fter more than three years of offering the revolutionary TruSculpt iD at her Dr. Laurel’s PRP Bar, the rave reviews for Dr. Laurel and her fat-melting procedure continue to pile up. One patient had this to say: “Dr. Laurel is awesome. The minute I met her I felt like we were friends for years. She is extremely smart and knowledgeable. She did my TruSculpt and I love the results.” “With TruSculpt iD, fat is heated and then immediately begins to dissolve with full results evident in about 12 weeks,” says Dr. Laurel. “You can expect to lose 24 percent of your fat in the treated area, and because there is radio frequency technology

built into the handpieces we use, skin is tightened and becomes smoother. It’s like getting three treatments in one.” TruSculpt iD is perfect for the chin, abdomen, inner and outer thighs, back, arms and anyplace on the body you want to see a dramatic reduction. Some areas require just one treatment, while others require two treatments or one with additional purchased handpieces. Schedule a complimentary consultation by calling 216-245-6682. The office is at 3439 W. Brainard Rd., Suite 107, in Beachwood. To learn more and see additional before and after photos, visit DrLaurelsPRPBar.com. Titan Professional tree work handled by certified arborists. Here’s why so many people prefer Titan Arbor Care.

by Adam Cook

n and around Medina County, Titan Arbor Care goes above and beyond to guard clients’ yards. That’s a promise certified arborists Jay Dalton, Jeremy Rolf, and Tyler Honsaker stand by. Last year, when the owner of First Choice Tree Work retired, the trio bought out the company they had worked for since 2013. Now, under their new banner, it’s easy to spot why the experienced team of tree care specialists cuts such a unique profile. Just look at their helmets. “We’re all on the same wavelength,” says Jay. “We have the same high level of education, and we can communicate wirelessly through our helmets without all the screaming and yelling you might hear from other crews.” Armed with an array of tools, they safely take down enormous oaks, maples, and any other manner of tree that threatens a home’s integrity, while leaving a faint footprint. “We have over 200 feet of planking we can put down to protect the yard, and our equipment is compact and lightweight enough to move around with minimal disruption,” says Jay. The team does one better than most. “Our stump grinding machine is portable, fits through a 36-inch gate and goes deep enough to where we’re sure we’re going to get the whole thing out,” says Jay. “We take every step to leave your yard better than we found it. We give the option to haul away the grindings, spread fresh topsoil, and plant

grass right away. So, you’re left with a nice clean finished yard. If we didn’t, to us, it would seem like an incomplete job.” Titan Arbor Care stands out from other tree care providers. “Everyone says free estimates, but we say quote. Unless the scope of work changes, we won’t change the price,” says Jay. Although it’s difficult to part with a beloved tree, sometimes removal is the only option—but not always. “A tree is either a benefit or hindrance,” says Jay. “Some think the only answer is removal, and there might be other options

such as corrective pruning, or there might be an injection or a treatment of some type. It’s hard to replace a mature tree, we’d rather prune it than remove it, and if it’s not worth it, we’ll tell you.” Trees grow differently in a residential setting—crowns are more prominent, and branches grow broader and closer to the ground. Pruning keeps trees healthier longer, removes dangerous dead wood, and gives the experts a birds-eye view to diagnose abnormalities. “You want to be able to envision a bird flying through the crown,” says Jay. “If you

can’t, you want to prune overgrown limbs, letting the wind flow through, and reduce or remove heavy limbs, so they don’t tear into the trunk because then you’ll have to take the whole tree down.”

“We have the same high level of education, and we can communicate wirelessly through our helmets without all the screaming and yelling you might hear from other crews.” The owners of Titan Arbor Care stand by their promise. “Our owners are in three different school districts, Brunswick, Cloverleaf and Wadsworth, and we’re real proud of where we live,” says Jay. As the neighborhood overwatch, they credit the real heroes, offering a discount to those who served in the military and seniors. “It’s a small price to pay for the huge price that those groups have given, whether it’s a single year in the service or a lifetime,” says Jay. “The average 60- or- 70-year-old has sacrificed much more than Jeremy, Tyler, and I do by giving them a discount on work we’re lucky enough to have them call us to do.”

Because they understand how trees should work in a yard, the Titan Arbor Care team works to preserve and appropriately beautify, rather than rip down and remove.

Guard your yard. Titan Arbor Care is standing by. Call 216-586-6955, MondayFriday, between 8 a.m.-6 p.m. for your free quote. For a complete list of services, including deer repellant, tree planting and discount firewood, visit TitanArborCare.com. MimiVanderhaven.com | mimi

Impact Landscape & Home Remodeling installs fiberglass pools designed with upscale features such as tanning ledges and beach entry slopes. They come in all shapes and sizes and work perfectly with planned relaxation spaces.

Plan Your Space

Whether for play, partying or relaxation, the team at Impact Landscape & Home Remodeling can help you make a personal outdoor statement—but the time to start planning is now.

ransitioning from winter’s snow-covered landscape to spring’s colorful flowers popping up through a green backdrop, March is a perfect reminder of how beautiful change is. And it’s also the signal to get back outdoors. Leading the charge is Impact Landscape & Home Remodeling, a family-owned business

known for building stunning outdoor gathering spaces for homeowners. “We are designing new landscape projects, including patios, pavilions and pools, right now and in just a couple of weeks we will be digging already,” says Joe Chiera, who along with

his wife Kristen, owns Impact Landscape & Home Remodeling. Both a landscape company and a home remodeler, the company has a unique perspective when designing inside and outside spaces. From designing backyard kitchens that look like they belong indoors to remodeling home interiors, this locally owned company is seamlessly blending indoor-outdoor living spaces.

“We are creating grand spaces in backyards that are similar to an indoor open-concept family room and kitchen,” says Joe. “These outdoor spaces are an extension of your home and provide extra square footage of living space.” Oftentimes, this means building a pavilion with a fireplace, a pergola framing an outdoor kitchen, or a porch with retractable screens to better define outdoor gathering spaces.

