effects and sheer fabrics, with a design aesthetic of the gradient, semi-structured and moderate flares would be something to lookout for. Q. Before setting out to select a gown, what are the things a bride should consider? Kimi: The few things that we always like to tell our brides to keep in mind when trying to decide on a gown with emphasis on decisions on fits & trails, colours and necklines and a cost attached to it are 1. Location: on whether the occasion in outdoor or indoor? 2. Time factor: Day or night? 3. Theme: Is there a theme for the décor? 4. Budget: everything you want has a cost attached to it, and there has to be a balance. Q. How to customise wedding gowns? Tips and tricks. Kimi: Our advice on tips for picking out gowns would be the fit of a gown or how it suits the body type and also keeping in mind height is the most critical aspect. The saying “seeing is believing” applies to the ‘T’ here so there ought to be no hesitation to try out the different fits to find the right one and also keep an open mind to advice and suggestions. Q. Points to note when opting to customise a gown? Kimi: We always recommend fits to our customers based on our experience of what would be ideal for bringing out the best look and feel. There are detailed recommendations based on silhouettes, necklines and colours. At our Couture nothing is sold off the rack, and since every design is worked upon from scratch, we have a great deal of flexibility and have in many cases created a one-off styles that are not even showcased in the boutique.

Grooms Guide 101 Written by Yosha Patole
Up until a few years ago, when asked about wedding fashion, a groom-to-be most likely would reply with the same answer (like most other grooms), i.e. yes, their Sherwani as per the bride’s lehenga colour had been bought with a couple of Indian wear options for the rest of the functions. Boring, right? Very. But this was in the past. Welcome to 2020, the year of style and glamour. The wedding industry is no stranger to fashion trends. Sure, the brides will slay their wedding looks, like they have been all these years, but this year, the grooms will be equally in focus! From a whole gamut of colours, fabrics, textures to patterns, designs and prints, etc. the new age groom has access to all these and more!
With the wedding season right up ahead, we decided to get in touch with the who’s who of the industry to help you with your Groom outfits and ideas. Brace yourself as you’re about to enter the world of men’s wedding fashion and more!
“The wedding outfit should represent who you are, without overpowering your personality”, says the talented menswear designer, Sahil Aneja on men’s wedding fashion. The grooms of today invest just as much time as brides to get the perfect wedding outfits. They aim to be sleek, stylish and uber cool in their own way while keeping their comfort level to the maximum. Unlike his predecessor, the millennial groom is making his personal sartorial choice.
Psst… we have some inside news, keep an eye out for dusky pink, powder blue, sage green and of course, the classic shades of beige and white for the perfect wedding outfit! “Grooms can go for an olive green to wine or charcoal grey, indigo blue or deep magenta colour other than the usual black”, says ace designer Asif Merchant on the trending colours for the upcoming season. Mehendi Party Lagake Sharty Rakhna Dear men, remember, something casual and classy would work best for your mehendi ceremony. “Apart from sherwanis, the classic bandhgala look is another great option or to give it an edgy look one can do away with a mid-thigh length bandhgala look as well”, shares Sahil.
Imagesource: Asif Merchant
The reception ceremony is a more formal event, so you could either go for a well-fitted Tuxedo or opt to go for an offbeat outfit. Designer Asif Merchant adds, “A nice Tux worn with a kurta shirt instead of a regular shirt and bow will give you that edgy and fusion look.” To this, TISA experts add “Layering is the best option for Sangeet/cocktail because it gives the groom the scope of experimentation and he can also keep the bandhgala open or remove it completely according to his comfort through the evening.”
Shaadi Biyah
As a groom-to-be, you ought to set the floor on fire and look dapper in whatever it is that you choose to wear on your big day. Grooming Tips for the Groom Written By Yosha Patole
Until very recently, a wedding was always about the bride - her dress, her look, her pictures, everything. But with time, the grooms have started getting their due (and well deserved) attention too. Have you seen the grooms these days?! So, dear grooms, some of you may already be au fait about the grooming products for you, spending time styling your hair or shaping your beard while for the others, a bath and a shave is enough to be taking it to the next level.
Taming the Beard The beard is the new ‘in’ thing, and we definitely can’t deny its charm! Bollywood actors like Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh have been slaying with their looks, thanks to that beard. And if it is the beardy-kind of look you are aiming for your wedding, there are some things you should keep in mind.
Whether you fall in the first half or the latter, grooming is vital to look and feel the best on your big day. If your wedding is planned for the near future, now is the time to get started with your grooming. Most men realize too late; they panic a week before, and there’s only so much you can do in such a short span of time. So, from what to how, we have got you covered!
What a Man Needs? If you thought you would only have to concentrate on your face to look your best, you are wrong, my friend! Beard, hair, skincare health - know about all these and more in this article.
“Beard grooming is one of the essential elements of growing, maintaining, and styling facial hair. A well-groomed beard is critical to good beard care because it signifies that you are willing to take the time to clean, maintain, and take care of your beard. And while grooming your beard is easy, men must understand the basics of washing, combing, brushing, trimming, and styling to ensure the perfect beard. Do not experiment with a new beard style; keep it neat and well-groomed 3-4 days before the D-day and use beard softener/oil regularly,”says Jayati Mehra, Sr. Marketing Manager at Ustraa.
The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in I 37
There are chances that you have been managing and shaping your beard by yourself all this while but now would be a good time to opt for a salon treatment and let the experts take over! You also need to pay attention to beard styles according to the shape of your face. Here are some expert insights as suggested by Ustraa:
Square: The angle of your jaw is sharp rather than round and thus make sure that the chin area is rounded or triangular. A chin patch and a moustache that forms a beard would suit you best
Round: The jawline for a round face isn’t as defined as the others. So, a short beard with neatly trimmed sides will do the trick for you!
Oval: A moustache which covers your entire top lip will look best since you have a larger forehead than the jawline and the jaw is rounded
Hairstyle Goals Haircuts for men have evolved so much in recent years, thanks to celebrities giving us the new #HairGoals now and then. Everyone is up for a change and would love to experiment with a modern look. But we wouldn’t recommend this just before your wedding. “Go for a haircut at least 15 days before your wedding.” Says Mehra. But if it is something that you want to do, we suggest trying the look well before your wedding day so that in case it doesn’t match your expectations; you can go back to your tried-and-tested look. 38 I The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in
Hairstyling Tips for Grooms by Ustraa If the shape of your face is:
Rectangle: Try the Pompadour or side parting
Oval: Try the Pompadour, side parting or a quiff
Square: The undercut, quiff or side parting Heart: A side parting or a quiff Triangle: A textured pompadour, curly top, and quiffs
Round: A side part, French crop or pompadour
Diamond: A messy fringe and wavy side part
Skin Care Ask a bride where she’s got her glow from, and she’ll say ‘it’s the haldi’ but it never really is. There are various things one needs to do to keep their skin flawless and blemish-free. Your wedding is one of those days when you will be the centre of attention in most pictures, so you ought to make sure you are looking your best! “The universal skincare regime suggested by everyone is cleansing, toning and moisturising followed by everyone, irrespective of the gender. It’s the most effective routine which gives crystal clear and fresh skin in just 15 days. Get a nice facial done one week before at least and keep your skin clean,” says Jayati at Ustraa. The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in I 39
Skin Care Tips from Ustraa: Tip Box Wash Up:
This may seem silly, but from the moment you get engaged, start washing your face properly. Not just soap and water, invest in a good cleanser and a weekly exfoliator and you’ll soon notice an extra polish to your complexion
Drink Up:
Water doesn’t just replenish your insides; it works wonders on your skin as well
Eat Healthy: Oily and greasy food clogs up your system and in turn, your skin. Say goodbye to oily food and stock your fridge with fresh veggies. Olive oil, fish particularly salmon, carrots and green tea are the secret to healthy skin. Incorporate them into your diet, and you will be amazed by the results
Proper Sleep: Sleep is also vital for a groom to get rid of baggy eyes or dark circles. Get at least eight hours of sleep every day. This will add radiance to your skin. Avoid drinking and smoking should as they cause dryness
Work Out:
A regular workout is a must
Don’t Forget to: Drink Lots of Water: Water helps in solving a lot of internal problems. Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated
Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle: If you’re a smoker, reduce smoking for a month and quit it a week before the wedding
Eat Right: Eat more vegetables and good food than junk and oily food
Work Out: Make work out a part of your daily routine and experience the instant change in energy
Smile Please! You are going to hear this a lot! And there’s nothing you can do but smile. So, you must make sure your teeth are shining white on your big day. Ward off those stains with some professional help if needed. But other than that, here’s how you can get that radiating smile: Use a tooth whitening toothpaste Go natural with some DIY tips off the internet Brush like a pro Floss like a boss

