Could I be an eSport Player?
BY ALEC TRAN When one first hears about eSports, they think of the stereotypical angry fat nerd on the couch, that screams "Mom I want another hot pocket!" while raging at the television.
The answer, is surprisingly hard. Imagine competing with million of other players, and only the top few hundred can make a living off being the best.
Soon after, they learn about the lucrative money that eSports offers along with the possibility of becoming a full-time video game player.
This may seem like an exaggeration, but the reality is that in every game, only a few games and a few players can prosper in the eSports environment. Alongside with this, eSports players commit a massive amount of time to practicing. According to the Business Insider 2015, the average eSports player spends 12 to 14 hours a day practicing their craft.
Sign me up! I get good money along with being able to play games all day? How hard could it be to be an eSports player?

SHOULD ESPORTS BE CONSIDERED SPORTS? By Alec Tran
YES. To start this off, I have a background in playing video games. This might seem a bit obvious, but one of my greatest passions lies in playing games. As a personal experience, I clearly remember the first day that I got a dose of "eSports". In 2013, the Season 3 Worlds Championship for League of Legends was playing, and I was completely enamored with what as happening on the screen. I had no idea which team was which or what each organization represented, all I knew is that what was happening on the screen was exciting. I personally have some experience in eSports, whereas I've been playing for the University of Utah's Varsity League of Legends team for the past two years. I can say without a doubt, that i have not regretted a single minute ever since I've joined the team. We practice on average for over 20 hours a week, but the feeling that you're developing as a player and as an individual, is a feeling like none other. The difference between sports and eSports lies purely in the aspect of physical activity. Even so, the requirement of physical activity shouldn't be mandatory for an activity to be considered a sport. An example is Chess, which is recognized by the Olympic Commitee as a sport although it doesn't possess any physical activity. However, something to note is that eSports players are creating a new generation of spectators, who simply want to watch these gamers rise to combat traditional sports. After all, as the world becomes more digitalized, more and more people will join the side of eSports. Now, I’m not trying to deny the value of traditional sports, but request that everyone should acknowledge that eSports isn’t simply a trend that will fade away, but a new exciting sport that comes with the transition to a more digital era.
