Umrah Trip By: Abdullahi Ali

For most teenagers senior year is a representation of freedom, a symbol of maturity and adulthood. But in some sense it's also the last chance to 'live it up' before life gets serious and priorities are put into perspective. In most schools, events such as prom and pep rallies are the focal points as the year comes to an end alongside the anticipated trip of every senior year; the senior graduation trip. Here at ISNA High School by the will of Allah, the senior class was given the opportunity to perform Umrah and visit two of the most sacred places on earth: The Holy Kaaba and The Prophet's mosque PBUH. It is by far one of the greatest experiences one can have; both spiritually and emotionally. Despite the hardships of the trip, seeing the Kaaba and being able to pray in the same place as the Prophet (PBUH) and the noble Sahabah was well worth it. The trip lasted 12 days and was evenly split between the holy cities of Mecca and Medina. Alongside praying and engaging in other various acts of worship, the students went on tours to relevant sites such as Mount Uhud and Arafat. The students were also taken to the factory where the actual cloth of the Kaaba is made and were walked through the whole process. In spite of the high temperature and dense crowds, the experience was of great need to all the students and served more than just a chance to get away from their families Rather, it served as a stepping stone from which they could grasp the religion of Allah and the ways of his Prophet (PBUH) with more ease and comfort.

MIST By: Muhammad Chabayta

MIST, The Muslim Interscholastic Schools Tournament, truly brings brothers and sisters from all over the GTA under one roof. It is a time for these students to express themselves, let go, and have fun showing off the talents that they have. There are many competitions from business venture to short fiction, from sports to cooking. Even though this year we really didn’t win much but this is a tournament that ISNA students find pride in. Overall it was amazing to see all the effort that was put in by the students and many staff members too. Special thanks to Ala Maher, the school ambassador, for making it possible by working countless hours, Mrs. Zeini for taking her time away from her kids and coming to

support us, Mohammad Batroukh for being an amazing volunteer, and of course Ms. Aslam, Mr. Rasoul, and all the rest of the students and staff that were able to support and come out on those fun filled days.

International Food Fair By: Biya

Over the March Break, while every other student was sleeping in, a handful of dedicated volunteers woke up early to host one of the most successful events of the year. The International Food Fair was held in the gymnasium on March 15th and organized by the Student Council. No wonder it was such a success, right? If there’s one thing the ISNA students are, it’s diverse. There are students from all over the world in our school and we are very proud of that. What a better way to show off our multiculturalism than to share food? The Student Council brought the world together for one Friday and squeezed Turkey, Italy, Iran, America and other various countries into one gym. There was great tasting food everywhere and everyone had a lot of fun. Hungry anyone?

ISNA Boys Basketball Tournament By: Gr.11 students

On Thursday, February 28th ISNA hosted its first basketball tournament in school history. The tournament consisted of six teams from all over the Greater Toronto Area. To accommodate the number of participants, both gyms were used and games ran from 9am till 6pm. Along with the help of official referees and volunteer scorekeepers, the tournament was a huge success. ISNA was 4-1 in the round-robin games, and advanced to the semi-finals where they put in a strong effort winning in overtime. They faced Al-Risala in the finals but came up just short after a back and forth contest. “The team was very poised and had great sportsmanship throughout the tournament even though they came in 2nd place. You could tell they had a lot of fun and that in itself was a success.“ Said a spectator who would rather be addressed as ‘Batman’. Though ISNA’s basketball team was disappointed, they each had a smile on their face to go along with the soaked t-shirts; there was no reason to be sad about their performance. After the medal ceremony, Mr. Rasoul announced that the tournament is going to be an annual event, which brought joy to everyone. Once again: CONGRATUALTIONS ISNA!

Ode to my hands Always moving, always working, They have a mind

Enslaved for life, till death Do us apart.

Of their own yet

My hands flicked and my wrists clicked

They do as told.

I held my posture and followed

My humble hands toil

Through.

And labour.

They speak...

Can wield pen or sword. They can even, Like spinning straw to gold, Spin my thoughts to words. Though we all know gold does not come as easily As the Midas touch. All hail, honorable hands.
