VOL. 01 APRIL 2020
From the Editor First of all, thank you so much for reading the premiere issue of K-AMP Magazine! I hope you're staying safe and healthy in these uncertain times. Despite the circumstances, we're happy to bring you a brand new publication focused on your favorite K-Pop artists, as well as Korean fashion, beauty, style, drama recaps, and general silliness for which our wonderful community is known

For the first issue, I knew we had to get someone for the cover that's really iconic and almost timeless in the K-Pop community, and when I learned of an opportunity to interview Taeyeon, I knew it had to be her for the cover. As many of you know, Taeyeon started out in nine-member girl group Girls Generation (SNSD for us older fans) over a decade ago,

and has since gone on to launch a wildly successful solo career. She definitely deserves all the success, as her singing is simply beautiful - fans often joke that she "eats her CDs" in order to sound perfect during live performances. In the coming months, we have a spectacular lineup of

in-depth artist interviews for you as well, though you'll have to wait until they release to know the specifics. Not only are we going to hit you with interviews from all the artists you love, but each one will be accompanied by mind-blowing photoshoots as well. We encourage readers to check our website frequently to see high resolution versions of these photos as well as vote in polls and submit your choices for upcoming articles. Your comments or suggestions could end up in next month's issue! In short, we hope you enjoy this premiere issue, and we

arking their first comeback since debut, cignature powered through with a trendy new music video for their latest single titled “ASSA” on April 6! The girl group has returned with their “debut lead single B” shortly after introducing themselves to the music scene with their thundering debut. Just like “Nun Nu Nan Na,” “ASSA” banked on a very catchy chorus. The track also featured a showcase of the girls’ vocal prowess, including Belle hitting the runs in the song impressively and Ye Ah delivering a flawless pre-chorus. As for the music video, the girls shone amidst a bright explosion of colours, mostly in neon, which tied it up as an eye-catching clip altogether. They also boosted the excitement by performing a very lively and colorful group choreography with enticing backdrops such as that of a brilliant laser-lit stage. This pop art concept highlighting their striking charms delivered a vibrant energy with their white and casual sporty outfits. Showing an opposite atmosphere alternatively, the girls also donned crisp white and black suits, exuding even more intense and charismatic charms.

aeyeon was selected as the main cover of the premiere issue of K-AMP. We did the photoshoot with the concept of 'time travel connecting the past and present'. Taeyeon showed an appearance that reminds you of a classic film, as well as modern sensual vibes, express the various concepts with her own beauty. The degree of completion of the shoot was increased by freely using variou sprops like a fan and rope. K-AMP: Until now, you've attempted various concepts. What do you think about today's appearance that's like you came out from a portrait? Are you always open to new visual works? TAEYEON: Of course. I always want to try new challenges. Whatever the appearance, it's all what I'm doing, and it's me. Would it feel unfamiliar to people seeing it? It's always fun for me. When I do past concepts, it makes me feel calm for some reason, and when I do modern concepts again, there's a lighthearted feeling. K: Women of the past probably carried that weight, too. If you were born centuries ago, what do you think you would've done? As expected, music? T: I've never thought about it (laughs). I'm not sure. I don't think I would've sung. I like making things with my hands, so I t hink I might be doing something like that. Like knitting or something. K: It's already April for the magazine calendar. What do you think about around this time? T: It's always hectic in the end of the year. There are various schedules, so you can't even feel that it's the end of the year. I think it has to become early in the new year to get the time to look back. I guess it's when I get relaxed? It's a good month to plan things, so I spend it while planning future activities. K: Do you make plans every spring? Do you remember what you had planned in 2019? T: Early last year, I set plans wanting to make hte year one where I get relaxed and rest. It was 'rest' since I ran so much until now. But I was busiest this past year. I released a lot of songs being active solo, and it became a year where I worked the hardest. Haha! K: Did you receive offers that you couldn't reject? Or, inspiration you couldn't reject? T: It's not the latter (laughs). Until now, I never thought about resting, so this was a first. I was also exhausted. But, while doing things, I got a boost from schedules, and that boost turned into running. Activi-

ties influence each other. K: If you write down each of your activities this past year, it was blinding to the point where there would be a number of questions. of them, what was something that was unexpected? T: Singing the Hotel del Luna OST, 'All About You.' I had to rush working on it to match the broadcast date, but I was surprised because the response was so unexpectedly good. It was a twist because people liked it so much, I was thankful. K: Variety shows are a rarity for you, but you also tried busking through Begin Again. T: Doing that kind of project, it takes time and effort. Honestly, I would be lying if I said it wasn't stressful, but myself busking looked good to me, too (laughs). You have to swallow a bitter pill to gain something fruitful. I learned a lot. It also made me think, 'You need to make an effort and experience hardships like this for a good work to come about.' And I thought a lot returning to my roots. After singing in a good environment together with sufficient sound systems and lots of staff, busking is a stage where you're communicating with minimal equipment and only your voice. So it became an opportunity for me to return to my roots and think about my vocalization again. K: The official Korean cover of Frozen 2 plays on all the streets. All children sing along to 'Into the Unkown.' Did you like the song? T: The difficulty is a lot more higher than 'Let It Go,' so the very first thing I thought about was, 'Will children be able to sing along to this?' After watching the movie, there was a reason why this song was made like this. When I recorded it, I sang it without having watched the movie, so I just imagined a magnificent scene listening to the music, and it was [in the movie]! (laughs) K: You're standing on stage for over 10 years now. Is there anything you want to say to yourself? WHatever it is, it's a proud thing to do something for over 10 years. T: There's a new song that I've been working on lately, and I think that song can be the answer. It's about looking at myself more optimistically, and to love myself more. It's a healing song patting people [on the back]. If I was to say it myself, I want to say things that give confidence. K: The way you recieve questions and answer them on Instagram looks fun. Fans normally know the artist best, right? T: Because this is an occupation that's exposed so much, I usually don't try to show myself much. But something that I think is fundamental is communicat-
