There is a question on everyone's mind about the 2016 US elections. That is: "For the first time in 240 years, will the US really have a woman president?" By nominating Hillary as its presidential candidate, the Democratic Party has written a page in history as the first female presidential candidate of a major political party, win or lose.

According to a report by Taiwan's Central News Agency on 27 July 2016, the atmosphere within the Democratic Party is as hot as the local temperature, with supporters of Federal Senator Sanders still braving the heat and the risk of being arrested by the police to express their distrust of the results of the primaries. Democrats fear a split in the party The Democratic Party's crisis of division, has not improved because of Sanders's stand-up stance in support of Hillary, retired well-known American anchor Dan Rather described the Democratic Party is now similar to the scene in 1968 against the Republican presidential candidate Nixon. In July 2016, a CNN poll showed Trump leading Hillary by 44% to 39% if the Green Party and Libertarian Party candidates were included; if only Hillary and Trump faced off, Trump led Hillary by 48% to 45%, within the margin of error of 3 points. Of course, the Republican Party, which had finished its national convention, was already united behind Trump. But such lead momentum and momentum, if sustained, would not be good news for Hillary. Why aren't Sanders' supporters in the party still backing her, unable to go all out for Obama as her supporters did back then? "Heidi Clark, a Sanders supporter, told Taiwan's Central News Agency that it was "impossible" for her to listen to Sanders and vote for Hillary.

So there is still a long way to go before a woman becomes President of the United States! Allan Lichtman, a professor of history at American University who specialises in US presidential elections, said that polls are difficult to measure gender bias and that people would not admit they would not like to see a woman as president, "even if that's what he thinks".

Among his seven suggestions for Hillary, he reportedly said that she would have to confront the email controversy directly, especially the "email-gate" story about her use of a private email server during her tenure as secretary of state, and that the cloud of suspicion would not go away like a puff of smoke, and that people would expect to see her say directly where she had gone wrong. Hillary is a former First Lady of the United States, a former federal senator and a former Secretary of State, and has the kind of impressive credentials that no other politician has, but for her is a liability.

In the end, Trump received 304 electoral votes, while Hillary received 227 votes. Trump was formally elected as the 45th President of the United States and was sworn in on 20 January for a four-year term as President of the United States. Such a wide gap shows that a woman's presidency in the US is still impractical in the short time. The election results, along with research by some academics, suggest that Americans are generally more likely to vote for a male candidate.