Patios, Pavilions, Pergolas To anchor outdoor gathering spaces, Impact has been building a variety of spaces, from home additions with retractable screens leading to an outdoor patio to a pavilion set back in the yard with a meandering walkway leading to a tranquil sitting area. For one Sharon Township homeowner, the company built an expansive pavilion that is more like an indoor family room, complete with a fireplace, mounted TV, granite countertops and comfy, padded counter stools and swivel chairs. Another homeowner in Fairlawn opted for a pergola with four brick columns for an airier space above, situated next to a built-in grill. And for a Bath Township homeowner with a big family, the pavilion, which was built with blackpainted cedar wood and topped with a black standing-seam metal roof, was designed to be able to seat everyone around one table for family meals and entertaining friends. “We design our hardscapes around each family’s needs, taking into consideration how they use their backyards,” notes Joe. Always with a nod to nature, the company designs one-of-a-kind hardscapes that provide comfortable seating amid beautiful, landscaped yards, around firepits or next to a pool or other water feature. Impact incorporates a mix of water and fire features, as well as lots of natural elements, in its landscape designs with the same goal: to provide an outdoor space that is relaxing. “Growing up as a kid, I was always playing in the woods and creeks, so I really enjoy bringing that sense of adventure to backyard landscapes,” comments Joe. “There are a lot of different focal points we can add to your landscape design.” Fiberglass Pools One of the biggest focal points you can add to your backyard is a swimming pool. Impact installs fiberglass pools designed with upscale features such as tanning ledges and beach entry slopes. They come in all shapes and sizes, as well as colors ranging from Caribbean Sparkle for a bright blue to Graphite Gray that reflects a steel-blue water color.

“Fiberglass pools are very low maintenance,” says Joe, noting there is no liner, they don’t need re-plastering and you won’t snag swimwear. “Our current lead time to order pool shells is four month, so there is still time to schedule a new pool for this summer,” adds Joe. Impact’s expert landscaping crew can also build hardscapes around your pool and plant trees and scrubs to soften up the edges

“We are creating grand spaces in backyards that are similar to an indoor open-concept family room and kitchen.”

Impact designs one-of-a-kind hardscapes that provide comfortable seating amid beautiful, landscaped yards.

With each landscape project, the company creates a detailed plan, which is meticulously hand-drawn by Russ Luyster, the landscape designer. A seasoned horticulturist, he doesn’t rely on computer templates but rather designs by hand a custom plan for each home, which can include trees, shrubs, flowering perennials, boulders, lighting, pools, patios and other hardscapes. “Our backyard landscapes turn homes into more of a resort oasis,” says Joe. “Let us make an impact on your home this year.” Impact Landscape & Home Remodeling is located at 1410 Medina Road in Medina. ptly named “An Adventure to Remember,” the 2022 Lake County YMCA Dream Car Fundraiser is bigger and more exciting than ever. The ambitious fundraising team has pulled out all the stops, offering a package valued at $50,000 that includes a loaded Chevy Silverado Crew Cab, a $700 Gift Card to any Ohio State Park and $100 gas card to get you there. “This year we decided to expand the winning package and send a lucky family on an adventurous trip to an Ohio state park in their gorgeous new ride,” says Kelly Penzenik, director of marketing and communications for the Lake County YMCA. “They can customize their experience and use the $700 any way they like, lodging, biking, boating, golfing or dining in the great outdoors.” 8 mimi | May 2022

All proceeds will go right back into supporting Lake County’s most vulnerable residents. No one is ever turned away from Y membership or programming because of inability to pay.

“Now more than ever, our need is great,” says Dick. “The Chevy Network of Dealers and Classic Chevy have supported us for many years and truly understand the impact we make together in the communities we serve. We are so appreciative.” John McCurdy of The Chevy Network and Classic Chevrolet Mentor says partnering with the Y is a perfect fit with their mission to support local causes. “We are a Lake County business that likes to spend its charitable dollars right here in

Lake County,” says John, noting this is the ninth year they will support this worthy cause. One Sweet Ride “The Silverado LT Crew Cab is a heavyduty truck that’s ideal for busy families,” says John. “It’s loaded with cargo space and all the latest safety features. It also offers smart and convenient storage solutions for all your things.” Valued at over $49,000, the LT Silverado features: • a four-door truck with back row. • seats up to six people. • the OnStar safety communications platform. • advanced trailering system. • Durabed cargo unit. As part of the package, the winner will also receive: • A $700 Ohio State Parks Gift Card

Last year’s Dream Car Fundraiser campaign raised more than $300,000, and with growing need, it is hoped they will raise even more this year. For more information on the parks, and to book your adventure, visit Ohio.gov/ tourism/resources/ohio-state-parks. Last year, Jayne Chebra of Painesville won the Dream Car fundraiser, driving away with a loaded Chevy Traverse LT AWD, as well as two mountain bikes, a bike rack, a $100 gas card and two-night stay at the Barn Inn in Millersburg. “I still can’t believe we won,” she says. “We are taking great care of the car and plan to take it on a few summer trips.”

Think Local, Give with Heart “The Lake County YMCA is one of the area’s largest nonprofits working to better our community,” says Dick. Kelly points out that the Y engages one out of every five households across the county, and that the programs provide a much-needed outlet for social interaction across the board, from kids and teens to adults and seniors. She reports that the funds raised through the giveaway will go toward initiatives including Water Safety programs and the Summer Learning Loss Prevention program, that works with students K-third grade, so they don’t let their reading comprehension skills slide over the summer. “The Y is so much more than fitness centers and gyms, pools and locker rooms. We are a cause dedicated to strengthening (and protecting) the spirits, minds, and bodies of our friends and communities,” says Dick. The 2022 Lake County YMCA Dream Car Fundraiser runs through midnight on Sunday, June 19, ending with a semifinal drawing on Wednesday, June 22, and Final Drawing on Sunday, June 26. There is no cash option; winner takes the car as is. All taxes are responsibility of the owner. Take a virtual tour of the Chevy Silverado Crew Cab, compliments of The Chevy Network and Classic Chevrolet of Mentor, at LakeCountyYMCA.org/ dreamcar. Proceeds from this fundraiser help the YMCA, one of the area’s largest nonprofits focused on engaging individuals and families in youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The YMCA ensures these opportunities are available to everyone no matter their ability to pay, with generous support from community partners and donors. For more information about the Y, visit YMCA.net.

Online ticket sales are now open. The last day to purchase tickets is Sunday, June 19, 2022, at midnight. On Wednesday, June 22, there will be a drawing for 10 semi-finalists (you do not need to be present; semifinalists will be notified by phone), then the final winner will be determined on Sunday, June 26. For every room, style and budget, Lumen Nation has the perfect lighting solution.

by Patricia Nugent

A

delightful play on words, Lumen Nation illuminates a world of lighting for every room and every style, indoors and out. Owner Tom Rafferty has spent his career in lighting and shares his passion daily with customers. He opened the flagship store in North Canton six years ago, and a second one in Akron last year. “With more than 150 manufacturers represented, my goal is to bring to the area lights you wouldn’t find anywhere else,” says Tom. “The selection suits any taste and any budget. What we offer is more than lighting. These pieces are like works of art.” The expansive showrooms are broken up into smaller, gallery-like departments to encourage a relaxed shopping experience. You’ll find soaring foyer chandeliers, dramatic pendant lights, sleek wall sconces, ceiling fans, floor and table lamps, and complementary lighting families for bathrooms.

