MAIN MENU In the main menu, you can choose if you want to play alone or would like to compete against others. In addition, various game options are available here.

SINGLE PLAYER Continue Campaign Here you can select and load your game progress from a previously started game.

New Campaign You can begin a new campaign under “New Campaign”.

Skirmish Game You can start a new single-player game here.

Game Assistant In the game assistant, you can quickly set the settings for your game. For example, select the length of a strategic turn, the size of the galaxy or the enemy behavior. Click on the corresponding button to choose your faction and your ancestry. Multiple predefined ancestries are available. But you can also set a new ancestry and save it for later games. Click on the test tube icon to choose your research trees. Once you have finalized all settings, click on “ready” to begin your game.

Tip: Select your race and your research tree with caution, as these have ramifications on your abilities in the game and offer you particular bonuses. In this way, for example, you will receive access to exclusive technological achievements.

Load Game Click on “Load Game” to load a saved single-player game.

3

MULTIPLAYER In the multiplayer menu, you can put your abilities to the test against other players. To do so, establish a connection via LAN, direct connection or the Internet. You can build your own match and invite friends with “Create”, or load an already created match with “Load”. If you would like to join another player’s match, select “Join”. This will bring you to the lobby, where additional settings for your match are at your disposal. Select the number of players (max. 8 players), your desired color, faction, race, victory conditions, etc.

Tip: Two players can also play together as the same faction and divide their duties. Decide among yourselves, for example, who will take care of economic strategy and who will take care of military tasks.

OPTIONS You can set general game options under “Options”, including gameplay settings, graphics, audio settings and control options. Click on the appropriate button to open the tab with the corresponding settings. You can also call up this menu during the game by pressing the Esc button. From here you can also save your current game, load an existing game, end the current game or return to the main menu.

THE GAME GALAXY MAP After you have finalized all the settings, the game begins with a view of the galaxy map where the game takes place. The galaxy map offers the main overview of the known universe.

Systems and Star Roads All systems in the galaxy are represented on the map as bright suns. Jumpgates are located between the systems, connecting the systems to each other. These connections are shown on the map as connecting lines, the so-called star roads. At the beginning of the game, you are only aware of a few star roads that lead out of your home system. Yet the further you progress

4

the game, the more connections you’ll discover. So over the course of the game, a thick grid will form that connects all systems and makes them accessible. Click on a system you have already explored in the galaxy map or move your cursor over it to display the most important information about it. Here you will learn: How many planets are located in this system Who has colonized these planets (player color) What ships are located in the system (your own as well as those belonging to others)

Tip: You can quickly travel vast distances in the galaxy via wormholes. You can recognize wormholes by the coloring of the star road.

Ship Movement on the Map When you have selected a system where your ships are located, click on your own faction’s ship symbol. This will open a drop down list, in which you can select one or more of your ships. Move your cursor over another system and confirm your selection to set course for a new system. The distance and estimated flight time to destination will be displayed based on the slowest ship in your selection.

STRATEGY MENU

You’ll find important game information and controls in the strategy menu. The menu consists of two areas: The infobar and the control console.

5

Info Bar The info bar at the top of the screen contains the following items: The menu button The current round and the time left in the round Your available resources Current research progress The “Report” and “Mission” buttons The “End Turn” button

Menu Button Here you can save your current game, load an existing game, end the current game or return to the main menu. You can also call up this menu with the Esc button.

Round/Time Left in Round Here you can see what round you are in and how long this round lasts.

Resources Here you will find an overview of the resources available to you. Among the extractable resources are: Boronium: A rare resource, required for efficient operation of ships. Choxid: A rare resource, required for trading with guilds. In addition, there are also resources specific to each race.

Humans: Credits: Required for the construction of new ships and buildings. Available Officers: Required for new ships and limits the maximum fleet size.

X’or: Computing Capacity: Required for the construction of new ships and buildings. Upload: Required for new ships and limits the maximum fleet size.

