Event: Charter Day Gala Date of Event: March 15, 2014 Location: Hyatt Regency, Atlanta, GA Type of Event: Fundraiser Attendance Projected ___220_ Actual ___200___ Members Attendance Projected __50___ Actual __100_____ New Revenue Collected Door $____4,250____Dues $________Donations $ $1,312.34 Report/Evaluation of Event: Our Charter Day Gala was celebrated on Saturday, March 15, 2014. This year we held our event at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Atlanta to give our guest a grand experience. We spent this evening raising awareness for the University’s need to support our school though alumni participation and giving back. Interim President, Dr. Frederick along with Howard University’s Alumni Association President, Chris Washington gave motivational speeches to the alumni in attendance and stressed the importance of alumni involvement. Additionally, HUACA Charter Day Chair, Angela Williams impressed upon the alum that one important way to give back is to financially support the University by providing scholarships to our incoming and continuing students. This year we raised more than $4,500 to add to our 2013-2014 scholarship goal of $20,000. HUACA honored six alumni who have distinguished them in their fields: 1) Visionary Award (The Honorable Mayor Kasim Reed); 2) Education (Tricia Chambers and Vanessa Calhoun, Math is My Friend, Inc. Co-Founders); 3) Medicine (Dr. Karen HarrisMoore, Piedmont Hospital); 4) Business (William “Bill” Taggart, CEO- Atlanta Life Financial Group); 5) Law (Julie M.T. Walker). HUACA, also had a phenomenal list of honorary committee members who helped to promote and sponsor our Gala. Including: 1) Judge Kimberly Esmond Adams; 2) Candace Byrd, Esq.; 3) Kandace Harris; 4) Jaha Howard, D.D.S.; 5) Nicole Evans Jones, Ed.D.; 6) Nancy Flake Johnson; 7) Darren “Chip” Joyner; 8) Sheila Maddox; 9) former State Representative, Randal Mangham, Esq.; 10) Dana Stith-Gray, Esq; and 11) Hank Thomas. Additionally, the Gala served as an evening for local alumni to dress up in black tie attire and meet-up with old classmates that they have not seen in years. We also had the privilege to hear from the Howard University Gospel Choir. They gave a soul stirring performance. We invited several high school students who are considering attending Howard University. Thanks to the donations of sponsors, they attended free of charge. We also invited current Howard University students who were back in Atlanta for their spring break, It was an intergenerational affair!

EVENT RECAP SHEET The feedback we received was that the older Atlanta alumni in particular look forward to our Charter Day Gala, \especially when they are unable to attend the celebration at the University. It helps them to feel connected to their beloved University. Overall, it was a very successful event that not only raised awareness and funds but allowed an atmosphere for our alumni to feel like they were back on Howard’s campus as we concluded the evening with the singing of the alma mater. Was this a successful event? Yes Should we do this event or type of event again? Yes Signed: Karen Shropshire, President HUAC/HUAA

It was another phenomenal event with the 10 teams (40 golfers) participating in the golf tournament, and 26 others participating in the golf clinic. Golf Committee members, volunteers, and sponsors rounded out the participants. Despite the rain, all teams got to complete the course, and clinic participants were also able to complete their lesson. The day started with registration and continental breakfast served prior to the 7:30AM shotgun start. Each tournament participant received a gift bag, golf shirt, and a team photo. Golf Clinic Registration started up at 10AM for an 11AM Golf Clinic Start. Clinic participants received gift cards. Once participants finished the lesson and golfing the course, the convened in the clubhouse for a BBQ Buffet Lunch, while enjoying live band entertainment by the band “Gritz & Jelly Butter” - a very popular band in the Atlanta area. Prizes were raffled. Sponsors were acknowledged throughout the program. Contest and tournament winners were announced and presented with gifts. Although we lost some previous sponsors, we did gain new sponsors and participants, proving our event to be further reaching in the Atlanta community. We even had a few participants who traveled from California and Charlotte, NC. Many of our sponsors and advertisers (in our Ad Brochure) are also HU alumni. Our photographer is a Howard alum who volunteered his services to capture our event. While final numbers are still being confirmed, we are estimating at least $2500 raised for our scholarship fund. Even with rain on a good portion of the event day, we still managed to put on a top notch event, having received numerous favorable comments on the quality of the event and the desire to participate again next year … and a bring a friend! The HBCU Alliance is a group of HBCU Alumni Clubs in the Atlanta area that come together to raise scholarship funds for the individual alumni groups. The Alliance does an excellent job in obtaining corporate sponsorships. This is great way for us to raise scholarship funds for the HUACA scholarship fund. We organized a massive advertising campaign to get HU alum in the Atlanta area to register for this event. This year 102 HU alum signed up for the event (up from 70 participants the year before)! We received approximately $35 for each HU registrant. We raised approximately $400 for our scholarship fund! For the first time we had a HUACA tent where alum gathered after the race for refreshments, fellowship and to sign up to become members! The tent was a big hit! This is one of our most profitable fundraisers. We are gearing up for the 2014 race!

Report/Evaluation of Event: I just started as the Activities Committee Chair and was very excited about this event. I reached out to the Kia Goosby, President of NC A&T Alumni in Atlanta to do a join event. The two alumni clubs planned a football game watch party to view one of the rare televised HU football games (HU vs NC A&T). The turn out was amazing and everyone had a good time. We had door prizes and played a trivia game during half time. There were 85 people in attendance from both schools. We had several Bison alum in attendance that we had not seen at an event in a long time. Bison enjoyed mixing, mingling and talking “stuff” with the NC A&T alum. We definitely hope to do future events like this one. – Nyja Greene, Activities Chair. Was this a successful event? YES Should we do this event or type of event again? The recruiting committee and the HU Georgia Club worked diligently to provide a comprehensive experience of educating students on college life, exploring various majors, and the rich Howard legacy. Prior to the trip we conducted a parent information session to allow parents and students to ask questions. The committee planned two full days of tours of each school and seminars on Admissions, Financial Aid, and Housing. Students received one on one attention with department heads and contact information for future reference. One student had an audition with the School of Fine Arts and got accepted the next day! We pressed the students to be diligent and one of the students followed up on Friday with Financial Aid and was awarded a matching grant! This made the trip worth it. All of the students lived in the dorms with their host students and learned what it was like living on campus.. Finally, Saturday we visited the School of Law campus and toured DC. Upon return to campus that evening the students were treated to a pizza party and an enlightening student panel discussion. The students returned to Atlanta haing formed new friendships and raving about their HU experience! Three ATL alum personally sponsored three young men whose family couldn’t afford the the cost. We intentionally choose 3 young men to receive the bus trip scholarship in light of the low number of men enrolled at alma mater. Was this a successful event?
