EUROFILTER PRODUCED BY MICRO-MESH The Eurofilter brand of Air Filtration has been established in the global Power Generation market for over 35 years. During this time, it has built a reputation for innovation of air filter technology leading to peak performance. In 2016 the business was acquired by Micro-Mesh, established in 1968 supplying hydraulic filtration products to industrial markets across Europe. Micro-Mesh established itself as a reliable supplier that achieved growth by solving customer concerns and building solid long-term relationships that have stood the test of time. Innovation has been the foundation of the business for the last 50 years. Using this solid foundation, the Eurofilter brand has been integrated into the business and has seen positive results from the innovation and style of the new owners. The response from the existing customers in the Power Generation market has been very positive. Already they have seen products that include additional media options, improved quality of production with innovative processing techniques that ensures product integrity. This activity continues going forward to ensure that the brand provides exceptional value to customers throughout the industry.

SPECIALISED FILTRATION SOLUTIONS The manufacturing development of Micro-Mesh has seen significant growth since its beginning in a quarter of an acre to its current one acre purpose built factory, Innovation House. The acquisition of Eurofilter has seen the completion of both a mezzanine floor within the existing building as well as an extension built which has more than doubled the available floor space.

Our Mould In Place technology provides a continuous seal without any joint, ensuring a perfect sealing surface. It also brings a much wider range of sealing styles and will eventually remove the need of bonded extruded seals.

All batches of media supplied to us are certified with test reports to batch reference our supplier partners. In addition, our in house quality process take a flat sheet sample to test on our in house equipment giving batch to batch consistency.

With nominal 13.6mm and 29.5mm diameters we cover most applications. We can also supply appropriate washer replacements and other specific mounting options are also available.

Achieved using expanded metal mesh, secured by a locking mechanism. Besides spot welding, we also offer a mechanical lock using an additional clip which is pressed into place securing the mesh. This mechanical option is fully compliant with GE Specification TIL 1571.

When specified we can apply hot melt beads to external filter retainers. It is pushed through onto the pleat tips to assist pleat stability during the pulsing cycle of the system.

Steel components are galvanised for corrosion resistance as standard. Specific finishing processes and anti corrosive steels (stainless) are always available to suit specific applications or operating environments.

Each and every filter carries a batch number printed on the end cap as specified. This underpins our traceability process and gives us the ability to trace back the initial raw materials used in the total process (including our suppliers’ processes). Other printed data can also be added if the customer requires.

Our Standard Packaging is individually bagged, tie wrapped complete with silica gel to ensure the filters reach the end user in pristine condition, without any contamination, or moisture ingress.

We ensure that the ends of each pleat is immersed in a two part polyurethane. The specification of the polyurethane guarantees sufficient rise to achieve the immersion depth but also maximises the adhesion to the metal end cap. Our destructive test proves that the media “tears” before the bond breaks.

During to end cap curing process, our filters are held under pressure for a prescribed period. This ensures dimensional accuracy during cuang and also maintains the end cap positions on the cylinder.

FILTER CONSTRUCTION

Construction Eurofilter pleated cartridges are constructed to the highest standards to ensure that they are robust and can withstand the harsh environments to which they are exposed. Metal Components Metal components are designed with a generous safety margin built in, so that there is no possibility of failure of a metal component. All end caps and screens are made from galvanised steel, at least 24 gauge (0.6 mm) thick and checked by a 6 hour salt spray test, to check against the possibility of rusting. Centre tubes are of a thickness such that filter elements cannot be damaged due to over-tightening. Media for reverse pulse pleated filter cartridges It is essential to select a filter media appropriate for the specific environment and the type of dust. The filter media selected must provide at least the level of efficiency required and have suitable surface characteristics for easy dislodgement of the filter cake of the particular dust. The filter medium must also have sufficient tensile and burst strength under the varying conditions on the specific site to withstand the physical stress of pressure shocks due to reverse pulsing. The air passage between the pleats must be maintained either by deep corrugations, dimpling, or some other positive method. To provide additional properties filter paper manufacturers have developed grades with cellulose fibres, synthetic fibres, fibre mixes, acrylic binders, silicone and epoxies which are efficient, strong and provide good dislodgement even in high humidity conditions. The manufacturers of spun bonded media have also produced various grades, such as carbon impregnated, aluminised and P.T.F.E. laminated. Eurofilter works closely with the manufacturers of filter media and is kept up to date on new developments and their advantages. We build cartridges with new media grades and in our laboratory we test different grades of media and record the results of how well they perform. This enables us to check their ability to pleat and production processing as well as efficiency, pressure drop and dislodgement. The information obtained from our production processing, our laboratory tests and from our experience out in the field is all collected and analysed. The total data from all these sources enables us to advise customers on which filter type and media to use in any specific dust application. Filter bands Many pleated cartridges, especially spun bonded, have bands on the outside instead of an outer metal screen. This facilitates the reverse pulsing, particularly of large particles and this construction is very effective in the woodworking, textile and rock drilling industries. It is essential that the bands are strong and cannot break apart under reverse pulsing. Eurofilter uses strong bands of polyester. Bonding The edges of the filter media are bonded into metal parts by a bed of adhesive of at least 4mm deep. This ensures that the edge of every pleat is fully sealed and securely bonded to the metal cap. Our numerically controlled dispensing equipment guarantees the adhesive depth in every cap.