Arthrox: Biomass: Required for the construction of new ships and buildings. Saror: Required for new ships and limits the maximum fleet size.

6

You can only obtain extractable resources through the mining of asteroid fields (see Ships and Space Structures) or by placing a ship with the recycling module near a shipwreck and salvaging it. All other resources are generated by your developed planets.

Research Progress The research progress displays the state of your current research project. Only one research project can be active at any one time.

Report and Mission You can display details on events during the transition between rounds via the “Report” button. In case you forget what your current assignment is, you can display your current mission objectives under “Mission”.

End Turn With the “End Turn” button, you will end the current turn and move to the next turn.

Control Console At the bottom left of the screen you will find the control console, which offers access to the following areas: Empire Management Research Overview Ship Designer Diplomacy Fleet Manager

Empire Management In the empire management, you’ll see an overview of the systems under your control. Here you can alter various settings for your empire with the respective sliders, including the revenues from taxes and tolls and your expenditures for culture, research, industry and the military. Click on the individual tabs to receive information and statistics on the respective areas.

Research Overview In the research overview, you’ll see which technologies you are currently able to research. These will be separated into ship and empire technologies. Click on a technology on the list to begin research. In addition, here you’ll see the research points generated by your empire as well as the progress of your current research project.

7

Tip: You can always switch to another research project, as the research progress is saved for each individual project.

Ship Designer In the ship designer, you can design and customize your ships. Click on “New” in the bottom left to design new ship blueprints. First select a hull from the various available options on the left side. The X’or are the only exceptions to this, as their ships are made directly from individual modules. You can then select various military, scientific and civilian ship modules from the left side and place them by dragging and dropping them on your ship. The modules offer different abilities according to their types and differ in the number of available slots for construction components. You can select these from the right side and place them by dragging and dropping them on your ship. Click on the individual tabs to display weapons, shields, engines, reactors, etc. The components that are available depend on what you have already researched. Keep in mind that weapons can only be placed in the red weapon slots. The resulting abilities and energy are displayed in the bottom right of the screen. Please note that all construction components consume energy, which is generated by reactors. Make sure you have an even balance of energy, as your ship will not operate otherwise. If you generate more energy with your reactors than your components require, then you will build up a reserve that can serve as an emergency reserve in battle if a portion of your reactors is destroyed. Each ship must be equipped with at least one engine, as it couldn’t fly otherwise. Flightless ships cannot be saved.

Tip: The quantity and strength of the engines determines your ship’s speed in battle as well as in navigating the galaxy. As soon as you have made your selection, the materials required for construction will be displayed in the top right under “Costs”. Give your ship a name and save your blueprints with “Save” in the bottom left.

Diplomacy Diplomacy encompasses all interactions with third parties. All rival empires that you have already discovered are displayed in this menu. Here you can conduct negotiations with other parties and enable additional options based on standing. Your emperor and the representatives of all factions are depicted as portraits. Click on the portraits to interact with other players and to display your diplomacy status. By default, you will usually have peaceful relations with other factions. However, you can also declare war on them by clicking on the appropriate button. A war can only be ended by a declaration of peace.

8

Fleet Manager In the fleet manager, you’ll see an overview of all your empire’s ships. Here you can combine ships into groups and then assign these to fleets. Assign your groups additional formations that will be immediately assumed in battle. Give your groups and fleets names so that you can quickly identify them. To assign a ship to a group, select the fleet and then the group, and drag the desired ship from the list of ships on the right side onto the detailed group view. A small icon next to the ship’s name in the list of ships indicates whether or not a ship belongs to a group. You can also move groups to another fleet by dragging a group from the group list onto the name of the appropriate fleet in the fleet list. If you would like to assign a formation to a group, then first select the fleet and then the group. Now all of the ships in the group will be displayed as symbols in the formation view. Here you can move the individual symbols with your mouse or select one of the predefined formations by pressing the corresponding button.

Tip: During ship selection, be mindful of having a balanced fleet configuration, as the individual ships determine what abilities will be available to you in battle.

