My Career Decision This presentation is about the path of becoming a labor and delivery nurse. It talks about what an L and D nurse is along with pros, cons and the schooling requirements. There is also a school that includes nursing education that I plan on attending. Enjoy!
by Nicole McGinty
Labor and Delivery Nurse Labor and delivery nurses not only help mothers through labor but also take care of the baby right after birth. The labor and delivery nurse generally helps the mother or father hold the baby right after delivery, weighs the baby, checks vital signs, and gets the family acquainted with their new family member.
Job Outlook The projected outlook for registered nurses in 2024 will have grown about a million since 2024. I don't think my job will ever decline because babies are being born all over the world at any time but if it does, I can travel to somewhere where babies are being born or just become a regular RN.
Pros and Cons Pros ● ● ●
Seeing people become parents for the first time Babies (: Expect the unexpected
Cons ● ● ●
Emotionally draining at times Miscarriages or deaths of the baby or mother. Seeing parents not happy
Educational Requirements L&D nurses have to become Registered Nurses first so in order to be a RN the requirements are to have some sort of diploma. Such as going into a diploma program, associates degree or a bachelor's degree. I plan on going for a Bachelor’s Degree so I can have more options for work and where to work.
Schooling Elmhurst University Nursing and Health Services 190 South Prospect Avenue Elmhurst, Illinois 60126-3296 For traditional undergraduates the total cost for a fall/spring term with room and basic board plan is about $46,000. Certain types of federal financial aid are now available to students: Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) and federal work study. Because these programs address the needs of low income students, not all students will qualify.
Why I chose this career I chose this career because i’ve always loved working with children. I volunteer a lot with younger kids and I always have so much fun. My aunt is a psychiatric nurse so I was influenced to become one too but I decided I wanted to be something else but not just a registered nurse so this is perfect for me. This will help me in life for when I have my own children.