Tom designed life-sized room vignettes featuring lighting, furniture, wall art, area rugs and designer décor decked out in all the latest styles. And for people who are looking to transform their existing lighting, the showroom also includes a lampshade department where you can custom order the shape, fabric and style of the just-right topper. Better Products, Exceptional Service Tom does not shy away from pointing out the gaping differences between his store and a big box store. “Big box stores certainly have their place in the market. But there’s a big difference between the customer that is swapping out a 3 bulb bathroom light to stage their home for sale and one who is investing in a home renovation and has the opportunity to redesign the function and style of the lighting in that room”, he says. “Those stores tend to offer a narrower selection of lesser quality options but don’t offer a roadmap or tools on how to finish off your space beautifully and with quality products that will last. With the selection I’ve put

together, you don’t have to pay more to get top quality and exceptional service.” And maybe the best news for people who are tired of waiting for practically everything due to shipping delays, Tom reports he can get in almost anything on his showroom floor within a week or two. Decades of Experience Tom and his well-trained staff—who have design backgrounds—are experts at offering a concierge shopping experience. For people who like to make initial selections online, he suggests they put together a wish list from his site, LumenNation.com. “Oftentimes a customer will need help with the imagination it takes to bring a room to life,” he says. “We’ve worked on countless homes over the decades and know what will work well together and fit a person’s unique style. There is a lot to consider when choosing lighting for a room and we are here to help. Everything from ceiling height, wall colors and how the room will be used, all come into play when creating the perfect lighting solution. We can then view their selections within the shop or on a large video screen to see what combination looks the best.”

Focus on the Great Outdoors Exterior lighting has come a long way, and Tom has been there for every step of its evolution. “Nowadays people are treating their outdoor areas like living rooms, and the lighting is what really makes the difference,” he says. “Thanks to LED technology, we’re seeing modern effects such as strips of light on steps, recessed lighting to illuminate a main area, up-lighting to showcase a structure or landscaping element, ceiling fans to cool things down and gas flame fixtures to add ambiance. Color-changing lighting can also set the mood. The options are virtually endless. Even landscape lighting has evolved and become more diverse.” Lumen Nation Montrose is located at 3900 Medina Road, in Akron, just off I-77. Call them at 234-466-0776. North Canton location is located at 4242 Portage Street NW. Call them at 234-347-0109. Visit Lumen-Nation.com for more details on available products and installation.

NOW IS THE TIME TO COVER YOUR GUTTERS!

Oak catkins (above left)—also known as curly Qs and cat tails— and maple seeds (right)—often called spinners, whirly-birds or helicopters.

They’re Baaack! by Mitch Allen

W

hether you call them curly Qs or cat tails, the pollen-filled catkins that fall from oak trees are on their way. So are maple seeds, whether you call them spinners, whirly-birds or helicopters. And this year, look for a bumper crop. “The past couple of years have been mild for maple seeds, but not this year,” says Anthony Alberino, founder of The Gutter Boys. “They’re coming down by the millions.” When we think of gutter cleaning, many of us think of fall leaves. But springtime can be even more troubling. In addition to oak catkins and maple seeds, flower The Gutter pods and petals are also Boys founder Anthony excellent cloggers, along Alberino with a host of other spring debris that collects in gutters. And when clogged gutters overflow, the result can be much worse than stained siding and washed-away mulch. All that water that a proper gutter system normally carries

away from your home can cause flooded basements and damaged foundations. In addition, water in your gutters is the ideal breeding ground for mosquitoes. “Gutter cleaning is easily a twice-a-year job if not three times,” Anthony says. “It depends on which species of trees are in your yard and when they do their thing.” Surprisingly, the best way to clean your gutters is not to clean them at all. Cover them instead. Dirty, Dangerous Work “Gutter cleaning is a dirty and dangerous job that the average homeowner should not attempt,” Anthony cautions. “Although our technicians are well-trained, experienced professionals, we, too, have to be extremely careful up on the ladder. It’s much safer to simply cover your gutters and end gutter cleaning for everybody forever.” The Top-Rated Gutter Cover NCR Consumer Advocacy Group has ranked The Gutter Boys’ Valor Gutter Guards number one in all categories it measured: value, effectiveness, industry reputation, strength, water throughput, durability and “overall.” And not only is The Gutter Boys the exclusive dealer for Valor in Northeast

Northeast Ohio is experiencing a bumper crop of spring debris, including oak catkins and maple seeds, destined to clog the area’s uncovered covers. Here’s how to stop them.

Ohio, they were the number one Valor dealer in the U.S. in 2021, installing more than 10 miles of the top-ranked product. The advantages of the Valor Gutter Guard system include: • A high-flow, stainless steel micro-mesh that lets water in but keeps debris out. This effect is enhanced because the mesh features a raised S-curve that increases the surface area, allowing for the self-shedding of debris. • A vertical louvered frame improves drainage so—unlike horizontal frames—it cannot clog with moss or algae. • The light-weight, aluminum frame won’t warp and doesn’t add extra weight. • The cover is attached to the fascia, not the shingles, so it can’t void your roof warranty. This also adds structural integrity when covered in heavy ice. Plus, it’s attached with stainless steel screws that don’t rust. • A fully-transferrable, lifetime warranty. Gutter Repair, Too In addition to covering gutters, The Gutter Boys also repair them, including dented, broken or damaged gutters as well as hanging,

fallen or missing downspouts. “With our component replacement system, we can replace just the damaged section without replacing the entire system,” Anthony explains. “And many homeowners are wisely opting for 6-inch gutters instead of the standard 5-inch, and 4x5-inch downspouts instead of 3x4. The Bath Authority

Many businesses are in competition for your remodeling project dollar, but few can deliver such an affordable improvement in appearance, maintainability and home value as The Bath Authority. by Bill Yurgen

O

ver the years I have written more than my fair share of home improvementrelated articles, and have come to the conclusion that as with many other consumer products, there are three types of home improvement projects: Good, Better and Best. Good: The Basic is a “just-get-it-done” project that fixes a long-ignored problem for the least amount of cash. Because the undertaking features few bells and whistles, it takes a minimal amount of time to complete. Better: The Big-Box project has the same mission as “The Basic” except it’s marketed to a mass audience, is more expensive, features a few more options, a bit more quality, and you are a bit happier. But between supply chain and scheduling issues inherently involved with selling to a mass audience, installations can drag out, and you may remember your installers by their most often used phrase: “We’ll be back.”