System View Double-click on an explored star system in the galaxy map to open a 3D view of the system. Here you can navigate within the system and place units. In the system view, you will recognize the surrounding elements of the star system, including the individual planets, jumpgates and asteroid fields contained there. Here you can select your ships by left-clicking on them and assign a flight destination within the system with a right-click. Click on a ship to show its status in the tactical display.

Tactical Display The tactical display is available in space battle as well as in the system view and offers information on the status of your ships and space structures. In the tactical display, you will also find buttons for activating the special abilities of the ship or structure. For example, you can construct space structures at a particular spot in space. If you have built components with special abilities into your ship, then these abilities can be activated in battle via the tactical display. Every ship is equipped with four sections. These are engines, weapons systems, electronics and

9

defense, which can also be attacked individually later in the course of the game (once you have researched the appropriate technology). Sections of your ship that have been damaged are emphasized with a different color and are then only functional to a limited extent. So sometimes weapons can partially malfunction when the weapons system is damaged, or the engine can fail when it is damaged.

PLANET MANAGEMENT A galaxy consists of many different star systems, which in turn contain planets. You can colonize these planets to use them to your advantage and add them to your empire.

Planet Suitability Each faction in Legends of Pegasus has particular preferences for the colonization of a planet, in regards to the planet’s water, temperature or vegetation. In addition to these preferences, the planets are equipped with particular special properties, which can further affect the suitability for a faction. All of these influencing factors collectively mirror the planet suitability. The better the planet suitability is, the better your faction will grow on this planet. Double-click on a planet within the system to open the planetary view and see its suitability as well as the available construction sites.

Planet Settlement In order to settle a planet, you must place a ship with a colony module in the orbit of this planet. Open the planetary view (double-click on the planet). Select the displayed colony module from the right side and place it on one of the planet’s free construction sites. Colonization will take a round. After that, you can begin developing your planet.

10

Planet Development As soon as you have colonized a planet, you will have options available for the construction of various planetary and orbital structures.

Planetary Construction Sites Every planet can have five different types of construction sites available, which offer bonuses for the structures built there: Neutral construction sites (white) give absolutely no bonuses. Industry construction sites (red) give bonuses to the industrial capacity. Research construction sites (blue) give bonuses to the research capacity. Culture construction sites (green) give a bonus to the planet’s culture. Orbital construction sites (white circles) enable construction of orbital structures. The respective bonuses are only granted when a building of the appropriate type is built on that slot. Of course every other building can also be built there. However, there won’t be any bonus granted then.

Orbital Structures Orbital structures are built in the orbit of the planet. These can be shipyards, trade centers, repair docks, etc.

Construction Menu All buildings that you have already researched are displayed on the right side in the construction menu. Using the two buttons on the bottom of the construction menu, you can switch between planetary buildings and modules in orbit (construction modules/components available on your ships). Click on the individual building categories to display the available construction options. Among others, from here you can select economic buildings (for example: factories), research buildings (for example: laboratories) and civilian buildings. Drag the desired building onto a planetary construction site. This will place the building order in the construction waiting list and it will be processed during the next round. How long this building order takes is directly dependent upon how high the industrial capacity of your planet is. A current estimate of the likely duration is displayed in the building order. Construction of orbital structures is carried out similarly to planetary buildings. Drag the desired element onto a free orbital construction site. You will then be asked to select your desired construction position in orbit. To do so, simply place the structure in the appropriate position. Some orbital structures can only be built once per planet, such as the shipyard.

11

Tip: Since the position of your orbital structures is identical in turn-based strategy mode as well as in space battle, you should choose their location with caution. Don’t forget that they could be destroyed in battle. To demolish existing buildings, select the excavator symbol on the bottom in the construction menu and then click on the building to be demolished. Confirm the procedure to remove the building.

