THE TRADITIONAL GAMES We all now in the path of the future for the upcoming technology, and before it all happened everything are not in wonder anymore. People and the citizen could expect more from the technology advance, but despite from this massive changes , the tradition and the traditional from the culture could be extinct by the replaced of the modern creation. As to flashbacks and remind back from the past, every culture has its own traditional games that are used to be everyone’s favorite. However it seems that during these days the games are become more upgrade in each year, the games are now have been clarified as an online games and several kids and teenagers whom are blindly into the online games are hardly spending their time for an outdoor games and activity just like the old days. This is the reason why as to remain the tradition, we need to carried the responsibility in presenting and introducing the legendary traditional games towards anyone so they can understand and respect the traditional games. The affection of the modern gaming technology are expanding widely, which it is also effected some universities student whom seems to forget and even have no idea of Malaysia traditional games. This is where we take part for it, As a team of student of Uitm Puncak Perdana from the faculty of Information Management we would like to share and spread the knowledge of the forgotten and “unknown traditional games” to the all of the people in hoped that the tradition will remain until forever and another decade more it is still in the hearts of Malaysian.

Batu Seremban i s a game that is played with five stones. Batu seremban is a game that involves at least 2 players or more. Then, this game is usually played at home, in a park or anywhere clean during their leisure time. As they find the perfect spot, they will sit on the floor in a circle and play in turns.

History of Batu Seremban Seremban refers to the West coast of Malaysia where the game was taken to Singapore, while on the East coast of Malaysia, the game is known as Batu Seremban. In the past, players used to replace sandboxes or pyramid-shaped rice today with real stones or grains. The five-stone game is believed to have originated in Ancient Asia, during the Troy Siege in 1184 BC. Played seated, a game involving a complete set of eight steps is said to enhance vision, memory, and focus.

How to Play Batu Seremban In Batu Seremban game, there are several levels or different ways of celebration. The game will start with a simple first stage, in which a piece of fruit called a used, up to a more difficult level or top level of seven named.

• Fruit One All fruits should be dispersed, put in all the fruit is not touching one another. A fruit will be the mother, and the mother had to be tossed into the air. At the same time, a fruit on the floor should be collected. Such behaviour will continue until all the fruit on the floor already collected.

• Fruit Two Two ways of play is the same as the fruit one. Only two pieces of fruit should be harvested in the same time. This means that the mother will toss two times.

• Fruit Three Fruit three little difference. On the first toss, just one seeds will be collected. Toss the two, three seeds will be collected simultaneously.

• Fruit Four Fruit mother would toss into the air. At the same time, the player must collect all four pieces of fruit that are on the floor together .

• Fruits Five Fruit of the five will be played as four. Players must toss of mother-to-air and collect the four pieces of fruit on the floor simultaneously. After that, of the mother should be tossed into the air and at the same time, four pieces of fruit that is in the player's hand must be placed on the floor so that only the mother of the only ones who will be welcomed.

• Fruit Six In the sixth stage, the players are slightly different opinion. At this stage, the player will get two pieces of fruit that will be of the mother. When a piece of it is tossed into the air, another piece of the mother should be exchanged with other fruits found on the floor to finish.

• Fruit Seven Fruit is a sequence of seven of six. Two pieces of fruit that is in the hand should be tossed simultaneously. After that, only one of which will be collected seeds. Fruit mother should be celebrated with both hands. One in the left hand, and another on his right hand. In the end, the mother of the latter will also be celebrated tossed.

Congkak is one of the most popular traditional games in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei and parts of Sumatra and Borneo. Pleasure is considered a game played for girls. Now, anyone can play it. It’s fun to have two players sitting in front of each other. The board is made of wood and its sides are carved into various shapes and sizes. The name is derived from the Malay word supercilious “mental” meaning mental arithmetic. Basically, that’s how this game works. It’s all about mental calculation. One of the easy tricks to win this game is that you have to count on the next step mentally and this will give you the added advantage of earning points and winning the game. In addition, the smooth hands are one of the main factors in winning the game.

