"For forty years you sustained them in the wilderness; they lacked nothing , their clothes did not wear out nor did their feet become swollen.” Nehemiah 9:21 NIV

“The Lord your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has watched over your journey through this vast wilderness. These forty years the Lord your God has been with you, and you have not lacked anything.” Deuteronomy 2:7 NIV

“I will exalt you, my God the King; I will praise your name for ever and ever. Every day I will praise you and extol your name for ever and ever. Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise ; his greatness no one can fathom. One generation commends your works to another; they tell of your mighty acts. They speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty— and I will meditate on your wonderful works. They tell of the power of your awesome works— and I will proclaim your great deeds. They celebrate your abundant goodness and j oyfully sing of your righteousness.” Psalms 145:1-7 NIV

PRAY FOR INDONESIA Zoom Prayer Meeting

SATURDAY

18th April 2020 | 09.00 am

- Ibu Wendy,Ichthus South Secondary Principal, prayed for peace as many are anxious and fearful during this period. Philippians 4:7 (UKJV) And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

"Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective " James 5:16 Last Saturday, 9:00am to be precise, a group of caring parents, teachers and leaders from the Ichthus School Community gathered together in prayer via Zoom. It is said "For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them." Matthew 18:20. It is a difficult time for everyone, especially with the widespread social distancing and quarantine causing many to face social and economic challenges. The parents, teachers and principals had a good time with fellowship before communal prayers. The prayers ranged from praying for peace and healing for the nation and her people. www.ichthusschool.com

- Pak Anton, Ichthus South Primary Kepala Sekolah, prayed for breakthrough for people facing financial difficulties...and prayed that the hearts of Christians be touched to help those in need during such troubled times. - Ms. Phyllen , Ichthus West Teacher, prayed for grateful hearts, to learn to see what we have vs what we don't have. - Pak Arief: Prayed that our country leaders will lead wisely and for the medical team at the battle front of the pandemic. Our parents prayed for a return to times before Covid19, to help the poor and the starving, for healing for the sick and weak, for God's Grace and Mercy in times like these. They also prayed that many will know the great name of Jesus during this time. We are grateful and thankful that we are still able to gather albeit via Zoom for fellowship as an Ichthus Community to support one another. Mr. Arief Community Development Coordinator

WE ARE NOT

IN THE SAME BOAT

- We might be in the middle of the same storm, but we are not in the same boat. - My boat may be sailing ahead but yours could be shipwrecked. - For some, quarantine, work from home is optimal: Easy time in flip flops and whiskey or cup of coffee on hand. For others, in the business of essentials - they are busy working in the hot sun, toiling the fields and delivering goods with the danger of exposure to the virus. - For some this is a time for families to bond together, for others it’s the loneliest time - For some this is a time for reflection, yet for others it’s a time of wondering, wondering how to feed their families - Some are worried about guarding their nest bargain hunting, looking for discounts while others are not sure if they have enough for the next meal. - Some whine about working from home, while some head to the dump sites to look for things to salvage to sell - Some wants to go to work because they are running out of money, while others want to ‘kill’ those who break the quarantine. - Some has experienced near death of the virus, some have lost someone from it, some are not sure if their loved ones are going to make it and some believe it’s no big deal.

- Some are experiencing the sickness, some believe they are invincible and some are blown away when this hits someone they know. - Some have faith in God yet some ask where is God. We are going through a time when our perceptions and needs are completely different. For many of us, the perception of our problems are always the worse, the most troubling, the most worrying because they are OUR problems, OUR Storm but in reality, it’s always relative, relative to how we choose to respond to it while there are real needs of many out there. So, brothers and sisters, we are not in the same boat and hopefully, each one will emerge, in his or her own way, from that storm. Some with a tan from their pool. Others with scars on the soul. Do not underestimate the pain of others if you do not feel it. Do not judge the good life of the other, do not condemn the bad life of the other. We are in different ships looking to survive. Let everyone navigate their route with respect, empathy and responsibility. --Author unknown

Luke 12:48 New International Version (NIV) 48 But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked. Not all men are created equal, yet we are equal before God facing his law, mercy, grace and truth. One of our core values is ‘Servant Leadership’, the confidence of the abundant life given by Christ. Christ gave us two key commands - To love God with all our hearts and then to love one another. There is no better time than now to help one another especially for the ones who are really in need.

STUDENTS

e-Learning

EXPERIENCE Noah Fidelio Orrick, Grade 1 “I love E-Learning but sometimes it’s boring because I can’t see my friends face-to-face. I love the Zoom meetings. I love this new invention of learning. However, I can’t interact with other students like in the normal classroom setting. I miss my friends and I miss all the teachers. School time is still more exciting for me. I hope this corona virus will be gone soon so I can go to school again! I miss my school and my teachers!”

Nikola, Grade 2 “This past month has been liked a roller coaster ride for Nikola. As the weeks gone by, he finally got used to the e-learning schedules from school. Every morning he always asked his mom the schedule of the day, and would be very excited if his favourite subjects are mentioned. Nikola has been known as a paper craft boy. One of the topics from Bahasa class was about Rafflesia Arnoldii flower. He searched the real pictures in YouTube and handmade the flower. Other activities that he had done during his downtime was making science project. This week’s science topic was about circuit. With the help of his dad, he made a simple series circuit. He was fascinated and asked lots of questions to his dad about electricity. These fun projects had been helping him enjoy his time at home and help keep his mom sane from this e-learning madness.”

Ichthus South Student “I love to see the varied virtual backgrounds of students depicting their ambitions, desires and what they miss- outer space, presidential palace, San Francisco bridge in California, Ichthus school, malls, food, movie characters, airplanes, every class time!”

OUR TEACHERS’

EXPERIENCE Ms Jessica Niere, Language Arts Teacher and Coordinator “Nothing will ever replace the magic of learning in a real classroom. However, based on these surreal circumstances (a global pandemic!), I am excited to use an online platform to continue the education momentum I’ve been building with my students since July. Once this virus prevention period is over and conventional classes will return in some capacity, I will definitely make this online learning a permanent change in my teaching practice. #Schoolisnotclosed #Schoolistakingplaceinadifferentformat” .

Ms Phyllen “At first, E-Learning was considered something that we really struggled to come to terms with. It denoted a movement away from what we do best as teachers, which is read students’ faces, body language and behavior to help better determine how to approach the daily lesson. Nevertheless, we’ve come to see its significance especially during this global crisis. It has given us teachers and students alike the opportunity to broaden our knowledge of the use of technology.”

Ichthus South Teachers: It is heartening to see outstanding outcomes from students through online learning. These shows how motivated they are to learn and this inspires me go the extra mile to make my lessons focused and engaging. The pandemic allows for a perfect opportunity to teach compassion and empathy to our teenagers. Many to pray for their neighbors- as Jesus said, to love God above all and to love our neighbors as ourselves. Teaching our young teens to care for others E- learning taught us patience, compassion and creativity to students who need a little more time to learn and those who have limited online support!/ resources at home. They made me empathize how I can help them even more.

Dumpling Day

Last February a large group of parents gathered for our first parents’ community fun event – Dumpling Day. Parents had the opportunity to learn how to make four different types of dumplings; Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indonesian and Philippino. Not only did we learn how to make them we also enjoyed eating them very much. It was great to be able to have parents learn from each other and also chat and make new friendships. We hope to have a second fun parents event in the future.