Ships and Space Structures You need two things in order to build ships: 1. Blueprints for a ship, drawn up in the ship designer (see Ship Designer). 2. A settled planet with a shipyard built in orbit. To issue a building order for a ship, select one of the available ship blueprints from the construction menu. Drag the blueprints onto an orbital construction site containing an already completed shipyard. The ship will be displayed in the construction list and built. Space structures are buildings located in the open space of your star system. You can build mining stations or space stations, for example, at any position in your star system.

Tip: Construct stations near jumpgates to see who enters your system and to immediately initiate a real-time battle at enemy contact. Select the blueprints for your desired space structure according to the same pattern as with ship manufacturing. A construction fleet will then be built in the shipyard to transfer the desired space structure (for example: a refinery). Place the fleet in your desired location and then select the function to construct the structure in the tactical display. In order to use mining stations, you have to build these in the radius of an asteroid field.

Economy The economy on a planet is basically divided into the fields of culture, research, industry and defense. The field of culture directly affects how comfortable people feel on your planet. If you have built many cultural buildings, then the morale of the populace will be strengthened as a result. This has a direct influence on productivity and with that an influence on all other fields on the planet. The field of research is responsible for a planet’s research capacity. The capacities of each planet taken together amount to the overall research capacity of your empire and are used in the research overview to research new technologies (see Research Overview). Besides the quantity of research buildings, the research capacity is also directly dependent on a planet’s productivity.

12

The industry on a planet is responsible for the speed in which new buildings or spaceships can be built on a planet. The industrial capacity can be increased by constructing buildings in the field of industry, but like the research capacity is also directly dependent on a planet’s productivity.

Defense Each planet automatically generates a small quantity of ground forces that will defend the colony in case of an invasion. By constructing special defense structures (for example: barracks), the defensive capacity can be increased further.

Tip: Your planet’s defense forces will also be improved by a high morale.

SPACE BATTLE When enemy fleets enter your area, the game will switch to real-time space battle following the strategy round. The system where the enemy ships have been encountered will serve as the battle map. That means that all planets and buildings you keep in this system are also part of the combat action and can be attacked. So provide for a good defense!

Tip: Place your ships near the jumpgate so that enemy ships will be immediately intercepted by your units and can’t advance further into your system.

13

Navigation and Retreat You can move your ships in two different ways. First select one or more of your spaceships, click on the “Move” button and then on any location in space. Your ships will immediately head for the new target coordinates. Alternatively, a simple right-click on any position in space will suffice to put a selected ship into motion. You can also display the altitude information of your ships for a short time by holding down the spacebar or permanently by pressing the Alt button. To change the vertical position of your ships, hold down the middle mouse button and move the mouse up and down. As soon as you let go of the button, the selected ships will alter their vertical position. If the enemy is obviously superior, then it’s often better to save the remaining ships and challenge the enemy anew with reinforcements later. To withdraw your fleet from a battle, select it and set a course for one of the jumpgates spread through the system.

Use of Weapons and Abilities When you select one or more of your ships, the tactical display is shown in the lower part of the screen. This consists of a status display that indicates the level of damage to the individual sections of the ship as well as the abilities bar of the selected ships. All standard commands, such as attack and move, are displayed here as well as special abilities, such as ship repair or tractor beam, depending on the equipment of your ships. To attack an opposing ship or utilize special abilities, highlight one of your ships and then select the desired action from the abilities bar. Then you will confirm its assignment with a left-click on the desired target. In this way, you can attack enemy ships or even make allied ships operational again by applying a repair ability.

Planet Invasion To take over an enemy player’s planet, you must initiate an invasion there. To do so you will need invasion modules, which you can build into your ships from the ship designer. The ships with the invasion modules also have to be located in the orbit of that particular planet. To begin the invasion, open the planetary view of the planet in question during the strategy phase and move your invasion modules to the planet. Industry on the planet will now be halted, since an invasion is taking place. The construction list will indicate how far the invasion has progressed and how many troops are still available to you and your opponent.

Tip: If a planet is equipped with planetary shields, then you will first have to destroy the shield generator in orbit before you can begin an invasion.