Getting Intimate: Guide to Wedding Lingerie Written By Kajol Vasandani
A bride does not want to be bothered with a bra strap peeking from her blouse or the inevitable humidity of Indian summer causing discomfort in her intimates, right? In the bigger frame of things, bridal lingerie may seem like a small and an inconsequential factor but it’s these tiny elements that make the most difference. A bride will want everything perfect for her special day so why ignore the garments that form the foundation of how her outfit is going to look? It’s not like she can pick the first items placed on display and assume they will do the trick for all the outfits. If you are getting married this summer, there are some factors that play a role in the decision-making process.
1. Play with Prints Just because your outfit is going to conceal your lingerie, it doesn’t mean you have to stick to plain and boring colours. Of course, you have to consider the colour of your outfit and accordingly pick the intimates. To do complete justice to your summer wedding, pick colours and prints
44 I The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in
that complement the season. Florals and pastel shades are obvious choices for summer but you can also go for some citrus prints which work well as a quirky option.
2. Fabricated No woman enjoys beads of sweat trickling down and finding their home in her cleavage. This sense of discomfort will heighten if the bride opts for a heavily padded bra for any outfits. Such a bra absorbs and retains heat and moisture. According to Cora Harrington, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of the world’s leading lingerie blog‘The Lingerie Addict’, “Fabrics that are light and soft against the skin are essential here. Think brushed cotton, Pima cotton, and silk (which is the ultimate in terms of comfort and breathability). If you prefer a bit more support or a

contour cup, look for bras made with a textile called “spacer fabric,” which is more breathable than foam
cup options. Avoid polyester satin at all costs! You’ll want to avoid nylon chiffon as well. Both will just soak through
3. Know it All
with moisture and leave you feeling damp and uncomfortable.”
An absolute must is trying the lingerie with the outfit before the ceremony. An Indian wedding comprises 3-4 different ceremonies, each one requiring a different outfit and hence, different silhouettes. From nipple covers to boob tape to strapless bras, learn about different available options. A padded seamless bra is easy on the skin and will make sure that your breast doesn’t seem flattened with all the heavy work. “While most of the brides focus on lingerie that looks fancy, they forget the importance of buying a good nude bra which goes well under all the attires”, says a representative from Wacoal India. Also, don’t shy away from including shapewear in your collection. Shapewear can do wonders when it comes to hiding that extra or unwanted roll of skin! Again, all this needs to be tried keeping in mind you are getting married during summer and it can get really humid!
The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in I 45
4. Take your Time Don’t rush into buying anything immediately; try on different options, get an idea of how comfortable you are and then accordingly make an informed decision. Most brides tend to lose weight before the wedding so keep that in mind while selecting your foundation garments. If you are small-chested, choose something that is padded but if you are on the heavier side, it is a matter of knowing how
to make it work with non-padded or thinly-padded bras. Above all and what’s most important is that you feel sexy, incredibly comfortable and confident in what you wear. There is no sense in purchasing a lingerie set that is super-sexy but does nothing if you are not completely comfortable and feel confident in it.
Tips (Going Backless): One doesn’t want to be bothered about the straps showing and slipping during the grand celebration. For the backless look, invest in a good silicone stick-on bra or nipple pasties which not only avoid showing the bra straps but also bring out the oomph factor of the look One thing I like to recommend is wearing your wedding undergarments before the big day, so you can identify any issues ahead of time. That way, if you need to purchase something new, you can. No one should be miserable on their wedding day!

The Honeymoon Lingerie Guide Written By Neharika Advani

Honeymoon. The one blessed vacation you take with your partner before you start getting repulsed by them. Ah, the honeymoon. Two kinky monkeys hopping around the town, waiting to explore the hidden pleasures of mindless sex. You know what will help you unravel the pleasures of honeymoon? Some steaming hot lingerie. If sex is a hot fudge sundae, lingerie is the cherry on top, acting as the perfect addition. There is no denying the fact that even simple lacy lingerie can turn tables. Numerous women have claimed that lingerie
boosts their confidence and instantly makes them feel powerful. Five days or five weeks, some special lingerie for each night might help to spice up the vanilla ice cream. It hardly occupies any space so stack ‘em up! Soumya Kant, the founder of one of India’s fastest growing lingerie brands, Clovia, is of the firm belief that lingerie can be a game-changer. Lace lingerie, bralette, backless bra, resort wear and babydolls are must-haves in every lady’s honeymoon trousseau.

How to Pick Lingerie? When it comes to steamy lingerie, the question of comfort always arises. Women who can spend an entire day in them deserve a clap on the back! We got in touch with Cora Harrington, lingerie expert and author of ‘In Intimate Detail’ to discuss the finer points of honeymoon specific lingerie. “I always believe the most important thing is comfort. Not just comfort in terms of fit, but comfort in helping you feel like the best version of yourself. You should feel confident and gorgeous on your 48 I The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in
honeymoon, not anxious or uncomfortable. That said, it’s also the perfect opportunity to try something new...whether that’s a new brand or a new style. recommends Cora. Unlike your wedding lehenga, your honeymoon lingerie can be used time and again. “Soft jerseys and knits, such as a little tank top and shorts combo are always a great idea. Other “sexy comfort” items include bralettes, tap shorts, chemises, robes (who doesn’t love a little shoulder peeking out from underneath a robe?), or even a half-buttoned nightshirt.” she continues.
Tight underwear often leads to chafing and decreased circulation. The ultimate lustre fabric silk is not your vajayjay’s best friend as it can cause yeast or bacterial infection. Get familiar with lacy, underwired bras and thong panties and make sure you are utterly comfortable in them. Remember, only pack them if you love them!
Honeymoon Destination’s Role in Lingerie Yes, my dear, your honeymoon destination does determine the kind of lingerie you should carry with yourself. Cora suggests purchasing a sherpa-lined robe or cashmere pajamas in case you go to a ski resort or a cold place. Soft padded bras are a good option too, considering what the winter winds can do to your nipples. But at the same time, there is no
harm in letting your pointy pecs be! Crotchless panties are ideal for summer but not so much for winters. If you’re honeymooning at a beach resort, a sheer chiffon caftan or teddy may be a better choice. Try to stick to breathable fibres such as cotton and bamboo and to avoid synthetic materials.
Care for your Lingerie Taking good care of your intimates can significantly increase their lifespan. You can’t just crumple them and fit them in your suitcase. Packing them neatly in separate bags will make a big difference. Here are some easy tips you can inculcate in your daily routine-
1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
Hand wash the bras or use a laundry bag while machine washing them Wash light coloured lingerie separately Avoid washing your bra after every wear You can wear it twice or thrice before washing again Do not use a machine dryer for your bra as it can deform its shape Hang your lingerie outdoors. Let it breathe
Your honeymoon will make for some fondest memories of your married life. Make sure some of these memories also include your mouth-wateringly-sexy-lingerie!

Bridal Hair Colour and Hairstyles Written by Yosha Patole
You are never fully dressed without great hair! Our hair is a style statement in itself. Whether you have short hair or long, there’s so much that you are saying with your hair. As a bride, you are going to be the focus at all times and that means having the perfect makeup and hairstyle. No one knows you better than you and so, obviously, you cannot just leave all these details to your hairdresser or hairstylist. It’s important to know what will suit you keeping in mind your hair length, hair colour, face cut and style! The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in I 51
We spoke to some industry experts who have years of experience in bridal hair styling, hair colour and more. In this article, we share what’s best for you in terms of styling your hair for your big day. “When choosing your wedding hairstyles along with deciding what suits you, you should also consider other factors such as the weather, if it is indoor or outdoor, and hairstyle building”, say Anjali Merchant and Divya Sabanayagam, the founders of Dryfix.
Hairstyles to Try on Coloured Hair Making things absolutely easy and clear for us, Dryfix says, “Curls and braids with coloured hair work very well.” When asked about which styles work best with coloured hair, they said: 1. Make it Bounce – A smooth bouncy out curl blowdry 2. Breaking Braid – A voluminous braid that starts from the top of your head to the tip 3. Bun and Only – An elaborate braid with a base of curls and then pinned. Works great with flowers 4. Wonder Waves – Loose brushed out waves that roll from the top of the head to the bottom
Which Haircut to Get When picking the right haircut, your face’s shape is one of the most important things to keep in mind. According to your face shape, here’s what will suit you: Oval: If you have an oval face, be thankful. Thanks to your face cut, a wide variety of haircuts suit you. Go for a bob or blunt cut for a cute look and a layered cut for a subtle look with a longer length. Round: Round, fuller cheeks and a narrow forehead, a haircut that makes your face longer in length will be best. Stay clear of bobs and singlelength cuts! Square: Broad forehead, wide cheekbones and a strong jawline, long layers with a side partition is sure to look great! Heart: With a broader forehead than a slim chin, you can amp up your look with a bob cut or a pixie cut, that will draw attention to the lower half of your face.

