Journal of Danelle Beckstrand — May 2017 Last night on the Infant Medical Surgical Unit, as I worked the graveyard shift, I watched inspired nurses and staff respond to a coding patient. Many had admitted to praying for this sweet baby moments before she suddenly stopped breathing. Measures were taken to ensure equipment was set up before anyone knew it would be needed. The baby's parents had decided, earlier that day, to spend this particular night in the hospital room instead of their hotel room. Staff members responded quickly and without hesitation to the situation. Several admitted to feeling as though they were guided with instruction through a heavenly presence. Although this baby did not survive, despite best efforts, she was able to come back long enough to allow her parents to hold her one last time as they said their goodbyes. Despite the chaos, there was a peaceful and somber mood throughout the entire unit.
Char Young One time, back when Alison Kohutek worked night shifts (all bundled up in a thousand blankets no doubt) I went to use the bathroom off of C-pod. I opened the door and Alison was in there. She had locked the door but the lock was a bit unreliable. She screamed and quickly pulled her pants up and I shut the door! Luckily we were both able to laugh about it when she came out. I think about that a lot when I go to use that bathroom. I have learned to slowly open the door as I knock before entering!
IMSU Facebook Page — March 2020 The Flood of 2020—the toilet on D-pod “exploded” while a mom was in the restroom. The poor mom came out soaking wet! There was water all over the floor on the pod, in the pump room, the storage room, and the charge nurse office. We had to use every towel on the unit to mop up all the water!
