Doti and Bink Go On An Adventure

Doti and Bink were two tiny mice who lived with their family in a hole under a large oak tree. 

They were brother and sister. Doti liked to sing, dance, and dress up. Bink liked to jump, run and tumble.

One day Doti and Bink decided to leave their home under the oak tree and explore. Their mother told them to be careful and watch out for dogs and cats, especially cats!

When they got outside, they looked around to see if there were any dogs or cats. they saw nothing.  

The coast was clear. It was safe to keep on walking. Soon they passed a large house.

“Look what someone put outside” exclaimed Bink. “Its a small table” he said to Doti. “Let’s climb to the top and look around.”  “OK, but first let's look around to see if there are cats nearby,” said Doti. 

They looked around but did not see any cats. “I guess it’s safe to climb to the top” said Doti. So, the pair climbed on the leg of the table and quickly reached the top. 

“Oh me, oh my” sighed Doti. “It’s dirty – its covered with dust and grease. We can't play on top unless we clean it.”  

“Then let’s clean it. It won’t take long if we both do it” exclaimed Bink. 

“There's a garden faucet that's leaking water. We can use the water to wash the tabletop” said Bink. “Good idea” said Doti.”

So, the pair of tiny mice ran home to get a pail and scrubbing brushes.

Soon, the mice were back on the tabletop, busily washing and scrubbing away all the dust and grease.  “There! We did it.” said Doti. “Now we can play!”

The mice ran back home and put away the pail and the scrubbing brushes.  Next, Doti put on her dancing shoes and her dancing skirt, which is called a “tutu.” Meanwhile, Bink put on his gym shorts and sneakers. They were ready to play and have fun.

. Back they ran to the table, climbed up to the top, and began to have fun. Doti danced and sang. Bink did handstands and backflips. What a good time the two little mice were having!

Suddenly, they both stopped. Something was wrong.

What could it be? They looked over the edge of the table. They saw nothing. Next, they look to the right and the left. They saw nothing wrong. But when they looked up, they saw a big cat with sharp white teeth standing over them!  

The cat was licking his lips. His stomach was rumbling. He was very hungry!! Then the cat said “What delicious looking mice. I think I'll eat them for my lunch.”

“Did you hear what that cat said?” cried Bink, who was scared. “Yes.” Doti said quietly so the cat would not hear what she said. “We'd better run away.” Down the leg of the table the two mice went.

They ran home as fast as their little legs could carry them. Finally, safe at home, they told their mother what had happened. “Next time,” their mother warned them, “one of you should keep watch while the other one plays.”