Haircare Before your Wedding
Before you start getting ready for your big day, there are some things you must keep in mind to avoid any last-minute goof-ups: 1. Avoid getting new scalp treatments a month before your wedding 2. Avoid any permanent straightening or cysteine treatments 3. Avoid a new haircut or hair colour just before your wedding 4. Test your hairstyles before hand 5. Ensure that the hairstyle is complementing your outfit, makeup and jewellery Image source: Dryfix
Things to Consider for Hassle-free Hair at the Wedding: Choosing the hairstyle isn’t enough. To have the perfect look, you must make sure to have the other details in sync as well: Where is the function: Indoor or outdoor, make sure your hairstyle is comfortable for the respective setting. Climate: Consider the climate and opt for a hairstyle that would keep you comfortable. Hair building: If you have two or more functions on the same day, you can build one hairstyle on top of another. “For example, do open curls for the first and then put those into a fun updo or pony for the night. Or, a blowdry tied into a bun that you can let loose for the night. Always better to not wash your hair between styles so they stay longer.” - adds Dryfix
Don’t forget these! - Don’t wash your hair on the day of your wedding - Don’t rush your hairstyle artist/team - Don’t forget backup

Making a Statement in Bling Written by Nikita Banerjee Bhagat
“Jewellery is like that perfect spice that always complements what’s already there.” - Diane Von Furstenberg Jewellery has long been that one element that attracts women across ages. And believe us when we say, each piece of jewelry worn at an event, be it a wedding, a party, even at small get together at home, draws attention of one and all. It is a symbol of status, of taste, often reflecting the wearer’s persona. Jewellery also helps make a statement and an unique piece of jewellery easily pushes one to be the centre of attention anywhere they go. And in the recent times, cocktail rings have caught the eye of one too many connoisseur of bling. Yes, we are talking about cocktail rings. Like its name, the cocktail ring was literally born for cocktail parties. But these cocktail parties weren’t hosted by the elite, the famous or the aristocracy. Unbeknownst to many, cocktail rings were born in the 1920s, in the heart of the prohibition era. The society was undergoing a major change. Uprisings and revolutions were common. It was also a time when women gained more freedom. Their role in society wasn’t limited to being just a housewife or a mother. They were stepping out in the world, albeit a man’s world and making their presence felt. This was no easy task. Therefore, difficult times called for bold measures such as enjoying the illicit alcohol and dazzling one and all with a stunning cocktail ring! In short, it was an expression of freedom as well as a rebellion. Now that we have established its origins in the world of jewellery, it doesn’t particularly belong to a hierarchy. But they are the OGs of bling for sure! And there is no reason why a beautiful woman shouldn’t announce her ‘arrival’ wearing an equally beautiful ring, right? An epitome of excess, these rings were dramatic, often designed with a large precious stone at the centre, mostly an emerald or ruby, even a sapphire surrounded by paved Image source: Jhoomer Jewels
diamonds. Worn on any other finger than the ring finger on the left hand, it was testimony to the fact that this piece was bought by the wearer aka woman herself - another symbol of independence. In the recent times, cocktail rings have made a comeback in a big way and they are famous with millennial women and brides. This is because they view their wedding jewellery in a different light. Jewellery is not purchased only for the day of the wedding or to wear to family functions. Jewellery pieces have to be practical and versatile. So, with these two keywords in focus, a cocktail ring is a must. Millennials often prefer jewellery that is unique, reflects their persona. They also prefer minimal pieces and if one such piece can do the trick then why not?! A cocktail ring fits the bill. Plus, an independent millennial bride may indulge herself and buy the bauble! “Nowadays women pay heed to more styling and wish to add more statement pieces to their wardrobe,” Plus, these days nobody likes to wear multiple rings but looks forward to wearing one big jewel speaking for itself” says Anjali Rach, Head Designer & Owner, Jhoomer Jewels. So as one sets out to make the splash, what are the important points to note? “Today there is no dearth of colours when it comes to these statement rings. In terms of designs too, the variety is huge. In fact, so many variations are available that a bride-to-be is bound to find something that is to her taste and matches her personality,” says Anjali. Pradeep Jethani, CEO, Founder and Owner of Jet Gems adds, “like any other element of fashion, the basic rules remain the same here — choose something that suits your personality. Whatever the look is, you should be able to carry it off with ease.”
How to Pick and Choose the Right Cocktail Ring? “When shopping for jewelrey, we always recommend that you Establish your budget. This will help you and the jeweller narrow down the options. In jewelry, there is quite a large range of pricing options—ranging from a couple hundred to thousands of dollars depending on the various factors,” says Jethani. Anjali Rach of Jhoomer Jewels adds, “As the gold prices have inflated so much, a good cocktail ring starts from Rs 90000 onwards . Atleast 10 Gms of gold and 1.5 ct of diamonds go to craft one nice statement ring.” 58 I The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in

To Invest in a Cocktail Ring or Not? “Absolutely! One which goes with their western look and the other which goes with the indian. Wearing a cocktail ring gives statement look to your attire as it helps you highlight your hand.” says Rach. Currently, pastels colours are the in thing when it comes to jewellery as is with couture. The deep reds, greens and blues are off. “What is trending is pinks for which we use pink sapphires or morganites, light greens for which we use light emeralds or chrysophrase. Lately we use lot of carved stones also which give natural feel to the jewel.” “There has never been such a wide variety of cocktail rings, showcasing all the colors of the rainbow and virtually-designed in every style imaginable. For jewelry lovers & millennial brides who like to make bold statements, a cocktail ring is a wonderful addition to a jewelry collection in today’s times.” says Jethani of Jet Gems.

Wedding Films: A Guide for Millennial Couples Written by Ashita Ahuja
“I cannot get over my wedding video even today (rolls her eyes), after so many years of my marriage. The cliche and super-mushy poses my husband and I struck and the fact that two hearts with his face inside them appeared on my palms almost magically with ‘Mere rang mein rangne waali’ played in the background made it nothing short of a cringefest!” -Sonia Ahuja, homemaker who has been married for 35 years. Many of us have witnessed our parents’ wedding videos and I can safely say that most of us couldn’t resist pressing the ‘Forward’ button multiple times. However, wedding videography has seen quite a transformation from what it was a few decades ago. Although some couples still go in for traditional videography, wherein everything is recorded from the start to the end, most don’t end up watching them thereafter on account of the duration that seems more like an ordeal. These days, cinematic wedding films are trending in the Indian weddings’ sphere. The candid shots, the variety of angles, close-ups, drone photography and slow-motion edits are only some of the many dramatic elements responsible for making these films more popular over the years.

According to Noopur and Anish, Cofounders of Happy Flashbacks, the Indian wedding filmmaking trend is transforming. With regards to this they say and I quote, “When we look at the Indian wedding filmmaking sphere these days, editing and transitions are being paid key attention to. There is a special emphasis on the post-production process, rather than a lot of focus on candid moments and storytelling.” Wedding videos are essential when capturing special moments of a wedding, that otherwise get lost and to which photographs cannot do complete justice. Whether it is a relative breaking into a naagin dance, the groom kissing the bride’s forehead gently, or the bride’s mother trying to control her tears during the vidaai, there are moments that wouldn’t be half as special or memorable if wedding films did not exist. However, there are a bunch of misconceptions that couples have while booking a wedding videographer. Here are some that need to be busted at the earliest.
Wedding Videos: A Fading Trend? Wedding videos and films, both have a different purpose to serve. Wedding videos are more like a complete documentation of the entire wedding ceremony, while films 64 I The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in

are based more on experience and done with the intention of making memories in an aesthetically appealing way. A wedding film has more than just recording the happenings- it has snippets of interviews by the bride and groom and the family/friends and it is more concept-based, almost like a story. In other words, a wedding venue consists usually of a linear concept, recording and
showcasing the happenings at a wedding as they are, sans any frills, except for probably background music and transitions. A wedding film, however, is more personalised and focuses a lot on the relationship between the couple. For most filmmakers, the aim is to capture the minute details, bringing to life the couple’s love story.
Image source: Madhura Lingayat @Little Big Weddings
Does a Story Concept or Plot Matter? “Weddings can be unpredictable. No matter how much you plan and try, things do get haywire while in action. We do take note of the kind of couple they are, what kind of songs they like, and their camaraderie. Based on that we prepare a little outline which helps us ask the right questions to get what we want,” says Madhura Lingayat, Wedding Photographer and FilmMaker at Little Big Weddings. While filming a wedding, although filmmakers may take down certain guidelines and note some basic information about the couple, a lot of it happens organically, on the D-day. Some couples like a particular film and may use it as a reference to show their filmmaker what they actually want, while some just narrate their story and leave it on the filmmakers as to how they would like to present it. To this, Noopur and Anish add that, “We do not rely on preconceived concepts or stories as we don’t like to be directors of the wedding film. We leave it to the couple to interact naturally with one another. We try to get as many natural shots as possible and show very real emotions. We put this together in a way that tells a real story and try to incorporate any narrative the couple wants in the film.”
Tips
Here are a few quick tips every couple should keep in mind while booking an ideal wedding filmmaker for their event:
1. 2.
It is imperative for you to know the cost to be incurred for the shoot
If there is any particular location you have in time, it is best you make sure the filmmakers know, so that they can plan the filmmaking concept accordingly
3. 4.
Enquire about the size of the team
Ask the filmmakers to show you their previous work and discuss your preferences with them as well. It is imperative that you know if you and the filmmaker are on the same page The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in I 65

