The latest and most exciting Tidy Towns’ project ,‘Faces of Hollyfort’, is a communitybased project. It is historical and creative and has been proposed by photographers Joe Dixon (Gorey) and Jacinta McGovern (Hollyfort) who have kindly offered their services. The project is in three stages: Stage 1 : to record the life of Hollyfort Village through portraits of people who live in or around Hollyfort. Photos will be taken in the Old School. Later by an exhibition and launch of a ‘Faces of Hollyfort’ book. Stage 2 : Environmental Photography classes in the Old School on how to take photographs of Hollyfort people in their environment. Stage 3 :‘Hollyfort: Environmental Photography’ open competition based around Hollyfort. Stage 1 has been postponed and further dates will be advised in due course.

Wexford Trails Hollyfort has now officially registered as a member of the reformed Wexford Walking Trails. Much effort has been spent on getting our Mt Nebo trail ready for accreditation, and we are awaiting an inspection by Sport Ireland. Check out Mt Nebo Trail on Hollyfort blog.

Hollyfort is taking part in the NBDC (National Biodiversity Data Centre) survey on spring flowers. Biodiversity data are a key requirement for understanding our natural surroundings and for tracking change in our environment. Hollyfort is contributing to this survey by submitting records of the 14 most common spring flowering plants growing in the Hollyfort area. There are various surveys online, such as recording butterflies. Get involved and solution. It's easy to register. www.biodiversityireland.ie

May Bush Festival This year, hundreds of whitethorn trees were distributed free to the Wexford community. In Hollyfort, a May Bush was planted in the grounds of the Old School. Help us revive a Hollyfort tradition by decorating the May Bush on the eve of May Day.

Donnelly’s Corner

All thanks to Gorey District Council who installed culverts on this busy junction and also added an artist flare to the new supporting wall and flower bed. Perfect with the old stone wall.

Xmas 2019

Santa, Mrs Claus and the elves met children in Santa’s Grotto in the Old School. Above, an exhausted Santa takes a break. Afterwards, there was much fun at switching on of the Xmas tree lights.

The Xmas Raffle raised much needed funds for Hollyfort Village. Thanks to all sponsors of our great prizes, including the above Hollyfort Cake. It was delicious!

The Old School was the venue for the inaugural meeting of Hollyfort Writers, the first ever writers group in Hollyfort . The writers meet fortnightly on Thursday evenings to write short stories and poetry. So successful is the group it reached its full membership on the first night. If you require information on Hollyfort Writers, please email us.

Hollyfort’s Pollination Project has six beehives almost ready for honeybees. If you would like to learn about bees and beekeeping, come along to our Introduction to Beekeeping with qualified beekeeper, Dave Mulvaney. Although it was necessary to postpone the event due to pandemic, we plan another session as soon as it is safe to do so. Keep an eye on the Hollyfort Village blog and Facebook.

Old Scuffle at x-roads

It’s Road Our annual River Bingo in October was not quite what we expected. Due to high level of water in the Bann, it was too perilous to run the event. So, not to be defeated, the group released the balls on Hollyfort’s main street. Big thank-you to all who supported the fund-raiser and to those who donated the great prizes. Check out the hilarious video on Facebook.

Latest addition to the village. The Flower Cart is ready when we are!
