WORKSHOP Develop Mental Agility

Preparing your mind to survive in a world of accelerating change (socially, economically, physically).

Develop the survival skills to handle stress so you can achieve success ! One of the key challenges for everyone is the continual interaction with technology and the need to understand how (and why) to manage their emotions and keeping them in check as pace of change accelerates and overwhelms our cognitive capabilities. While we still don’t understand how emotions and behaviors operate within the inner workings of the mind, there is some emerging data clarifying the impacts of continual interaction with technology. Teens are constantly on their phones using social media, and some consequences are manifesting themselves in behavior, psychological problems, and performance of students in class (high school & college)1. The issues2 related to technology induced stress can have significant effects including: • • • • • • • • • • • •

Anxiety Depression Sleep disruption Attention, Memory, & Learning Addition (to Technology) Identity (Who am I ?) Empathy & Narcissism Relationship Issues Reliance on Drugs & Alcohol Suicidal Thoughts Eating Disorders Oppression & Bullying

Workshop Highlights: In this 3-Day workshop, we will outline a set of principles and progressive steps you can use to build and tailor your own survival kit to help you cope with stress and build a positive attitude through a mix of mental and physical exercises. You will leave with an understanding of the key stress points and a toolkit that includes the following new skills3: • Develop Mental Agility: Avoid getting locked into patterns of thinking and problem solving. Don’t react to changes or stress – instead pause and reframe the situation or problem and think of new ideas and approaches to achieve better outcomes. • Build a Cognitive Warehouse: Manage the information overload from media, school, work so you don’t feel overwhelmed and paralyzed. Learn how to setup a mental warehouse to store facts and information you need and discard the rest to avoid distractions. • Develop Resiliency: Things don’t always go the way you plan, but that doesn’t mean you should not have a plan to succeed. Learn how to develop your mental toughness so you can deal with mistakes and turn your failures into opportunities. • Practice Mindfulness: Develop your sense of awareness and leverage your cognitive warehouse so you can gain a better understanding of all the changes and their impact on yourself, on your work, and on your decisions. • Improve Focus & Concentration: The ability to detach from technology and the assault of media and information splinters our attention span and distracts us from what matters. Discover ways to improve your focus so you can concentrate on learning and thinking more deeply. This will improve your performance in school and work as well as reduce your overall stress levels.