Make sure the events are properly planned and enough time is given to each ceremony D. The event flow should be drafted at least 3 weeks in advance and circulated to the photography team to give them enough time to plan the shoot E. Peacocks and Paisleys, Florals and Faces. For a quintessential Indian bride, the significance of mehendi is considerably beyond just the artwork, and more intriguing than the intricacies of the mehendi designs. The word ‘mehendi’ is derived from the Sanskrit word, ‘mehdhika’. The history of mehendi can be traced back to 5000 years ago when people would soak their palms and feet into henna for a cooling sensation. Gradually this sparked the idea of using it to form patterns on the skin as they looked appealing to the eyes. Prior to the advent of tattoos and other modern ways of beautification, henna leaves were dried and ground into a powder-like form, thereafter, making it into a fine paste. Subsequently, the paste was used for body art, using a variety of application techniques. Image Source : Henna by Pallavi
In the Indian culture, the ritual of applying mehendi before the wedding ceremony has existed since times immemorial. The mehendi ceremony entails the extensive application of mehendi designs over the bride’s palms, hands, and feet. It is believed that this acts as a good omen and thus, it is a must-have ceremony before most Indian marriages. In some traditions, mehendi is applied to the hands of the groom as well. Beliefs state that the colour of the mehendi is directly proportional to the bond of love between the couple- the darker the colour, the stronger the love connection! Others believe that mehendi stands for fertility and it signifies the understanding shared between a newlywed bride and her mother-in-law. Image Source : Henna by Pallavi
In present times, the mehendi ceremony stands as one of the most awaited wedding festivities for a bridefilled with colour, music, and razzmatazz. Mehendi ceremonies witness the family and friends of the bride and groom dancing to folk or traditional songs, the decor is usually avant grande with quirky accents to add the extra oomph, while the ladies of family sit eager to get mehendi applied onto their palms. Most brides are known to get the initial of their partner’s name incorporated into the design as well.
74 I The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in
Traditional vs Minimalistic Pallavi Parinita, an ace mehendi designer says, “Both minimalistic and conventional designs have their fair portion of fan following among the bridesto-be. But, if we talk about pure numbers, more brides opt for conventional intricate designs, the reason being you can have minimalistic henna on any regular day as well. Having said that some brides have a very unique vision of their wedding and opt for subtle and minimalistic themes as well.”
Personalised Mehendi Designs: Here to Stay? In the past few years, there has been a swift transition in the designs that brides opt for, and personalised designs have almost steamrolled the other elements.
Although there has been an upsurge in the demand for minimal, more simplistic and understated mehendi designs for the millennial brides who do not want anything too extravagant, however, one cannot deny that the core of most mehendi designs is strongly dominated by or revolve around more traditional designs.
The primary reason behind this is the fact that brides have grown fond of getting most of their wedding elements customised or personalised, making their wedding stand out from the rest. Also, mehendi artists have become adept at infusing personalised elements into the bride’s mehendi designs.
Image Source : Henna by Pallavi
The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in I 75
“I think it is a great way of making your mehendi more meaningful, fun and relatable. It is also a wonderful medium to have the groom included in the mehendi design, which otherwise, he is not a part of (except probably for his name’s initial). The entire bespoke mehendi process is an elaborate one- involving both the bride and groom in discussing the same. The personalised elements revolve around couples giving their mehendi more depth and making it a rather memorable experience,” says well-known mehendi designer Rashi Aggarwal. In the recent past, a bevvy of personalised elements have proven to be trendsetters when it comes to bridal mehendi designs, like love quotes, portraits of the couple, portraits of their pet(s), elements depicting their favourite movies or Television shows (for example Game of Thrones), symbols representing their first date or a location close to their hearts, and things they share in common.
White Henna: Yay or Nay? Although not a full-blown rage when it comes to the bridal mehendi arena, one cannot deny the prettiness it adds to a bride’s ensemble. The irony is that although referred to as ‘white mehendi’, based on the way it looks, it does not contain any amount of henna. Some make use of cosmetic adhesives to prepare it, while some prepare it using body paint and glitter. To this, Rashi Aggarwal adds, “I have had requests for white mehendi designs, however, none of them have been from a bride for a wedding. 76 I The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in
Such requests are usually few and far between and only for casual parties.” The number of brides choosing this style over traditional mehendi designs is extremely low. This may be due to the fact that brides still have a cartload of unanswered queries when it comes to white mehendi and also it does not leave impressions on the skin, just like conventional mehendi does.

Boil some sugar in water and allow it to cool off, then transfer it into a bowl. Now, add few drops of lemon juice, apply to your hands after the henna is dried and then add the sugar mixture. This helps the mehendi to become darker 3. After applying the lemon juice and sugar mixture, heat few cloves on in a pan and then can run your hands over clove fumes. After the sugar and lemon mixture dries up, you can scrape off the mehendi 4. Rub balm on your hands after you scrape off the dried mehendi. Destination Weddings: Where to Get Married? Written by Yosha Patole Imagine saying ‘I do’ with the majestic sea as the background or amidst the divinity of the temples as you take the first step towards your blissful forever. It’s the perfect wedding set up, isn’t it? From celebrating your big day with every Tom, Dick and Harry in town to celebrating it with your near and dear ones, weddings have come a long way. And if you’re one such millennial couple looking to begin your happily-ever-after in style, private yet in luxury, then this one’s for you!
India’s wedding industry is estimated to be worth $40-50 billion a year. Destination Weddings, domestic and international, contribute a large chunk to this amount. While still a new phenomenon, they are picking up pretty quickly. “Average Spend at a destination wedding is about 75L to 1.5Cr,” says the founder of Sepia Events, Manav. Most couples today are opting to celebrate their special day away from the hustle of city life. And who can blame them? Clearly, we don’t!
Why to Opt for a Destination Wedding? What sets destination weddings apart from locally hosted weddings is that, first of all, a destination wedding acts like a big fat family vacation and then there is a cut down on the guest list. While invitations may be sent out to all, not many are expected to attend it. Sunaina, one of the founders of Memorable Indian Weddings explains that they are more intimate and personalized, giving you control over the guest list, decor and ultimately make the wedding a part of their personality. Manav, the founder of Sepia Events agrees with the intimacy angle and suggests going for a destination wedding that offers more privacy and scope for special ceremonies.

“We had a lavish engagement ceremony within the city and belonging to large families meant that there were one too many guests, most of whom we hadn’t really met or engaged with before our function,” says Maheka Mehta, 28, who tied the knot in 2019. She further adds that luckily her parents and in-laws agreed for a destination wedding albeit closer to the city in good ole Lonavala. Hosting the wedding ceremonies outside the city definitely helped Maheka cut down on the guest list. “I was surrounded by my loved ones. I knew each and every one. The same was true for my husband too. My family was at ease. Everyone had a part to play and hit it off really well!” says Maheka. Our Weddingz WOW report revealed that between January 1, 2019 to December 26, 2019, Goa was one of the most popular destinations for a wedding. A Butter Chiken & Bhujia Affair: Decoding an Eco-friendly Wedding Written by Ashita Ahuja
When it comes to shaadi-biyaahs, all Indians follow the same mantra ‘no expense spared!’ While this adds to all the fun and frolic, it often leads to a lot of waste, contributing to a big chunk of carbon footprint and of course, physical as well as sound pollution. Thankfully, this attitude is now on the mend. There is a new buzz word doing the rounds - Eco-friendly weddings. Yes, it is a real thing and it is indeed heartwarming to see how more and more couples are becoming sensitive to the environment and incorporating changes in their wedding to ensure it causes minimal or no harm to the environment. Sanchita and Prasoon’s zero-waste wedding is proof of how one can ace an eco-friendly affair, while making it look gorgeous. 86 I The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in
Fun fact- The wedding was a mix of two different cultures. Prasoon was born and brought up in Delhi and Sanchita was born and brought up in Bikaner, Rajasthan. Prasoon comes from a fun-loving Punjabi family and Sanchita comes from a simple Baniya family. While Prasoon’s family’s idea of a wedding was dance, daaru, chicken, and fun, Sanchita’s family’s idea of the wedding was the rituals and good food. Prasoon’s favourite food is butter chicken, while Sanchita’s is bhujia and that is how the hashtag of their wedding is #butterchickenwithbhujia.

he beatiful bride, Sanchita, is a hardcore zero-waste enthusiast and working hard towards achieving UN sustainable goals. The environmentally-conscious bride Sanchita asked her sister Prakriti to take care of the wedding arrangements for her all-green wedding. Prakriti and Sanchita are very pro-sustainability and do their bit in their everyday lives to be as environment-friendly as possible. Prakriti came up with the theme of ‘Let Love Grow’ and executed it effortlessly. Prakriti, who is also a successful freelance wedding consultant at Creative Minds Corner said, “The first thing I did as the wedding planner was to Google ‘eco-friendly weddings’ in India. It was shocking to see that no North Indian wedding has been done in a fully zero-waste manner. I definitely had the option to talk to some existing planners to help us arrange an eco- friendly wedding, but I was personally so passionate about this and wanted to avoid waste in every step of the way and not just those two days. It was very exciting to see that there are a lot of weddings using eco-friendly cutlery and using saplings at their wedding ceremonies, but we wanted to make sure every element is paid attention to.”
The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in I 87
Mehendi Signage and Favours To begin with, the mehendi ceremony’s highlight was the signage, ‘Let Love Grow’ that signified the mehendi favours in the cart. The signage was made on seed paper and unused cardboard was utilized to make it stiff. Prakriti ensured that she did not use a flex board, as that would contain plastic that would never biodegrade. There was a cart at the Mehendi ceremony that had eco-friendly favours for the guests. The idea of having seed balls was clever and fun, mainbecause as favour it is easily portable and grows into one full plant. Each seed ball could grow into a full marigold plant. Each seed ball was packed in an organza dupatta. These were ordered from Araatrika. In addition to this, saplings were also kept for the local guests. The idea behind this wasn’t new, but it was an attempt to revive the almost-forgotten hobby of gardening. To this Prakriti adds, “The highlight of this favour was its packaging. When you generally purchase a sapling from a nursery, you get them in a plastic bag or in plastic pots. When we ordered these plants for the favours, we requested the nursery to wrap them in jute bags instead. For this, we collected scrap jute bags from the scrap dealer and cut them into smaller pieces to make them suitable to fit the saplings.”
Chair Tags Prakriti made special chair tags for the couple for the sangeet ceremony. These tags were upcycled using scrap jute bags and acrylic paint.
Ritual Gifts Every wedding involves lots and lots of gift exchanges and specially on the Sagan day. The gifts for the groom’s family were all packed in a cotton cloth bag reusable cloth and was upcycled using some wooden trays and baskets that were just not used. These were further decorated with a net instead of plastic. There was a handwritten name tag attached to every gift to complete this gift look.
The cart also had leheriya sarees, that were given away to the bridesmaids and they wore them on the Haldi ceremony. The sarees did not need any special wrapping owing to them being colourful and beautiful and they were simply packed with a golden thread. 88 I The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in