History of Congkak The oldest mancala game that was found in an abandoned castle of Roman Egypt and back to the 4th Century AD. This game was likely introduced to Southeast Asia by Indian or Arab traders in 15th century. It was spread all over Malay world through the dealers via Malacca where at that time the trading post is very important. Early years back then, it was thought that the game was for the king and family residents only. But then, it was spread to the general population if the kingdom later on. Other than Malays, the Indian Peranakan also loves this traditional game.

The Objectives of Playing Congkak: The objectives of playing congkak is to get rid of all the seeds by moving them across over your enemy while placing each of your seed or marbles into your own house or pit. The games end where the winner either the one with the most seeds in his or her house or the first to empty his row of holes.

How to Play Congkak 1. The congkak board consists of two rows of 7 holes called the 'houses' and two bigger holes called the 'storehouse'. 2. Before the game starts the 'houses' are filled with seven congkak seeds each while the 'storehouses' are left empty. 3. Both players begin simultaneously by scooping up all the shells in any house on their side. Each drops a shell into the next 'house' and continues clockwise depositing one shell into every house thereafter. A player drops a shell into his 'storehouse' each time he passes it but does not deposit any into his opponent's 'storehouse'. 4. How the game continues, depends on where the last shell of each scoop is deposited. • IF THE SHELL DROPS INTO THE PLAYER'S OWN 'STOREHOUSE': The player scoops up the shells from any of his 'houses' and distributes them in the cups ('houses') round the board but not in his opponents's 'storehouse'.

IF THE SHELL DROPS INTO A 'HOUSE' (on either side of the board) CONTAINING SHELLS: The player scoops up all the shells in that 'house' and continues distributing them as described above.

• IF THE SHELL DROPS INTO THE PLAYER'S 'HOUSE' WHICH IS WITHOUT SHELLS: The player is entitled to collect the shells in his opponent's 'house' directly opposite his own. These shells collected from his opponent's house together with his last shell are deposited in his own 'storehouse'. If the opponent's 'house' opposite his own is empty, he deposits only his last shell in his own 'storehouse'. He forfeits his turn and stops playing. It is the opponent's turn now to distribute the shells. • IF THE SHELL DROPS INTO AN EMPTY 'HOUSE' BELONGING TO THE OPPONENT: The player forfeits his turn and stops playing. He also forfeits his shell and leaves it in the opponent's 'house'. It is the opponent's turn now to distribute the shells 5. The first round ends when a player has no more shells on his

The gasing or top spinning is usually made of wood or hard fruit, iron and lead. One of those huge top from Kelantan actually weights about 4 to 5 kilograms while a smaller top is about 0.1 to 0.5 kilograms. Gasing or top spinning is split into two categories. One is for irnamental purposes and while the other is for playing.

History of Gasing Gasing is a popular traditional games among Malaysian people, especially in Melaka and Kelantan. Each season after the rice harvest, several villagers will come together to challenge each other in an ultimate test of skill. The villagers believed that the spinning tops would help bring good harvest. It can be played by adult and children. Gasing has two size which is big and small size. But bigger or giant top spinning is more of a games for adult than children. The one used by adults are much bigger in size and can spin for a period of time whereas the one played by kids are much smaller. There is no fixed number of players and the game can be played either in teams or individually. A circle has to be drawn on the ground for the circumstances within which is the longest to spin.

How to Play Gasing STEP 1 A circle is first drawn on the ground marking the circumstances within which the top is to spin.

STEP 2 A player holds the top in his hand and grips the loose end of the string between the fingers and throws the top in the circle while at the same time pulls the string backwards which sends the top into a spinning action.

Rules 1. The top must be spinning in the particular area, if the top spins out of it, the player will be automatically disqualified. 2. The one who’s top spins the longest and within the specified circle becomes the winner. 3. Once the top spins out the circle, the player loses the game.