FILTER CONSTRUCTION

Hot melt beads In cases where metal inner and outer screens are used, stabilisation of the overall geometry is achieved by hot melt bonding of pleats to tubes. The filter media is glued to the protective metal tubes by hot melt adhesive beads attached to every pleat, at a pitch of every 127mm (5”) along the length of each pleat. This maintains adequate pleat spacing and air passage between pleats. It also prevents fraying of pleat edges due to rubbing during pulsing. The hot melt beads also create a very robust and rigid structure. Seals Soft seals of closed cell neoprene (or polyurethane) are attached to each filter element so that new gaskets are provided at each filter change. The hardness of the seal is controlled within close limits and checked for recovery after extreme compression at elevated temperatures. The seal is bonded to the end cap with a very strong adhesive and the bond is tested so that the seal cannot come loose in use.

Compliance with GE TIL 1571 GE Compliance Category This document seeks to provide details of Eurofilter ability to comply with the recommendations contained in the GE Energy Services Technical Information Letter (TIL) 1571 document. It indicates that these matters relate only to best practice for maintenance and equipment operation. They are not mandatory. We provide customers with the choice of compliance with these recommendations. Concerns Addressed by GE Welding of the mesh seams on the clean side of the filter It is possible that under certain conditions accelerated corrosion could occur at the point where the mesh has been spot welded. This is a result of the heat created during the weld process destroying the galvanised surface, exposing raw steel to atmosphere. The GE recommendations do not address the possibility of corrosion on the exposed edges of the expanded steel but only on the point of a weld. The galvanise sheet is cut and then expanded creating a surface that is not protected from corrosion. Eurofilter can powder coat the clean side mesh after spot welding to remove all risk of corrosion. GE and other operators who have concerns over this corrosion issue can request this alternative in line with the TIL recommendations to our standard spot welded product. Mechanical Lock Available. Spiral hot melt glue bead on the inner mesh GE are concerned that some filters have been found to have a spiral hot melt glue bead on the inner mesh that has not been fixed, or pushed into the enclosed pleat pack correctly. This presents the risk of hot melt breaking away and being ingested into the engine. Under cold conditions the hot melt adhesive can become very brittle. Eurofilter complies to GE TIL 1571 because it does not apply hot melt glue bead to the inner mesh. We recognise that this is a potential risk for the operator. Accordingly, when hot melt is applied it is either pushed firmly into the pleat pack beneath or blown into the pleat pack. Concerns over the sealing gasket GE identified that filters have been supplied without the sealing gasket required to achieve an airtight seal between the filter and the housing. In some cases the incorrect gasket material had been used. Eurofilter provides a fitted seal on each filter sold. We use continuous seal technology applying a jointless PU seal on the end of each filter. We do not supply filters without the PU seal unless requested or the specification of the filter demands that no seal is required. Each filter is tested to ensure seal adhesion prior to packing Filter Structural strength and media failure GE raised concerns over the construction of the cartridge filters; in that they have to be able to withstand the pressures of normal Gas Turbine operation. Further concerns were highlighted over media failure in wet conditions. In addition, all media specifications are tested for burst conditions in both wet and dry situations and incorporated into our Media Data Sheets. EUROFILTER Air Filters

We have no knowledge of any complaints in relation to mechanical failure of the steel filter assembly in service. Filter media failure due to excessive moisture is easily avoided by using modern blended cellulose/synthetic media, or when required, fully synthetic media. Eurofilter can provide solutions for any conditions to operators. Replacement cycle GE and other OEMs present their guidance for the replacement or expected lifetime of cartridge filters and advise for the continual inspection of all filters and the intake housing as part of the preventative maintenance program. Eurofilter recommends that these procedures are adhered to and filter changes completed in line with the OEM operating procedures.