Hadli Decor and Favours The haldi ceremony is an integral part of any wedding ceremony, and it is the emotions and use of bright hues that make it noteworthy! The bride’s haldi and Prakriti made sure that the gendas were grown at home itself. To top this, lemons and chillies were used to give a homely vibe and to maintain the zero-waste theme. Prakriti made quite an impact with the return gifts for the guests and her idea was undoubtedly out-of-thebox. For the guests, men were gifted khadi kurtas, while for the ladies there were Gota Patti embroidered kurta pieces. “We wanted to gift something unique to our friends and we went with a reusable box of organic beauty products specially curated by “Lushveda” without any plastic packaging and a cultural local art chowki,” said Prakriti. The haldi favours were quite unconventional as wellsmall pom-pom badges for men and handmade haathphools for the ladies. Image source: Biginnings for you
Sagan ka Lifafa What happens when you receive a sagan ka lifafa? It is most likely you take out the cash and then do away with it. Most times it is impossible to reuse the envelope as it has the host’s name written on it. In view of this, Prakriti cycled the envelopes from newspapers and put a wax seal on each of them. They made approximately 200 envelopes using three different colours, indicating the amount of money each had. The best part was that many guests kept the envelope as a memoir of an unforgettable wedding The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in I 89
Cutlery When it comes to being eco-friendly, the cutlery was not far behind. The food was served in barges bamboo disposable plates and re-usable ceramic cutlery instead of plastic or thermacol cutlery.
Welcome Kits “As a wedding guest, everyone loves a welcome kit and we wanted #butterchickewithbhujia guests to feel special as well. Most bags have plastic and so we decided to use brown paper bags and paste handwritten welcome notes on them. The welcome kits had some savoury snacks, some biscuits, a drink,an energy bar, a small cute bag with a mint, a sewing kit, some Vicks toffees and a Digene medicine. There were 70 such kits made and hand-lettered by me individually.” she added. Prakriti also made sure many other elements of the wedding were zero-waste; like the bride’s haldi footwear, return gifts, the wedding card, and the ring platter.
90 I The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in
The idea behind this green wedding was not just to reduce wastage that a wedding generates but was also to spread some awareness of how alternate choices and small conscious efforts can make a difference. Prakriti and Sanchita are of the opinion that even if 100 guests from the wedding learned about the importance of being eco-friendly, they have successfully done their bit and played their part.
Ace your Wedding Decor Written by Ashita Ahuja

“On an average, Indian couples tend to spend a whopping 50 per cent of their wedding budget on decor, and in case of destination weddings, this becomes one-third of their overall budget,” says Ananya Berry, Creative Director at Andevi Weddings. Most of us are not unaware of the fact that decor trends constantly keep transforming, and every wedding season there is an influx of varied decor elements and range of hues stand out. Currently, Indian weddings are laying major emphasis on the use of flowers for their wedding functions. In addition to this, the use of different fabrics and the demand for higher quality furniture, that did not exist earlier, are presently on the rise. There has also been a considerable insistence on eco-friendly and sustainable weddings. Talking about Indian weddings, the redolence of fresh seasonal blooms, the rustic touch supplemented by elements made up of bamboo and cane and multiple drapes add the much-needed colour and vibrancy to a summer wedding. Weddings like these are nothing short of decor idea storehouses, filled with inventive themes and pastel hues, adhering to the summer vibe. The functions prior and after the D-day, there are a few decor elements that have shone more in comparison to others, like floral or green walls as backdrops, photo booths, thread tassels, colourful pom poms and neon signages. According to Aditi Hamlai, the Founder of Fireflies, “The current wedding colour palette should consist of cooler colours. Violet, different hues of green and blue will be reigning the colour arena.” 92 I The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in

Indoor vs Outdoor Decor Outdoor summer weddings give couples a chance to experiment with a bevvy of decor element, considering the fact that the spaces are larger and that most outdoor wedding take place during the evenings and not during the morning or afternoon. Ditching too much artificial light, for outdoor functions, it is best to opt for warm light sources; like candles, fairy lights, and cascading bulbs. Stick to props that emulate nature and exude refreshing vibes. Although it may appear to be slightly cliche, outdoor functions discursively demand the
overall decoration to be more open, breezy, and uncluttered. Do not add extra flowers, and allow other decor elements to manifest their significance. Crystal chandeliers, light-hued drapes, floral wreaths, and arches can add a charming quotient to the indoor weddings. Moreover, table decoration plays a pivotal role in this area, as more than half the focus is on the table arrangement and setup. In this sphere, it is best to allow table centrepieces to bespeak of the chosen decor theme. The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in I 93
Pool Party: Adding Oomph to the Wedding The refreshing feeling of taking a dip in the pool, enjoying a mocktail, and having fun with your friends and family; a pre-wedding pool party can guarantee unmatched fun if it is done right. However, beverages and cute favours are not the only elements that make up for a successful pool party.
For starters, pick a theme and stick to it. If you want it to be simple, go in for cascading lanterns, balloons and colourful signboards. But, if the pool party theme is slightly whimsical, you can always experiment with flamingos, pineapples, and other props. Aditi Hamlai, the Founder of Fireflies says, and I quote, “I would strongly recommend fun floats. You could use colourful buntings or pinwheels across the top and keep a stack of beach towels for the guests to use. I have often noticed that people tend to lose their hats and sunglasses. So, I believe you could incorporate a hat and sunglasses station as part of the decor.”
Decoding DIY Decor While there are a plethora of decor options to make your wedding extravagant, having a budget summer wedding does not mean entirely compromising on the prettiness and theme of the function. You could always go in for DIY options, adding a more personalised touch to the wedding or opt for more statement decor elements, that easily convey the theme without usurping too much of your budget. Ananya Berry adds, “It is best to avoid different setups for the dining area and the lounge, and it is advisable to combine the both of them. When it comes to decor, the right thing to do is to use fewer structural elements. Also, you could opt for venues that have beautiful architectural elements that you can enhance, rather than trying to build something from scratch.” 94 I The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in
While speaking of DIY decor ideas, Nilma Dileepan, Wedding Designer at ‘With Love Nilma’ gives some easy and hassle-free ideas that acn be incorporated into the wedding decor: -If you are looking out for paper-based decor elements, origami birds, pinwheels, and paper flowers are a good pick. -You could also use brass items and enhance them with the good old marigold flowers. -You could use traditional powder rangoli to enhance the entrance to the function. For the ceiling, suspended cane baskets and fairy lights can do the trick. -Lastly, you can use pickle jars with flowers, candles, and reuse old bottles as potential table centerpieces.

Tips for Wedding Decor
1.
Choose your location (indoor/outdoor) according to the weather and the timing of the wedding ceremony. For example, if it is too hot and an afternoon wedding, stick to an indoor venue
2. Pick a trending colour palette and preferably
go in for softer colours
3. Choose flowers that can withstand the heat. Go
in for flowers like orchids, lilies and sunflowers
4.
Make wedding favour stations part of your decor and try to incorporate them into the theme Nilima Dileepan adds that, “It is best to plan in advance, especially if you’re wedding is in the first0half of the year. Don’t follow trends blindly, spend some time reflecting what resonates with you and your fiance and imbibe the same in the decor. It is best if you can showcase your styles and personalities through it.” Image source: With love Nilma

Bottoms Up!
Wedding Cocktails & Mocktails Written by Kajol Vasandani
If you’ve got a wedding to attend this summer, you will definitely find this quite relatable. It will probably be a hot and humid day with you hankering for something refreshing and cool. Perhaps a zest of citrus? Or do you prefer savouring the notes of something sweet? While the season’s hot winds are not considered as ‘ideal weather’, there are many delicious fruity and floral flavours that the season bestows us with and we can enjoy them at weddings… err, not in a fruit chaat but in the form of signature mocktails and cocktails! Delish, right?
Flavour Up!
Whether the couple or any of the guests are a fan of wine, gin, vodka, beer or simply prefer skipping the alcohol, numerous options should be available and that too curated in such a manner that everyone gets to enjoy the season’s flavours as well as some favourite classics! “When selecting whiskies for summer one should pick whiskies with notes of tropical fruits, vanilla, honey, caramel etc. One could look at some Irish whiskies too, given their light & subtle flavours. For wine selection, a couple could look at fresh floral, herbal and fruity flavours. Roses, whites & sparkling wines (Prosseco & Champagne) all of which are served chilled are perfect for summer weddings.”, says Vinayak from The Dram Club, a whisky-tasting platform for whisky enthusiasts.
Flavours play a crucial role in any drink. Depending on the season’s availability, different fruity and floral elements can be added to your drink. Considering it’s a summer wedding, fruits like mango, watermelon and kokum and flowers like roses and hibiscus can be incorporated into the drinks being served. Professional Mixologist Kunal Asrani says, “Basically anything that is rich in juice or sugar content and keeps you going during a warm day is an ideal addition for a summer wedding mocktail or cocktail.”

Herb, Please What’s Trending?
A nice addition to the drink and a great way to bring out the fruity flavour or floral note is by mixing in some herbs or spices. Your choice of herbs or spices depends on the element central to the signature drink in question. “All the herbs work, but some are a little more refreshing - mint, basil, ginger, lemongrass, salt & chilli. Also fruits like cucumber, melon, citrus fruits (especially the zest/skin), sugarcane, coconut, etc.”, Ami Behram Shroff, Flair Bartender Mixologist, Juggler & Wanderer. This does not mean you need to stick to the classic and standard infusion. It is always a good idea to play around with flavours and watch the wedding guests get fascinated with new and unique combinations.