A beautiful installation that requires minimal cleaning effort and maintenance redefines “luxury.”

14 mimi | May 2022

Best: The Neighborhood King Custom project has it all—completely custom designed products and finishes loaded with luxuries. It gives you the ability to create something unique with superior workmanship. This approach is sure to make your neighbors (and your wallet) say, “Wow!” Simply said, home improvement has been marketed in the above manner for years. Until today. We’re living in a new age of innovation and industry disruption regarding what is sold and how it’s marketed to you. Industries like

Senior Style? This walk-in tub and low-threshold entry shower combo featuring subway sim tile, an ultra-durable shower seat, and ample shelves shouts functional elegance.

automotive, cable, optical, mortgage and travel, to name a few, have been turned upside down with new products or hybrid versions of existing products—and the way they’re sold to you. Not only have we come to expect a much-improved product, we expect a superior buying experience, too. Here in the Greater Cleveland area, Michael Strmac cofounded the industry-disrupting Universal Windows Direct with his late business partner William Barr. The pair also are co-founders of The Bath Authority, a hybrid in the bath remodeling trade. The creative team behind the innovative company includes Michael as the visionary, and Chris Dysert, a longtime member of the area home improvement community. His combination of managerial and entrepreneurial talents makes him the perfect general manager. Meaning, he’s the man who makes it happen. Your Bath Transformed – In As Little As A Day Chris explained that their creative child is “destined never to be pigeon-holed” in the good, better, best model. “The Bath Authority can rework a shower or a tub/shower combo in as little as a day,” he said. “And all of our products are made right here in America and backed by a lifetime warranty.” Flimsy Not Spoken Here A good-grade shower remodel may make the same claim, but many companies work fast and cheap by installing flimsy fiberglass panels right over your existing walls and tile. If that sounds okay, remember that those shiny new panels are often being placed directly over porous grout where mold and mildew may be hiding—not to mention any damp drywall areas that often harbor the same. These potential nightmares will be permanently lying in wait, sealed in your walls where they can grow unabated underneath that gleaming surface. The Bath Authority completely removes the shower area drywall and replaces it with the specialized moisture-resistant greenboard drywall most 21st century building codes now require. Your installation is quick, with little to no disruption to your home.

The “wow factor” made obtainable. These Othello Hex Etched panels are wildly popular.

The Better-Than-Better Hybrid Chris noted that before the new wallboard is installed, critical framing is reinforced so The Bath Authority’s built-in shower seats can handle 350 pounds of weight easily. “The impact-resistant polymer panels we use are of a premium thickness, are extremely durable, and feel every bit as substantial as the extra measures we take,” Chris explained. “We can also modify the shower entry for a step-in height as low as one-and-a-half inches.” This product durability means your new seat will never be like a fiberglass version with hairline cracks, and your shower floor won’t bounce when you walk on it. So Easy to Keep Clean It also means that abrasive cleaners are never necessary. A few squirts of a diluted vinegar solution and a microfiber towel cleans and shines your bath like new, year after year. “We create highly realistic grout lines by laser-etching our tile panels to look just like ceramic tile.” Chris said. “Except ours is far more durable and non-porous, so mold can never get a foothold. Your new shower remains looking and smelling like new for decades. Once your Bath Authority shower has been installed, time spent on your hands and knees cleaning grout with a scrub brush is a thing of the past.” A More Fun and Casual Approach to Sales “From its inception, The Bath Authority has been customerfocused—not just in the installation process, but in the sales process as well,” explained Kalvin Harrington, The Bath Authority’s sales manager. “We’ve created a culture where the sales process is fun and informational. The sales consultant often remains the customer’s primary contact throughout the entire process, so we start our relationship off right. We don’t over-promise and we don’t use high-pressure sales tactics. We come to your home with a simple iPad and style samples, not a briefcase full of contracts. People enjoy our approach so much that typically we are invited to stay and design their new bath.”

Luxury Comes to Your Bath “Our design consultants offer myriad possibilities in colors, surface textures, design, and function,” Kalvin continued. “When we leave, the customer has an accurate rendition of their new bath. This is a big deal for those who find it difficult to visualize their dream bath.

Luxurious Canyon Rock smooth-cast polymer with dual rain shower heads and an over-sized base? Yes, please.

These tools and approaches make our job a pleasure. People soon realize that this very affordable fashion-forward upgrade not only increases the value of their home, it provides the pleasure of a great shower every day for years to come.” Mimi Vanderhaven Exclusive Offer Right now is the perfect time to have the experts at The Bath Authority renew the look of your bath or shower. In addition to getting your new bath for $99 a month and a free shower door, they’re offering a $100 Amazon gift card to anyone who has them out to design their bath, whether or not they move forward with the remodel. Gutter Protection Gutter Cover Company can free your gutters from debris and big icicles.

by Kelli Comer

T

he crisp, warm weather of spring in Northeast Ohio is finally here. You are are probably noticing that your gutters need some TLC and are considering getting the ladder out to take care of business yourself. Gutter Cover Company wants to keep you off the ladder. They have not only your personal safety in mind, but also the expertise and skill set required to complete this dangerous task for you—professionally and effectively. If ice-filled gutters, clogged gutters and water back-up have you down, get the problem fixed now—permanently. They have your back all year long, not just in the winter months. Manufactured right here in Ohio, Gutter Topper is a solid aluminum gutter cover system that can handle heavy downpours up to 22 inches per hour and 110 mph winds without failing. Due to a unique sloped and smooth self-shedding design, not even spinners, pine needles, shingle grit or seed pods can clog the gutter. It’s available in 14 colors and also has a patented “bird block” system. With an impressive proven track record of satisfied customers, the team will clean, tighten, reseal and properly align your gutters before installing Gutter Topper over them. New gutters are also available if needed. Proudly locally owned and operated, Gutter Cover Company has been protecting area gutters for more than 24 years, with solutions to keep your gutters clean and free flowing all year. They have an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau along with an impressive track record of satisfied clients.

