Flexible Study BCNH - Flexible Study
Active Blended Learning Our BSc (Hons) Nutrition & Lifestyle Medicine is Our BSc Medicine is a part-time course, delivered by Active Blended Learning (ABL). As most of our students are mature students, with a variety of professional and family commitments, ABL offers flexible study options that are not provided by the traditional face-to-face provision. We offer a flexible approach to learning, with all teaching and materials available online, including real-time teaching and support sessions. All teaching material is recorded for students who are unable to join live and is made available to access throughout the programme of study. Online teaching sessions are scheduled for weekends and weekday evenings, designed to fit outside traditional working hours. Live, real-time teaching sessions are combined with online activities which can be undertaken at any time and place – allowing you to take control of your learning.
Our flexible learning strategy aligns with the University of Northampton’s pioneering blended approach and has been practised by BCNH for a number of years. As a result, we have been able to adapt our methods quickly during the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, minimising disruption to students.
Student Support We recognise that online learning can be isolating at times, therefore our active blended learning approach provides you with as many opportunities as possible to interact with other students e.g. via small group taught sessions, formal and informal ‘coffee-break’ webinars, discussion forums and email groups with your peers. Your Personal Tutor will be available via video-conferencing to support you every step of the way throughout your studies, providing both academic and pastoral guidance. In addition to the local support provided by BCNH, BSc students can also access the University of Northampton’s Library and Learning Services, Information Technology Services, and Student Services, providing a ‘supersupportive’ student experience.
Extended Study Period / Study Break As a part-time course, students on the BSc (Hons) Nutrition & Lifestyle Medicine will complete 80 credits per academic year. We recognise, however, that personal circumstances can change significantly and without warning. If your personal circumstances are such that they cause severe disruption to your studies, it is possible to extend your studies (completing fewer credits per academic year) and/or take a Study Break. If you are facing difficulties, the BCNH team will be able to advise you of your options and refer you to specialist academic advisers at the University of Northampton. The maximum time for completion of the programme is 9 years.