Almost every day, you will come across a new food and drinks trend. Some continue to become increasingly popular while others enjoy their moment of fame and ebb away. A trend that is making an appearance at weddings is that of mixing in savoury elements. Turns out, mushrooms can do wonders to a drink. Same goes for adding items like peppercorns or chillies that bring a spice quotient to the drink.

Make it Signature
Something that will always be a part of the wedding bar is the concept of ‘Personalised Mocktails and Cocktails’. Wedding guests love it! Have drinks named after close-knit family and friends, individual traits of the couple or the theme of the pre-wedding ceremony! Everybody enjoys their drink in a different way so it is important to know your audience and personalise those signature drinks accordingly. According to Ami behram Shroff, cucumber is going to be a big trend in summer. “Also less usage of processed sugar and more of other alternatives like - jaggery, date syrup, coconut sugar, sugarcane juice and other fructose from fruits as sweeteners.” All this chatter is sure to make us crave some delicious cocktails. Time to make a beeline towards the bar!

Evolving Flavours of Indian Weddings Written by Kajol Vasandani
Visualise yourself at a typical Indian wedding - chaotic chatter of the crowd intermingling with songs blaring from the DJ booth, a light breeze in the air to bring relief to the crowd that seems to be melting away in the summer heat, wafting aromas of various food items slowly and steadily enticing you as you trudge your way towards the buffet set up in your rather uncomfortable ethnic ensemble. Once you reach the buffet spread, you are greeted by an overwhelming number of food choices ranging from fried to steamed, desi Chinese to Indian chaat, gourmet finger foods from around the world to hearty regional Indian flavours. Now, you are posed with the ultimate dilemma - what to eat?

O
ver the decades, the concept of food served at weddings has changed immensely. Aeons ago, cooking a wedding feast was left to the community. A regional community living within the same geographical boundaries would list out the different responsibilities, including the in-charge of the kitchen and all the food that was to be prepared. Authenticook home chef Prabha says, “I believe in preserving the traditional cooking when it comes to preparing wedding food since that helps define our culture and community.
Moreover, it is a good way to pass on our culinary traditions to future generations.” Authenticook is an online platform that promotes regional Indian cuisines through authentic home-dining experiences and home chef Prabha has played host to more than 200 diners! Since there wasn’t any Western influence, traditional cooking methods were put to use to create flavours that spoke volumes of the regional community’s history and cultural practices. There was a fixed menu served in a particular sequence so the question of ‘what to eat?’ never arose.
Things have changed ever since. We have gone from knowing nothing beyond the regional flavours to experiencing an explosion of Western and modernized cuisines and finally coming full circle with the revival of regional, authentic dishes served at a wedding in India. Although the value of good food at an Indian wedding still remains an important factor, what has changed is the transition from communities preparing food to caterers providing the food that transcends boundaries.
The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in I 103
What’s more, caterers have (metaphorically) opened doors for wedding guests to savour crossregion specialities as well flavour the world’s cuisines such Mexican, Chinese, Italian - at an average cost of Rs.800 - 1000 charged
per head/per plate. According to Gala Caterers, one of the leading catering services in India, “Everyone likes to try varieties of cuisines and wants to savour the new trendy dishes. Smaller niche cuisines are getting popular and
trendy for weddings. Couples are really loving buttoned-up comfort foods and live counters, but it’s still all about the presentation at the end of the day.”

T
he catering industry now has to keep up with the various food trends. It’s not like the old times where a hearty, ghee-laden meal was well-enjoyed by one and all, without much to worry about the added calories. Nowadays, almost everyone is on a sprint to be healthy. A variety of healthier options need to be mutually considered and decided upon by a catering service and the couple while charting out a wedding menu. While some dishes are best presented and served in the traditional way, other food choices are being given a more modern approach. “Today, caterers are pulling back on oil and ghee, replacing the sugar with jaggery and going vegan too. Why? I wondered and concluded that weddings are about indulging your guests. The food is what the function is remembered by. Couples understand that many of their guests will not touch the deep-fried vadas but enjoy millet crepe and a smoothie. Today, wedding menus are not about having a large spread of heavy-duty foods but all 104 I The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in
about attention to detail and looking after the needs of the guests. Vegan, diabetic-friendly, fresh foods stands get as much importance as the Dal Makhani and Paneer Pasanda, which, mind you is never going out of demand,” says Phorum Dalal, food and travel writer. There are still some communities that still believe in maintaining their culinary integrity and traditions while incorporating modern factors such as a catering service. For example, in a Bohri Wedding, you will get to witness and experience their traditional style of community dining where friends and family settle themselves around a large thaal and feast on a wide range of delectable dishes. “As per the Bohra culture we still prefer to stay with the traditional touch since the slow-cooking method adds a little more flavour to the food. For example, the mighty raan requires to be slow-cooked, Bohra

khichda (haleem) which is also a good example of slow and yummy cooking”, said Authenticook home chef Mehroze who hosts Bohri thaal homedining experiences. “In the Bohra culture, we believe there should be no wastage of food hence, our concept of having food in the thaal which consists of 8 people seated around the big steel thaal. This allows for minimum wastage of food since whatever is served proves to be just sufficient enough for those 8 people.” The same stands true for a wedding in the Southern region of India where the food may be provided by a catering company but wedding guests sit down cross-legged and enjoy a wedding feast served in a particular order on banana leaves. Even then, you will notice that flavoursome food still remains at the core and a catering service needs to pay careful attention to details to maintain that kind of authenticity.
A
conversation about Indian wedding food is incomplete without a mention of its gloriously extensive list of desserts. May it the soft Gulab Jamuns dripping in sugar syrup, piping hot Jalebis luring you towards the live station or the perfect squares of Barfi that you could simply gobble up in an instance. Even some of the Western desserts such as Blueberry Cheesecake, Chocolate Ice Cream and Honey Noodles have made their constant place at the buffet table and in the hearts of the guests. Times may have changed but maintaining the authenticity of flavours still remains the most important thing in an Indian wedding feast. We have gone from not knowing anything beyond regional and geographical flavours to jumping in the deep end of the world’s diverse flavours and finally returning to our roots to revive the lost art of authentic and regional flavours by combining them with evolving modern methods of cooking.

Evolution of Desserts Written By Neharika Advani
“Jalebi for your biye-r dessert buffet? Are you for real? I did not travel across the states to eat jalebi at your wedding!” - a disgruntled cousin attending a distant relative’s wedding. Agree much? Three in every five Indians claim that they attend a wedding only to gorge on the delicious spread. From a single scoop of vanilla ice cream and a chilled bottle of Campa Cola to a string of food stations, the Indian wedding buffet has come a long way. A typical wedding buffet will have at least five different cuisines with one dedicated dessert aisle. Ah, the glorious dessert aisle! A fair warning, this article will make your mouth water and give you some serious cravings. If you think you can read about moong dal ka halwa, cakes, cheesecakes, etc without salivating, be prepared to be proved wrong! Over the years desserts have evolved from the humble gulab-jamun to motichoor cheesecakes. We now indulge in fancier desserts like whiskey ice-creams instead of the plain Jane vanilla.
Vinesh Johny, pastry chef and founder of the famed Lavone Academy thinks globalisation and social media have played a big role in bringing this dessert evolution. "With the recent evolution of food sciences and molecular gastronomy, desserts have sure come a very long way! From entremets, gateaux, petit fours, layered cakes or even plated desserts; chefs today are extremely focussed on textures, temperatures, taste & mouthfeel. We are always trying to take it to the next level. Engaging the senses while creating lasting memories is what’s most crucial", he says. Vinesh is credited for introducing the country to "mood pills", a concept that associates human feelings with artisan handcrafted chocolate. It instantly became a raging hit and people from all across the country and several parts of the world demanded a piece of it. Each pill is named after a feeling- joy, chill, go, love, bold and luck. Since its inception, they’ve sold thousands of boxes. He sees artisan handcrafted chocolates such as the Mood Pills becoming the The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in I 107
next big thing, keeping the popularity of wedding favours in mind. Another pastry chef who has changed the way we view desserts is ex-software engineer, Heena Punwani. Head Pastry Chef at both O’Pedro and The Bombay Canteen, she creates delectable desserts from local produce. She says, "We often run behind blueberry cheesecakes, lemon tarts and other exotic-sounding desserts, forgetting about our local delicacies that can be whipped into desserts easily." The addition of Indian seasonal produce to desserts is an enticing trip or your tastebuds. Consider replacing the classic blueberry cheesecake with Heena’s pink guava cheesecake. She makes this by reducing ripe guava puree with sugar until soft, chewy and fudgy. It is paired Image Source -Heena Punwani
with a pistachio guava cheese macaron, green lime and pink guava compote, caramelized guava and pistachios and chunks of guava cheese sprinkled all over. Each bite of this dessert will take you closer to Christmas!