In addition to Gutter Topper, the company also offers Heater Cap. A patented heat-dispersing plate is installed in your gutters, or on top of the Gutter Topper. Self-regulated heat cables maintain your gutters and downspouts at just above freezing. When heat escapes through your roof, turning snow into water, Heater Cap keeps that water flowing, preventing it from freezing solid and becoming damaging ice. The Heater Cap system is safe and wired directly to your breaker box. It can be turned off with a switch from inside your home. If you don’t need your entire home protected, Heater Cap can treat just the trouble spots. It can also be installed over your existing gutters and many existing gutter guards. “We install Heater Cap over front doorways, roof valleys and any gutters that have a history of ice damming,” says owner Jim Carbone. Wherever Heater Cap is applied, it’s discreet, low-profile and comes in a multitude of colors. Unlike the unsightly prominence of zig-zag wires across your rooftop, Heater Cap blends right in with your gutters and gutter guards. “You might not even see that Heater Cap is there,” notes Jim. “You’ll just see the results of freeflowing gutters—no ice dams or big icicles.” For more information or to schedule your free estimate, call 440-366-0688 or 1-800335-4367, or visit GutterGuard1.com. Save $300 off any Heater Cap or Gutter Topper installation of $1,500 or more when you schedule a free, no-obligation gutter system analysis by June 30, 2022.

More Than Just A Power Washing:

Pristine Clean employs a team of highly trained, uniformed professionals who perform a thorough cleaning of your home while being respectful of you, your family and your property.

by Mimi Vanderhaven

W

hat do you get when you cross warm, wet and dark? The answer: grime—including dirt, mildew, algae and moss. “The warm March and wet April created a perfect storm,” explains Pristine Clean founder Ken Wilson. “Plus, the lack of sunshine in April prevented our siding, roofs and concrete from drying out and that has allowed mold and mildew to run rampant. It’s a busy season already. Our phones are ringing off the hook and our 20 trucks are out in the field all day every day.” Thankfully, over the winter, Pristine added trucks and leading-edge equipment, and remodeled and enlarged their Berea headquarters, all in an effort to increase capacity. And it worked. “We don’t like telling homeowners they have to wait for service,” Ken says. “Instead, we add staff and equipment, become better and more efficient and meet the demand.” Enhanced Curb Appeal Eliminating grime for your home is one of the most affordable ways to make a dramatic improvement in

20 mimi | May 2022

its curb appeal. “Removing dirt, mold and mildew from your siding—along with spider webs and stains on your gutters—makes a big difference,” Ken agrees. “Power washing can return your home to its pristine glory without the hassle and expense of painting or replacement.” Training, Training, Training Unlike many simple home maintenance tasks—such as mowing the lawn or spreading mulch—power washing requires skill, training and experience. Without this professionalism, the amateur can destroy siding, tear window screens, blast away mortar between bricks, kill shrubs and bedding plants, and leave unsightly lines in concrete surfaces. This is why Ken puts so much emphasis on training. “Our training program isn’t once and done,” he explains. “We’re constantly training. We have an intensive two-week course for all new technicians, plus our crew leaders do ride-alongs with all of our techs. Every day they go from job to job helping their team members improve

skills and tweak techniques. It’s the only way we can assure the level of quality that we insist on.” 700 Google Reviews And it must be working. Pristine has more than 700 Google reviews with an average rating of 4.9 stars. “We obviously love getting 5-star reviews, but the most telling feedback is when a homeowner isn’t perfectly satisfied and we circle back and fix whatever the issue is,” Ken says. “Then they change their, 3-star review to 5 stars. That says volumes about a company’s commitment to customer service. That’s what we do. We value our reputation so much. It instills a sense of pride in all that we do.” If you’re wondering whether to power wash your home this spring, know that the service is about more than aesthetics. Yes, a sparkling clean home is important, but power washing is also about protecting your siding, roof and concrete surfaces. Let’s look at all three: Your Siding Without regular maintenance, important parts of your home break down and have to be replaced. “Many homeowners are surprised to learn that vinyl siding is not completely maintenance-free,” Ken explains. “You don’t

A warm March and a wet, sunless April have combined to create more dirt, moss, mildew and algae than we’ve seen in years. Here’s how Pristine Clean can remove it all from your home—safely and affordably.

Add Years to the Life of Your Roof

440-595-3958 have to paint it, but you do have to clean it. Vinyl siding features a UV coating that prevents it from fading and cracking. Grime—that is, dirt, algae and bacteria—breaks down this coating, causing your siding to fade and look chalky. It’s designed to be maintained, not with highpressure blasting, but with soft pressure. We perform a soft-pressure wash using a mild mildew-cide, which helps remove the grime and kill the algae and bacteria.” Your Roof Those black streaks on your roof aren’t dirt, stains from tree debris, or even unsightly mildew. They are gloeocapsa magma, an ancient algae that breaks down your roof by feeding off of the limestone granules embedded in the shingles. “Gloeocapsa magma can dramatically reduce the life of your roof,” Ken cautions. “If you see black streaks on your roof, give us a call. We offer a 100% guarantee to remove all of the algae. And Pristine’s new roof renewal system can add 5-10 years to the life of your roof. It includes a roof wash plus the application of a 100% natural, plant-based bio-oil to restore your shingles’ flexibility and help hold granules in place. It’s an ideal alternative to a costly roof replacement. Your Driveway Northeast Ohio’s harsh winters chip away at our concrete sidewalks and driveways. That’s because concrete is porous, so when water penetrates your driveway then

freezes, it creates cracking and flaking. Pristine’s “Concrete Clean and Seal”—which protects concrete, brick, and paver surfaces—includes a pressure wash of your concrete with a walk-behind surface cleaner and the application of a biodegradable cleanser to gently lift and remove surface marks and contaminants. Then comes an application of a deep-penetrating, siloxane-based concrete sealant, which is absorbed into the concrete to protect the driveway and preserve its longevity. The side benefit is that the process leaves your surfaces free of ugly mildew and moss, particularly in shady areas. Headquartered in Berea, Pristine Clean beautifies homes throughout Northeast Ohio. They are consistent winners of the Angie’s List Super Service Award and are A+ rated by the Better Business Bureau. Call 440-595-3958 to arrange for a free estimate, or visit PristineClean.com. All technicians are bonded, insured and certified by the Power Washers of North America.

Save $130 On Three Services! Right now, Pristine Clean is offering $70 off any single service, $100 off any 2 services, and $130 off any 3 services. The offer is good now through June 22, 2022. Please call 440-595-3958 for a quick, over-the-phone quote or simply visit PristineClean.com.

