Membership and New Club Development Month PUTTING THE WHEEL IN MOTION. May I extend my thanks to all the members who volunteered to cook, present and serve a wonderful meal for the carers and patients at Cancer Care West Lodge on Wednesday evening. Judging from the comments everyone enjoyed a delicious and varied menu. We have reached a stage in the life of our Rotary Club when we must take up the challenge of change. If we do not do so our Club will not grow, or in fact even sustain itself. Therefore a change in our approach to a number of our traditions may be necessary. This Monday evening, August 24 our Club Board has organised a gathering of current club members, together with local people who may have similar community aspirations to our Rotary organisation. At this gathering our club members will have the opportunity to present information on a number of projects completed by our Club over previous years. They will also have the opportunity to discuss possible new projects which new and enthusiastic community members may bring with them. We believe by such a gathering our Club may have the privilege to introduce new people to Rotary and it's many areas of service. If we have sufficient interest at this first gathering on Monday evening we will seek a further similar gathering in September and October. Please note there will NOT be a lunchtime meeting of our Club on Monday, August 24. The evening gathering from 5.30 p.m. will take the place of the regular meeting. The gathering will be held at Duntryleague but the bistro and dining room do not open on a Monday evening. However, drinks from the bar, tea and coffee will be available and our Club will provide light nibbles for those attending. The support of all our members would be greatly valued. See you on Monday evening. Peter. \"DON'T LET THOSE THAT SAY IT CAN'T BE DONE GET IN THE WAY OF THOSE THAT ARE DOING IT\"

IAN RISELEY 2017-18 ROTARY INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT Ian Riseley, an Australian accountant and member of the Rotary Club of Sandringham, is selected as the 2017-18 Rotary president. Ian H.S. Riseley, of the Rotary Club of Sandringham, Victoria, Australia, is the selection of the Nominating Committee for President of Rotary International in 2017-18. He will become the president-nominee on 1 October if no other candidates challenge him. Riseley says that meaningful partnerships with corporations and other organizations are crucial to Rotary’s future. “We have the programs and personnel and others have available resources,” says Riseley. “Doing good in the world is everyone’s goal. We must learn from the experience of the polio eradication program to maximize our public awareness exposure for future partnerships.” Riseley is a practicing accountant and principal of Ian Riseley and Co., which specializes in advising local and international businesses, and has a strong interest in international affairs. He received the AusAID Peace builder Award from the Australian government in 2002 in recognition of his work in Timor-Leste. He also received the Order of Australia medal in 2006 for service to the Australian community. “Governments see Rotary as positive representatives of a civil society,” he says. “We should work with them to advocate for peace and conflict resolution, just as we are advocating for polio eradication.” A member since 1978, Riseley has served Rotary as treasurer, director, trustee, RI Board Executive Committee member, task force member, committee member and chair, and district governor. He is also a former member of the Australian Polio Eradication Private Sector Campaign and a recipient of The Rotary Foundation’s Service Award for a Polio-Free World. He and his wife, Juliet, are Multiple Paul Harris Fellows, Major Donors, and Bequest Society members.

LAST WEEK'S MEETING On Monday night in lieu of our lunchtime meeting members and guests enjoyed a lovely three course meal served by the students at Orange TAFE College Hospitality Course. The popular choices from the menu were Crumbed Chicken or Scallops for entree, Chicken or Poached Barramundi for main (no one went the Kangaroo?) and Berry Crumble, Chocolate Fondant or Chocolate Mousse. President Peter thanked the students and the Course Coordinator for their efficient and friendly service and wished them all the best for their future in hospitality. Diary Reminders: Carewest Lodge Dinner Evening Wednesday 19th Guest Invitation Evening Meeting 24th August from 5:30 onwards District Governors Visit 7th September Partners Invited

Membership Fees Now Due Members are reminded that Club Membership Fees are now due Payment can be by Cash Cheque or EFT direct to the club account Rotary Club of Orange Calare General Account 032833 Acc 358820 Westpac Orange BSB $135 per half year ($270 per year) Centurion $100 (optional) Just $100 can make a huge difference There are few of us who don’t recognise the value the Foundation brings to Rotary and the world by means of our educational and humanitarian programs. Rotary clubs across Australia are very supportive of the Rotary Foundation but personal giving has not, until recently, been a significant part of the average Rotarian’s thinking. The Centurion program is the Australian program that helps individuals to actively support the great work the Foundation does. It gives Rotarians, friends and family, an opportunity for individual giving of a tax deductable donation of $100 for as long as you choose. Yes, the Centurion Plan allows Rotarians to claim a donation to the Foundation as a tax deduction. You will receive a receipt from the Australian Rotary Foundation Trust. And you make an annual decision whether you can continue to support the program.. It’s amazing what your $100 (the cost of just one cup of coffee a fortnight) can achieve. What happens to the money? Your contribution becomes part of the District Annual Giving Program which means half your $100 comes back to support District Foundation programs that support our clubs. It also counts towards a Paul Harris Fellowship. New Centurions receive a Centurion badge when they join and renewal reminders are sent out at the start of the new financial year. You can join at any time. You can get an application form to join or renew your membership from the Club’s Foundation Director Janet Sprigge or copy and paste the link to your browser and print a form http://www.clubrunner.ca/Data/9700//HTML/137939//CenturionMembershipForm.pdf
