Orange County Clerk-Recorder Department Receives 2018 CSAC Merit Award The California Association of Counties (CSAC) has awarded the Orange County Clerk-Recorder Department with a 2018 Merit Award in recognition of its G2G: Government to Government Recordings Made Easy submission in the category of Government Finance, Administration & Technology. The department received recognition for its efforts to give government agencies the ability to submit document recordings electronically to any participating county using a single computer from anywhere using the G2G component to access the department’s SECURE electronic delivery system. The G2G component to SECURE was created in order to help government agencies enjoy the same benefits that other users of SECURE have come to enjoy. G2G eliminates recording wait times, eliminates the need for envelopes and postage and also eliminates transportation costs. The biggest benefit of G2G is that government agencies now have the ability to submit document recordings to any participating county using a single computer from anywhere. The development of G2G was a collaborative effort with our owner counties – Los Angeles, Riverside and San Diego. Clerk-Recorder Hugh Nguyen would like to thank them for their support and for making G2G a possibility. “I am honored and pleased by this award,” Clerk-Recorder Hugh Nguyen said. “We wouldn’t be able to celebrate this award if it wasn’t in large part due to the hard work, dedication and professionalism of my staff.” This is not the first time CSAC recognizes the department for its innovative spirit. In 2014, CSAC honored the department with a Merit Award for its efforts to make the department’s services more accessible to working families though its once-a-month special Saturday openings – a program that continues to be in effect. Each year, CSAC honors the most innovative programs developed and implemented by California Counties though its Challenge Awards. The awards recognize the innovativeness of California counties in finding effective and cost-saving ways to provide services to their residents. Orange County Clerk-Recorder Hosts 6th Annual Trick-or-Treat Event for Local Pre-School Orange County Clerk-Recorder Hugh Nguyen hosted Hands-Together, a local pre-school, and treated the children to some safe and fun trick-or-treating. This is the 6th year in a row that Clerk-Recorder Hugh Nguyen hosts the event. The children wore their Halloween outfits and trick-or-treated throughout the ClerkRecorder Department’s Santa Ana office. Clerk-Recorder employees volunteered their time and candy and enjoyed the event as much as the children did. This was a fun opportunity for the Clerk-Recorder Department to reach out to the local community. This year Clerk-Recorder Hugh Nguyen invited Auditor-Controller Eric Woolery to participate in the event. Several of the Auditor-Controller's staff volunteered to participate in this year's event and hand out candy to the mini-sized ghosts, princesses and super heroes. Clerk-Recorder Hugh Nguyen would like to thank all staff who volunteered to give candy to the children and also those employees who escorted the children as they trick-or-treated throughout the office. Hands-Together is a public charity group whose goal is to promote academic excellence among preschoolers and prepares them for elementary school.

Simon Tran Each month we are recognizing an employee who goes above and beyond their normal duties and offers excellent service to our customers. The Employee of the Month receives a certificate, has their name placed on a recognition plaque, uses the special designated parking space and may dress casual during their month of recognition. It is with great pleasure that I announce Simon Tran as Employee of the Month for October 2018. During his time with the department, Simon has shown great enthusiasm in his work and has shown that he is professional and quite resourceful. Simon has demonstrated excellent work habits. He is very diligent and thinks outside the box to provide solutions to problems being encountered by the SECURE Electronic Recording Program. In his short time with the department, Simon established a multi-user database to replace the multiple spreadsheets that were being used by SECURE Support staff to keep track of users, tokens and DOJ submissions. With the spreadsheets, SECURE Support staff had to often wait for other team members to close the file before they could access the file and do their own updates. With this new database that Simon implemented, team members are more productive because they no longer have to wait to update the SECURE documentation. Simon has also begun piloting a cloud based web monitor that can check the many SECURE access websites and report statistics or monitor outages. This helps the department stay on top of potential problems. Simon has a wealth of computer security experience which has become a valuable asset to the department. Simon has a positive attitude. He collaborates well with all team members and engages them in problem resolution. Simon has quickly established himself as a valuable asset to the department and he is a great addition to our IT team. Please join me in congratulating Simon on his achievement!