A dessert that deserves to be served at every wedding is the "Gulab Nut". It’s a tipsy spin on the Gulab jamun and it is mouthwateringly-yum. Gulab nut is a doughnut-shaped Gulab jamun soaked in a rum rich sugar syrup topped with creamy pistachio filling. Even the stubborn oldies will fall in love with this dessert While the entire world is consumed by the fitness wave, we Indians are looking for ways to give in to our sweet tooth and balancing the sugar at the same time. “The world has undergone a drastic perspective change as a result of which a large percentage of people have switched from full fat,

sugar and carb-loaded desserts to health-conscious choices. Indians now look for gluten-free, vegan, fatfree labels on their desserts,” says Gitika Jagasia, a home baker and IIN certified health coach. Gitika makes sugar and gluten-free baked goodies, often adding avocado chocolate mousse to her desserts. Talking about wedding trends, she says, “If I had to pick one, it would be Mithai Tarts. Mithais like sev barfi, Mohanthal or Kaju barfi are baked in pies. We are now working on making them gluten-free and refined sugar-free/ completely sugar-free. We know that the Indian audience is ready to witness their beloved sugary mithais in a healthier form.” Weddings are not exactly the right place for guilt-free indulgence, but the introduction of healthy desserts can be a good start. After stuffing your face with calories, a sugar-free dessert will be a much-needed relief.

They say people only remember three things about a wedding- the bride’s lehenga, how late the baraat was and the food. The lehenga and punctuality of the baraat are questionable, so make sure the food is appetizing! While you are at it, don’t forget to keep up with the ongoing food trends and to add some unique desserts to the buffet. Bridal Trousseau Trunks: All Questions Answered Written By Ashita Ahuja
"I remember how excited my mother and my sister were while packing my bridal trousseau. They put so much thought and care into making it both aesthetically appealing and organised. My trousseau was a mix of trunks, pouches, and boxes- this made it easier and more hassle-free for me. My in-laws were extremely impressed with the way the trousseau trunks were decorated, with motifs portraying the Rajasthani culture and folklore. To date, I have kept most of the trunks and boxes, as they help me preserve my jewellery and accessories.", says Divya Chhakar, a real bride.
The wedding preparations have most brides ridden with stress related to a thousand things. With all the items on your checklist ticked and tucked away, it is time to scout for suitable trousseau trunks to put store all your essentials and carry them to your new home. Considered an old concept once upon a time, trousseau trunks have become more urbane, revolving around sentimental values while being deeply rooted in tradition. The central idea behind a bridal trousseau is to make the gifts for memorable for a bride and keeping up the age-old ritual. A tradition that commenced centuries ago, every bride was made to collect or someone in her family collected for her an array of items that she would then have to carry to her future home, post her

post her nuptials. The word ‘trousseau’ is derived from the French word, ‘trousse’, that means to wrap or bundle. The main idea behind having a trousseau was a symbol that showed off how much wealth the bride’s family possessed, speaking volumes of her status. In earlier times, a bride’s trousseau did not only comprise of clothes, lingerie, jewellery, accessories, footwear, and personal care items; it also included bedding, table cloths, quilts, silverware, crockery, cushions, and the like. 112 I The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in

These days, most millennial brides do not only lay emphasis on what they are putting inside the trousseau trunks, in fact, they also pay detailed attention to design, size, and aesthetic appeal of the trunks themselves. From trunks and boxes covered with zari work, brocade, and shimmery borders, to the customised ones with the bride’s portraits, there are a plethora of choices to pick from. To put all the doubts that brides have regarding trousseau trunks to rest, here is a detailed account including trends, expert tips, and more… When it comes to what brides are looking for in an ideal trousseau trunk, Shagun Bawa from Pataaree says, and I quote,
Picking the Right Trousseau Trunk

“It is a mix of functionality and aesthetics. Brides always come looking for a trunk that matches their trousseau colours and something that they can use to store their lehenga in.” Brides primarily lookout for something that is a combination of convenient, hassle-free, and beautiful. Usually, brides demand a separate smaller trunk dedicated only to their lehenga and a bigger trunk for the rest of their entire bridal collection. “Brides look for something timeless, unique, something that stays with them for long. Rich textiles and embroideries work extremely well with brides,” says Puneet Gupta invitations.
What is the Right Number? Speaking of the average number of trousseau trunks a millennial bride needs - most brides opt for three to four trunks- one trunk undeniably for their wedding lehenga and two or three for storing other clothing and accessories.

Tips 1. Keep scented sachets in your trousseau, to ensure that all items smell fresh 2. If you have selected a particular colour palette or theme for your wedding, it is best that your trousseau trunks also complement them 3. Other then the trousseau bags, you could also use elements like decorative thaals and trays to pack smaller items. This will add an authentic touch to the overall trousseau packing 4. Less is more. Do not go completely overboard with the decoration

Financial Matrimony for Newlyweds Written by Neharika Advani The saying “for better or for worse, for richer or poorer” is quite romantic to hear but when it comes down to a sensitive topic like money, all hell breaks loose. After the initial euphoria wears off, couples often find themselves in a soup. Disagreements over finances are not new with some even leading to sour relationships. While discussing the ‘Green Gandhi’ is not romantic, it is absolutely necessary. You want to take care of such topics before you step into the sacred waters of marriage. Adjusting to a new life pattern takes some time. You and your partner will have different spending/ saving habits. But this need not become the polemic of your married life. “Couples must understand the financial responsibilities, priorities, and preferences of each other,” says Akruti Agarwal Iyer, a Business Development Executive at Wealth Cafe. Saving is a big part of the process. You don’t want to wake up one day to realise that the ship has sunk and all you can do is salvage the scraps.
Managing finances as a new couple can be a task. The best way to tackle the situation is to discuss everything with your partner beforehand. Lay all your cards on the table, discuss the nitty-gritty and if possible, seek advice from a financial guru. “Twenty-four years ago when my wife and I got married, we were not financially stable. We were young and naive and did not understand the gravity of the situation. My only advice to new couples is to be financially sound before you tie the knot. It will save you from stress and wrinkles!” says Ravi Advani, a practising stockbroker for 20 years. A lot has changed since the 90’s- financial advice is readily available and methods of saving and investing have increased. To break it down and simplify finances, we spoke to Wealth Cafe Financial Advisors to get a better understanding of savings and investments. Akruti Agarwal Iyer, a chartered accountant with over six years of work experience in the big 4 consulting firms helped us. Ms Iyer conducts workshops under her company Wealth Cafe Financial Advisors for young millennials, women & couples to help them make smarter financial decisions and manage their money better.
1. What are the financial challenges that newly married couples face?
2. Why should couples invest instead of letting the money sit idle?
Not communicating about finances is a big concern for couples. It’s a general tendency to not discuss finances but this should change. I would advise them to have an open discussion about their expenses and
Your financial responsibilities are only going to increase after you get married and things are not getting any cheaper. If one wants to buy that house, go for that long vacation, take a sabbatical or plan

a family, one has to invest the idle money. One way to start investing is that every time one receives cash gifts, they shouldn’t spend it but save and invest it. This could be a great way to start managing money.
Wealth Cafe Advice After your marriage, wait for 6 months to understand each other’s priorities and then start your financial plans. Also, keep in mind that it would easily take 8 months to a year to put your finances properly together 116 I The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in
3. What are the different types of investments? Before discussing different types of investments, it is very important to know the financial goals. Couples should sit together and have that conversation about their combined and individual financial goals as that will determine where will one invest and how much. Short term goals (with tenure up to 5 years) - Invest in debt products like debt Mutual Funds & deposits For Long term goals (with tenure of 7 years and beyond) - Invest in Equity Products like Direct Equity and Equity Mutual Funds.
Wealth Cafe Advice
Your Investments are a function of your goals and also, your risk profile. Do not jump into investments by looking at higher returns, analyze the risk of the same as well. Remember - High Risk = High Returns & Low Risk = Lower Returns. Further, in our workshop - Honey & Money, we discuss exactly how a couple should manage their finances together keeping in mind their future aspirations & goals
4. Tips to help couples manage their finance better Traditionally, when a couple manages their money, one invests and the other spends. This is not the best way to manage money for millennials where both the partners are making good money and have individual financial goals. Both the partners should contribute equal % of their income towards regular expenses and invest individually. This helps in building an individual investment portfolio and is great for tax savings. - Do set up an emergency fund first to ensure none of the investments are hampered due to any financial emergencies. Emergency Fund for a couple should 3 times the monthly expenses. - Review Insurances - increase the sum assured where required. Where one has employer insurance, add partner and in-laws in the same.
Wealth Cafe Advice As per income tax laws, all the wedding gifts received are tax-free. Weddings are a great way to transfer assets (from non-relatives) without any tax implications on the couple