Before spending a bunch of money replacing your roof, consider a leadingedge roof restoration service. The new, Pristine Roof Renew is an asphalt shingle rejuvenator that extends the life of your entire roof for 5 to 10 years. The soy-based, eco-friendly application works by restoring lost oils to the shingles, dramatically increasing their flexibility and durability. The application also waterproofs the surface of your roof and reduces the effects of oxidation and bacteria growth. Here’s what company founder Ken Wilson said about treating his own roof: “Before we even considered this new service, I tried it on my roof and was astonished at the results. My roof is 15 years old, the shingles were dull and brittle, and grit was coming off. Now, a year later, the color is still rich, the shingles still have good elasticity, and the grit is adhering much better. The service saved me thousands of dollars over a roof replacement, so now we’re offering it to all of our clients whose roofs have seen better days. And with over 12 million tons of non-recyclable shingles filling our landfills each year, it’s an environmentally-friendly option.” MimiVanderhaven.com | mimi

Keep More of Your Money | Exactly Real Estate

Exactly founder Kevin Waise says charging a flat fee for listing and selling a home, instead of a percentage of the sale, is just fairer—and nets the seller more profit.

The Numbers Every homeowner wants to sell for the most money. Here’s how Exactly real estate company can help you to do just that.

by Laura Briedis

W

hen looking for a home, it’s typically all about location, location, location. When selling your home, however, it’s all about the numbers. Maximizing the profit is the goal of most sellers. Exactly real estate company has a business model that does exactly that. This innovative brokerage was founded on the principle of flat-rate pricing. Instead of taking a percentage of the sale, Exactly charges a flat fee while providing the same full-service amenities as other companies. “The real estate industry has changed over the past 30 years, but commissions have stayed the same,” says Kevin Wasie, owner of one of the fastest growing real estate firms in the area. “Our philosophy is more fair and results in higher profits for homeowners.” When selling your house, there are two mandatory fees, regardless if you sell the home yourself or hire a real estate agent: • County conveyance fee, for processing paperwork. In Cuyahoga and Summit Counties, the fee is $4 for every $1,000 of the home’s sale price. In Medina County, it is $3 per $1,000. This fee is usually paid by the seller but can be negotiated. • Title and escrow fees, for the closing protection letter, contract closing fee,

processing fee, settlement fee, title search fee and deed preparation. This usually adds up to approximately $900 that the seller pays. Plus, there is a higher title insurance fee that the buyer and seller typically split and is based on the sale price. If you hire an agent to sell your home, then the third mandatory cost is a real estate broker commission, which locally averages 5.9% of the sales price. “This is where we save homeowners money,” says Kevin. “For example, if you sell your $350,000 home with a traditional real estate agent, the commission due is $20,650. But with Exactly, we charge a $4,800 flat listing fee. If the buyer does have a real estate agent, we help you set a fair commission for their agent. If there is no buyer’s agent, then there is no buyer’s agent commission. Our average client saves about $8,500 when selling their home with us.” To figure out your exact costs and profit, plug in your numbers into Exactly’s free online calculator, at HomeSellingFees.com. For more information or to list your home, call 866-515-6789 or visit ExactlyUSA.com.

ithin the span of just a few months, Certified Life Coach Heather Kuchar has doubled the size of her wellness studio, Healthy Attractions, and formulated and introduced a new product line of dog food and supplements. Whew. Although it’s been an incredibly hectic time, Heather says she’s using it as an inspiration and spreading the message of slowing down to the clients she coaches. She wrote down some of the thoughts going through her mind: “Slow down, take a breath. Life is not a race, but we rush around like maniacs. Every step is part of life and there is life in every step. If we can learn to exhale and slow down into rhythm, we can experience the exhilaration of life. Simply slowing down improves every aspect of our lives.” Coaching Clients Heather is busy this summer doing one-on-one coaching for her clients and teaching yoga in her Zen-like private studio. “Tapping into science-based research on motivation, I teach them the skills to release limiting beliefs and empower their

future,” she says. “What they learn and gain from our work should last them the rest of their lives.” Through three programs—the 2-Week Detox, 6-Week Self Discovery and 90Day Transformation—she collaborates with people to set up a step-by-step action plan customized to their wellness goals.

The fabulous new extension, set to open next month, will include another life coach, a massotherapist and a nail technician. During an initial consultation, she works with clients to pinpoint their food and lifestyle habits that need to change. Then she offers the customized system, support and accountability to help them make a total body transformation. As part of any program, clients enjoy unlimited yoga and guided meditation sessions in the yoga studio. “I think that over the past two years of pandemic, we’ve all been dealing with chronic and residual stress we need to detach ourselves from and move on,” she says.

Intro to the New Digs As soon as Heather found out her neighbor in the building was moving out, she knew she would move in, doubling her studio space. The fabulous new extension, set to open next month, will include another life coach, a massotherapist and a nail technician. “The décor is the opposite of my current studio,” she says. “Warmer colors, with golds and browns and neutrals. In addition to the new practitioners, we will be inviting others, including a new yoga instructor, within the next few months. They all bring special talents to the table.” Part of the new extension will be a retail shopping space devoted to high-end, targeted, anti-aging skincare products, and her own new line of meals and supplements for dogs named for her beloved pooch, 86-pound English Labrador, Baron. “The clean, organic and locally sourced food is better quality than most people eat,” says Heather. “It includes chicken thighs and wild-caught salmon, farmfresh green beans, spinach and carrots, organic rice and sweet potatoes, without any binders.” Healthy Attractions is located at 2747 Crawfis Boulevard, Suite 205, in Fairlawn. Consultations are free. For more information, call 330-962-8715 or visit HealthyAttractions.com.

Baron is the inspiration for a new line of meals and supplements for dogs available at Healthy Attractions. Ingredients include organic and locally sourced chicken, wild-caught salmon, farm-fresh vegetables and more.

Watch the Healthy Attractions Facebook page for announcement of the date for its Open House, planned for July. After June 1, you can stop in to take a tour of the new expanded space and maybe Baron will be there to greet you.

recently asked a patient how she was doing following her first hemorrhoid treatment. She replied that she couldn’t believe how much better everything was. “I feel like I’m wiping someone else’s butt,” she said. I told her she was having an out of booty experience. Now when she goes to the bathroom, she doesn’t have to wipe endlessly to get clean. The puffiness went down and her internal hemorrhoids stopped coming out. There is no more irritation, no itching, no burning and no bleeding. She no longer has to worry about wearing white pants or plan an emergency escape route to get to the bathroom. Her social life has been expanded, and she’s enjoying life again. One thing that surprised her was how quickly the transformation happened. Most people begin to notice improvement even as soon as the day of treatment, with continuous improvement over the next few weeks.