Galah Panjang which also known as Runner and Tagger is one of the famous Malaysian traditional games and usually played by children. This game does not required any equipment. It is not an individual games. Furthermore, it requires two separated teams of attackers and defenders. This game consist of not less than four people. Each player is required to run past all defending lines from the first line to the last and run back towards the first line without any physical contact with the opposing team. If any member of the opposing team manages to touch any player, the player is considered dead and out of the game.

History of Galah Panjang Galah Panjang is a game traditionally played on a court drawn on the vacant land. Tennis made containing two columns and several rows depending on the number of players. Long pole ring is made according to the number of players playing long pole. For example, if there are 10 players, tennis made consists of four lines. If the number of eight players, tennis long pole consists of three lines. The game involves the expertise of a chief or capital to control movement on behalf of the children of the control field. While the efficiency and speed tested to the ring to face. If the court has the discretion to face to face the court, then they can win easily.

How to Play Galah Panjang 1. Tennis long pole in sketch above ground space. The length and width depending on the painter line and the number of players. Often a long pole box measuring approximately 2 meters x 1.5 meters. 2. After a selection is made, each group will perform the selection head. Chief of these two groups will vote who care and who are the tennis courts. 3. After the determination, the group in charge of the court will keep the ring with treads upon lines drawn earlier. Chief will keep the centre line and free go to any front or rear lines. 4. Group attack will gather in front of the ring, the next chief will touch hands with opponent’s head. Next, run to finish their entry into the ring. 5. Guardians will keep an area not exceeding facer guarded line. 6. Facer will cover most end up crossing the line without being touched by the keeper ring and then turned back. 7. Victory is achieved when people who have crossed the line beyond the end of the start line and the game continues until there are players who want to quit.

Rules 1. All the players will be considered off the attacking team if one of them is touched by a player defending team. 2. Attacking team player cannot retreat back after crossing the line ring, it is assumed dead will cause change of teams. 3. Attacking team assumed dead there are players out of the field lines. 4. Calculated the attacking team wins if one of his players to pass through all the lines to return to the starting line. One point is awarded to the team and the game will be re-activated. 5. Any team that can accumulate the highest points will be considered to win the match.

Ceper also the traditional games that are in Malaysia.This game was played by kids of old because they did not have any games like today. This game also known as 'jentik tutup botol', 'tutup oren', or 'kempyeng' .

History of Ceper This game uses bottle caps. Additionally, these bottle caps are taken from soy sauce bottles or any bottles that use steel bottle caps. This game consists of two players or more and 5 pieces of bottle caps are used in a game. All the information that is related to the traditional games can be put on the digital library as the item that can be the strength for the library. Ceper is the popular games around 1970-1980. It is one of the traditional games often played in the children. The way to play the game is determined by counting the number of successful ceper available during the weighing ceper. 28

How to Play Ceper STEP 1 Each person will lob Ceper (one piece of ceper will consider to 2 points). Players with a higher point will start first. Ceper must be overlapping (vertical) and placed on the other hand. STEP 2 The all the ceper was measles on the floor. Another team will choose which ceper to be flipped. If the overlapping (two), is called "chicken". While if the ceper overlapping (three) it is called 'jamban", and overlapping (four) called "flowers". STEP 3 Winners will be determined by the total number that players get. .

Rules 1. This game needs five steel caps or ‘ceper’. Please press a little to make the steel caps easier to lob. 2. This game needs more players to make this game more exciting and interesting. 3. Player determines the rotation by lob action. The players who lob the caps and get big number of caps get the advantage to start the game. 4. Player will spin the ceper to play. Make sure each piece of ceper is not overlap. 5. If the allocation meets the criteria of the rule, the game can be continue with take one of the ceper which are scattered. 6. If chosen have been made, the other player need to decide which ceper should be flipped. 7. If the player success, player need to lob the ceper to get point. Each player need to remember his own point and if the player cheating about his point, his point consider zero. Normally, this game need supporter to remember their point from any carelessness. 8. Player needs to collect their point according to the condition. The criteria of stack that unbalance the point • Ayam: ceper overlapping two. • Jamban: ceper overlapping three. • Hujan/Ribut/Taufan: when someone bother other players.