For Wedding Guests, with Love Written by Kajol Vasandani
Making sure there is enough food and the mandap is well-decorated is okay but what are you doing to let guests know you are grateful for their presence? It is essential that you thank guests for taking the time to be there for your beau and you as you two come together to celebrate your love. This takes place in the form of wedding favours and takeaways that are either placed in the venue or at the hotel rooms of the guests (in case of a destination wedding). Take a look at 5 items that you can consider for your summer wedding.
1. Scarves & Sunglasses Scarves and sunglasses are gender neutral gifts that will be much appreciated during a wedding. Not only do they add a modern touch to the outfit that you will be donning, these items will also turn out to be your best friends to shield and protect your eyes and face from the sun’s rays. Preferably, choose light and/or bright colours that reflect heat and will aid in keeping you cool rather than increase your body temperature.
2. Tea
A perfectly brewed cup of tea can prove to be refreshing and energising when you feel your stamina dip during all the wedding shenanigans. Tea infused with aromatic flavours of summer seem befitting and The Hillcart Tales seems to have some exotic and premium options to include in the hamper of wedding favours. “You can choose from a pack of tisane tea like Honey Limon or Magical Mint or go for the Silver Lining, a naturally sweet, rich tea for your luxury-conscious guest. Jasmine Pearl is another blend that is sure to make your guest remember you every time they indulge their taste buds in the cooling elevated scent of jasmine”, says Priya Batra from The Hillcart Tales.
3. Succulents Who doesn’t love a cute potted plant and a source of oxygen placed at their table or window sill? People are becoming more and more conscious about the environment and a couple can contribute by including an eco-friendly summer wedding favour. Cacti, terrarium and other such bonsai plants are great options that you can add in the hamper. What’s more, including some greenery can make the immediate environment much cooler! The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in I 119
4. Energisers
An Indian wedding is power packed and can get exhausting. Even more if it is taking place during the summer. To keep the energy levels high, one needs to resort to remedial measures that help in providing that surge of energy and at the same time, protect your skin from sun’s damage. Talking to Sneha from Skin Project, she says, “The guest will enjoy the wedding so much more if they are in the right frame of mind and their body feels refreshed and healthy as opposed to tired and lethargic. I would pick a favour basket with a twist - instead of giving out a normal basket full of salty, sugary unhealthy snacks, why not make a health and wellness hamper that shows that we care for our guests and want them to be in their most optimum health? A hamper with luxury collagen drink such as skilixir, or a box of refreshing collagen drink mix, with the gleam fizz non-acid vitamin C which is great to feel refreshed after a hard party night out and is non-acidic on your already acidic stomach from the late nights and alcohol.”
5. Soaps & Candles A little aromatherapy for the souls who are soon to be exhausted from all the fun and frolics that went down during the wedding. Candles and soaps can prove quite the useful wedding favours that should be added in a wedding hamper. Fresh scents like watermelon and aloe vera and citrus flavours like lime and orange picked for your handcrafted soaps and candles that guests can enjoy as they wind down at the end of a wedding ceremony. 120 I The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in

Getting your Act ‘Together’: Nutrition & Fitness Guide for Couples Written By Ashita Ahuja The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in I 127
Your wedding is YOUR special day. If you have your doubts regarding why I have emphasised ‘YOUR’ (well, I did it again), it is because factually it is the most or one of the most important days in your life. As a bride or groom, your wedding should be done your way (mostly). This means you can get to choose the venue, the theme, the outfits, and most essentially your look! No one gets to dictate whether you are looking too fat or too thin (excluding the nosy aunties and uncles). Jokes apart, whether you are happy with the way you look or whether you are striving to achieve that washboard stomach, no one is judging you. I mean, ladies, if you want to fit into something and flaunt your flat tummy, go for it. The same goes for the grooms. If you don’t want your sherwani to get stuck around your flab, -you have to work for it. Chalking out a whole new diet plan and fitness routine can be intimidating, especially when you are juggling the many wedding planning preparations. Not to forget the sudden stress-induced sweet cravings and erratic hunger pangs. However, if you want to avoid unnecessary weight gain, it is best to keep at it. Here are some tips to help you through:

1. Drink Wisely Hydration is very important for good health. Besides the countless health benefits it has, it also helps in keeping the skin supple and glowing. Shilpa Joshi, RD, Consultant dietitian and diabetes educator says and I quote,"Hydration is very important in health." It is essential that brides and grooms drink lots of water, preferably infused with mint/coriander/cucumber. This is especially true in the case of Indian weddings, wherein thirst is minimal and people don’t pay too much attention to keeping themselves hydrated. Carbonated beverages like sodas and cold drinks, caffeinated hot and cold drinks, and fruit juices should be avoided. It is advisable to consume chaas (buttermilk without salt and sugar), ginger water, and dal soups.
2. Complete No-no Junk food is something that brides and grooms should strike out of their diet completely, at least three to six months prior to their wedding. It is time to bid those wafers, chocolates, burgers, and pizzas adieu. There are also a variety of foods that you may consume daily, without realising how they are responsible for adding the extra kilograms to your weight. Avoid potatoes, white bread, and pasta from your diet. Also, it is advisable to cut out on sugar in your tea or coffee.
The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in I 129
3. Try the Alternatives When the wedding day draws closer, most brides and grooms begin mourning about how they will miss eating tasty food and how they cannot wait to gorge on good food right after their D-day. However, if you were to find tasty yet healthy alternatives to food, your health plan will be less stressful and you won’t end up giving up on it on account of the fact that you have to eat food that tastes horrible. You could include makhanas (fox nuts), granola bars, trail mixes, nuts, oats, sprouts, and dark chocolates to your diet.
5. Sound Sleep
4. Simple Workout Working out and simple exercises are an important part of your fitness plan. Although diet plays a crucial role, exercising is essential. If you are someone who has a sedentary lifestyle and spends most of the day in front of your laptop screen, it is best to start with simpler exercises like brisk walks, running or working out in the gym for 30 minutes. If you want you could also consider Surya namaskar. The best way to incorporate exercise into your daily routine is if you enjoy it. For example, you could opt for Zumba classes, dancing or swimming. 130 I The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in
Sleep is extremely essential and plays a vital role in maintaining physical and mental health and ultimately the quality of life. To this Shilpa Joshi adds, "Sleep is very important in maintaining weight, emotional health and a healthy glow. It is imperative that they get 6-8 hours of sleep every night."
DIY Skincare Masks Written By Neharika Advani
The Wedding Trunk by Weddingz.in I 131
“Every time I walked into a salon to ask for bridal makeup packages, people tried to sell a lot of beauty products. Do this, do that and what not! I was very tempted too. While I did take a beauty package, I got back to eating healthy, doing Yoga and meditation. And I made a happy bride because I was healthy!” - Kresha Kohli, read bride.
If fairness creams have taught us anything, it is not to believe in the scams and gimmicks that they sell us. Throughout my adolescent years, my mother would run behind me with haldi dudh and various homemade masks, all in the name of ‘Kareena Kapoor wali skin’. I am sure your nanima has told you all about her glowing youth, which she preserved by using homemade ubtan, milk, papaya, and what not! When it comes to the skin; colour, no bar, healthy and glowing skin matters more than anything else. Well, ladies listen up and pamper yourself with home-spa day, slather homemade mask and relax while you sip on some margaritas!
Sensitive Skin Don’t think you have sensitive skin just because one particular product resulted in breakouts. It’s sensitive only when the issue is persistent that too with various products. If your skin flushes regularly, stings every time you use a product and reacts strongly to a product that has a strong fragrance, then my dear, you have sensitive skin. However, don’t worry, there are tons of homemade remedies for sensitive skin that won’t make you cry!
Tips Take steam at least twice a week. This will open up the pores and improve the cleansing process Apply the face pack at least twice-thrice a week Apply the mask on a clean face. Wash your face (without the soap/cleansers) thoroughly before applying the mask Pat dry your face. Please ensure you use a different towel for body and face! Follow a skincare routine and follow it regularly

Lemon & Milk
Carrot & Honey Ingredients: Cooked carrot and 2 tbsp honey. Direction: Blend the cooked carrots and honey into a fine paste. Apply an even layer on your face and let it sit for 15 minutes. Wash it off with normal water and pat dry. Benefits: It helps in achieving glowing skin, get rid of acne, and spots.
Banana, Egg White & Honey Ingredients: A banana, 1 egg white, and 1 tbsp honey. Direction: Mash the banana into a fine paste. Beat an egg white and honey in a separate bowl. Incorporate this mixture with the mashed banana- one spoon at a time. Mix well, make sure there are no lumps. Apply an even layer on your face and let it sit for 20 minutes. Benefits: The egg whites help to cleanse the skin and tighten pores while the banana helps in maintaining the natural glow. The honey acts as a carrier for the two.
Oily Skin 1 in every 4 women has oily skin. Oily skin can be quite annoying as it easily attracts dirt and grime. It often leads to acne and breakouts and greasy lines. These two homemade masks should help you to overcome the issue!
Ingredients: 1 tbsp milk and a few drops of lemon. Direction: Mix a tablespoon of milk with a few drops of lemon. Apply this mixture with a cotton ball & wash it off after 5-6 months. Benefits: Lemon and milk act as cleansers for your skin. Lemon reduces the oil, while milk helps to achieve a glowing moisturised skin.
Dry Skin Dry skin is a common condition due to lack of moisture. Flakiness and dry patchiness make your skin look dull and lifeless. Winter brides, you have to watch out for dry skin.
Aloe Vera Gel & Cucumbers Ingredients: 1 tbsp aloe vera gel and a cucumber. Direction: Grate the cucumber and squeeze out the juice from it. Mix the juice with a tablespoon of aloe vera gel to make a paste of medium consistency. Wash it off after 10 minutes with lukewarm water. Benefits: Aloe vera cleans, hydrates, and heals the skin. Cucumber is a cooling agent that has cleansing properties.
Tomato Mask
Shea Butter and Coconut Oil
Ingredients: Half a tomato. Direction: Grate half of the tomato and squeeze out the juice. Dab the tomato juice on your face with the help of a cotton ball. Leave for 10 minutes and wash off with lukewarm water. Benefits: Tomato is a superfruit that reduces blemishes, controls oil secretion, acne, and tan.
Ingredients: 1 tbsp of coconut oil and shea butter. Direction: Heat some coconut oil and shea butter in the double boiler method. Do not apply the piping hot mixture on your face! Let it cool down considerably. Wash it off after 15 minutes with lukewarm water. Benefits: This super combination of shea butter and coconut milk hydrates, softens, and even outs skin tone.