I have two treatments designed to safely eliminate hemorrhoids. One reduces the blood flow that feeds the hemorrhoids, improving inflammation and causing them to shrink. The other is better David suited to removing larger Gutman, MD hemorrhoids. Both take just a few seconds to do. Since they are performed in an area with no nerve endings, they can be administered right in the comfort of my office without anesthesia. There is virtually no pain, no prep needed, there are no major restrictions, and you don’t have to take time off of work. Consultations are free of charge, and our procedures are covered by insurance. To reach Dr. David Gutman of Advanced Hemorrhoid Specialists, call 216-772-4653. He has two office locations: 25200 Chagrin Blvd, Suite 109, in Beachwood; and 2660 W. Market Street, Suite 250, in Fairlawn. To learn more, visit SensitiveCare.com.

Go With a Pro | Encore Garage Ohio

Garage Flooring: DIY or Pro?

by Ken McEntee

R

ecent showers have washed the slush stains off your driveway and fresh spring flowers beautify your yard. The inside of your garage, however, may restore memories of gloomy days, says Mike Padden, owner of Encore Garage Ohio. “Installed correctly, a polymer floor coating will beautify your garage and protect it from salty winter slush and oil stains for a long time,” Mike explains. “An incorrectly installed, low-quality coating can lead to disappointment.” If you’re thinking about tackling your own garage floor project, Mike suggests that you consider the Carl Perkins approach: “Honey Don’t.” He explains here: Q: What does a pro do differently from a do-it-yourselfer? A: We are trained professionals who do this every day. We have the proper equipment and the skill. We start by preparing the concrete surface with a “mini-Zamboni” that scores the concrete, cleaning and refining the top surface to open up the pores, allowing our base coat to penetrate deeply for excellent adhesion.

It is far superior to the acid etching in the DIY kits. Because epoxy is affected by temperature, we use laserthermo guns to monitor the floor temperature. Our trucks incubate materials in cold weather and refrigerate it in hot weather. Quality Mike Padden control ensures a quality installation. Q: What about the flooring materials? A: DIY kits usually come with a diluted, water-based epoxy coating and a miniscule amount of color flakes intended to provide traction and a quality appearance. The DIY material deteriorates quickly—usually within a year—recognizable by hot tire peel up, blistering, cracking and fading. We get a lot of calls to fix floors that homeowners have tried first to do themselves. In the end, do-it-yourselfers may have spent more time and money than they needed to. Call Mike for a no-cost consultation at 330-922-4411 (Akron/Canton areas) or 440-668-8953 (Medina/Cleveland areas). You can learn more at EncoreGarageOhio. com.

ast month we talked about the four new grapes now allowed to augment the traditional red grapes of Bordeaux. Many of you may not be aware of White Bordeaux, which accounts for less than ten percent of all the wine from the Bordeaux region. If you like Sauvignon Blanc, you’ll like a White Bordeaux. “Because red Bordeaux wines receive such acclaim and are therefore at much higher price points, fewer of the grapes— like Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Muscadelle—that make up the white Bordeaux blend are planted there,” says Jim Sperk of the Northern Ohio Wine Guild. “Red grapes make more of a profit for the growers.” Jim says that the new rules that allowed new red grapes to combat climate change have been extended to white grapes as well. These new white grapes are Alvarinho, which makes the delicious

The three types are dry, light and fruity; dry, rich and creamy; and golden colored, rich and sweet. renda, you are strong, smart and resilient. You can tread the terra on your own terms.” Years ago, during some health struggles, local jewelry designer Brenda Glasure was moved by this insightful comment from a friend. This interaction changed Brenda’s perspective, filling her with purpose and resolve. “Tread the Terra is sort of an anthem, reminding me that I have the power to affect change in my life,” Brenda says. Brenda first embarked on making jewelry in the late 1980s. “My husband and I had been living in different states for a few months at that point, as we both had job commitments to tackle,” explains Brenda. “One weekend, a friend showed up at my door with a few bottles of wine, an overnight bag and a boatload of polymer clay. We made all sorts of fun, big earrings.” After this foray into jewelry making, she was hooked. Brenda is largely selftaught but has worked with a few mentors through the years to help expand her metalworking skills. A typical piece of Tread the Terra jewelry begins as a sheet of silver, copper, bronze or gold fill. Due to arthritis in Brenda’s hands, her father, Don Russell, has helped her to adapt her process. He uses a hydraulic press or a weighted mallet with disc cutters to punch out basic shapes from the metal sheets. Brenda then uses these shapes to build her creations. She hammers, forms

and stamps them, often combining them with various gauges of wire. Metal mixing is often seen in her work: sterling silver and copper, copper and bronze and more. She continues with sanding, Brenda soldering, setting stones, Glasure antiquing and the final burnishing. From start to finish, every Tread the Terra piece is handmade. “I love the perfectly imperfect nature of handmade jewelry,” Brenda notes. Heavily influenced by adventure and nature, Brenda’s designs feature blossoms, compasses, maps, vines, leaves, insects and animals. Her pieces have been worn by local news personalities on air and have been shown and sold in juried gallery exhibitions, at BayArts in Bay Village and at River Light Gallery in Peninsula. “The women who own my pieces have a strong sense of themselves. They seek jewelry that expresses their stories in unique ways,” Brenda smiles. “I enjoy creating a necklace or earrings that begin on my workbench, through all the various steps of the making. My part of that story ends when the piece is sold and becomes a part of the wearer’s story. I really love that. It makes me so happy.” To reach Brenda, you can email her at [email protected]. Keep your wine chilled this summer

W

arm, sunny days are finally here and we all want to spend more time outdoors. There’s nothing like sitting on a patio enjoying a glass of wine with friends. But nobody wants to drink hot wine. Red wines are best enjoyed at around 55 degrees, and we like our white wines a little colder. While a wine may start out nicely chilled, a few moments in the sun can really bring up the temperature. Some beverages are fine served in a metal or plastic insulated cup, but wine isn’t one of them. A key part of the wine drinking Susan De Carlo experience is enjoying it in elegant glass stemware in its pure form, without watering it down with ice. That said, if you have time to plan ahead, making ice cubes out of the wine you are drinking is a neat trick, though I wouldn’t try it with a red wine. The goal then is typically to keep the bottle cold and pour smaller servings into each glass. And the best way to keep a bottle cold

is with a bucket of ice or a wine chiller, often made of marble or stainless steel. There is also a tufted version which is a sleeve filled with liquid and stored in the freezer until ready to use. Another option is Corkcicle’s Air Wine Chiller, which is a combination chiller, aerator and pourer. Just freeze it for 90 minutes then insert Corkcicle’s it into your favorite bottle. Air Wine The pour-through feature Chiller allows oxygen to reach the wine for decanting and prevents you from having to remove the cork each time you pour a glass. We typically have both of these items in stock. And speaking of enjoying wine outdoors, the Regency Wine Sellers patio is now open. Come enjoy your favorite glass—in the sunshine.

y wife is a strategic planner by both vocation and genetic predisposition. She’s always ready with a Band-aid or one of those tiny screwdrivers to open the battery compartment of a grandchild’s toy. So I was shocked when she agreed to drive south with me for a belated spring break vacation with no plan—not a single hotel or dinner reservation. On the morning of April 23 (the 40th anniversary of our first date) we just hit the road like Thelma and Louise. We did have a general itinerary: spend the first night in Birmingham, Alabama, and have breakfast the next morning with my wife’s cousin before heading down to Columbus, Georgia, our hometown, to visit her parents for a couple of days. Then we’d scoot across the state to Savannah, up to Charleston, South Carolina, then back to Northeast Ohio. It didn’t happen this way. On the way to B’ham we realized we’d be passing through Nashville, which seemed like a much better place to spend the night, so we booked a room at a swanky hotel featuring a pink interior, a giant Minnie Pearl rug hanging above the front desk, chandeliers made of hoop skirts, and a rooftop bar with a 7-foot tall bust of Dolly Parton serving as a selfie backdrop. In our room, a portrait of Dolly overlooked our four-poster, pinkcurtained bed. Most of the guests were twenty-something young women in miniskirts, cowboy boots, and midriff tops exposing diamond-studded belly buttons and more ink than the local library, so I asked a woman at the front desk if this was some kind of Dallas Cowboy cheerleader convention. “No,” she replied. “Why do you ask?” That evening a Lyft driver took us to a hip oyster bar. He was from Poland via Turkey and was doing a culinary internship at a restaurant in the city. His school gave him the choice of Miami, Nashville or Denver and, like Goldilocks, he thought one was too hot, one was too cold and Nashville was just right. When I told him he was welcome to join us in Cleveland, he asked, “Is that a state?” I wanted to laugh, but quickly realized there are 50 states in our great nation and learning them all is as difficult for him as it would be for me to learn the 44 countries of Europe. To the untrained ear, Iowa and Mississippi—both Native American names—sound just as strange as Moldova and Liechtenstein. That evening my wife’s cousin called to say her daughter’s softball tournament in Atlanta was running long and she would not be able to meet us in Birmingham as planned, so the next morning we drove to my wife’s parents’ house where we enjoyed my mother-in-law’s famous Sunday pot roast dinner. The next night we were supposed to meet 36 mimi | May 2022

R ecipe | The Starving Chef my Uncle Ray and a few cousins for dinner in Phenix City, Alabama, but a sinkhole appeared in the middle of Crawford Road and closed down traffic. My cousins saw the sinkhole as further evidence that we are indeed in the End Times and canceled our dinner in order to stay home and prepare to be raptured. The next morning after visiting my uncle, my wife’s recently paid-off German luxury sedan died in the middle of an intersection and I watched as it was hauled away by a tow truck. A service manager called later to say a bolt holding up a transmission cooling line had fallen out, causing the line to drop against the axle, which rubbed a hole in it allowing our transmission fluid to leak out all over East Alabama.

Potato Salad

The Best Laid Plans by Mitch Allen The repair took three days and cost two mortgage payments. It turns out transmission fluid in said German luxury sedan runs $93 a quart, so I suggested they fill the transmission with Moët & Chandon. It would be cheaper. I saw the car trouble as a blessing, however. We had broken down in front of our former high school, a mile from my in-laws’ house instead of on a mountainous Kentucky interstate beside a runaway truck ramp. Rather than hanging out for three days, we decided to drive to Ft. Walton Beach in the panhandle of Florida. My wife’s parents graciously loaned us their car and four hours later we were drinking margaritas on the beach. It was late-April—after spring break and before summer vacation—so it was easy to get a last-minute, ocean-front room. And because of the timing, there were few kids. The beach was dotted only with the middleaged and moderately obese, so we fit right in. We could struggle to rise from our beach chairs with no fear of judgement. Two days later while sitting on the beach contemplating our departure, my wife held my hand and said, “This is not the plan, but I’ve seen enough antebellum stuff in my life. Can we skip Savannah and Charleston? I want to stay here on the beach with you.” In that moment I fell in love with her again. I texted my father-in-law to ask if he would mind driving the newly repaired German luxury sedan a few more days so we could stay in Florida. He texted back, “Sure. Stay as long as you want. Y’all have fun.” And we did. —[email protected]

his “gourmet-style” potato salad enhances traditional ingredients to take a standard side dish and transform it into the talk of the shindig. All American Potato Salad Prep time: 1 hour plus 2 hours chill time Makes: 6-8 servings Ingredients 6-8 medium- to large-sized red skin potatoes, washed 4 eggs 3 T white vinegar 3 ribs celery, chopped 2 Claussen’s dill pickle spears, finely chopped 1 C Duke’s mayonnaise 1 T apple cider vinegar 1 t whole grain mustard ½ C red onion, finely chopped ½ t dill seed 2-3 T fresh parsley, finely chopped ½ t smoked paprika ½ t prepared yellow mustard Salt & pepper, to taste

Here’s How 1. Wash the potatoes thoroughly. Place whole potatoes into a large pot and cover

with an inch of water. Bring the pot to a rolling boil and cook for 30-40 minutes. You want to slightly overcook the potatoes so that they are firm in the center and very soft around the outside. 2. Prep a bowl with one cup of water and a half cup ice. In a smaller pot, add the white vinegar and eggs. Cover the eggs with an inch of water and bring to a boil, then cover and remove from the heat. Let the eggs continue to cook for another 8-10 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the eggs to the ice bath to cool. Peel the eggs and chop finely. 3. Drain the potatoes. While they are still hot, use a sharp knife to cut into quarters. Place the chopped potatoes into a large bowl. Season with salt and pepper, to taste. 4. While the potatoes are still steaming, add the chopped celery, pickles and red onion. 5. Then add the apple cider vinegar, mayonnaise, whole grain mustard, dill seed, smoked paprika and yellow mustard. Add two tablespoons of fresh parsley and the chopped eggs. Fold together. 6. Chill the potato salad for at least two hours. The flavors will continue to develop as it chills. Garnish with the remaining parsley. Serve as a side at your next summer cookout or barbecue. Enjoy!
