March 7, 2021, THIRD SUNDAY IN LENT

11:00 AM

PRE-SERVICE MUSIC SILENT PRAYER: (Silently as we prepare for worship) God of the covenant, throughout these forty days of Lent, cleanse our hearts of all that is not holy, and cause your new gift of life to flourish once again within us; through Jesus Christ our Redeemer. Amen. WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS: *PASSING OF THE PEACE OF CHRIST: L: The peace of Christ be with you. P: And also with you. PRELUDE: LENTEN CANDLE WREATH L: Light! Without it, we stumble blindly in the darkness. With it, everything is illumined and clear. Sometimes the light is dim, sometimes it flickers, ready to go out. But as long as we have it to guide our path, we are safe. P: Christ is called the Light of the World, and we, as his followers, are instructed to walk in the light as he is in the light. “You are the light of the world! Let your light so shine before men.” L: Jesus was living out his last days, et his light never waivered. If we were in his place, knowing death awaited us soon, would we still reflect the light? P: Would our brightness shine against the darkness of the world? L: And what about now? Does our faith, our light, burn brightly? Or does it flicker uncertainly in the tumult of our daily lives? Would we rather stay in the darkness after the candles are extinguished, or do we yearn for the light? P: For it is light that makes everything visible. This is why the scriptures say, “Wake up, O sleeper, Rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” Let us gather strength from the example of Jesus as he faced the darkness of his own death. *HYMN #38 (red hymnal)

“Immortal, Invisible, God Only Was””

*CALL TO CONFESSION

*PRAYER OF CONFESSION: (In Unison) Merciful God, you give us life, and offer us your steadfast love. Yet we often fail to recognize your presence in our lives, or to respond in gratitude to your love. We create barriers that seem to distance us from one you and from one another. We ask for your forgiveness and your grace, merciful God, for the sake of Jesus Christ. Amen. (A Time for Prayers of Silent Confession) *ASSURANCE OF PARDON: L: We come to you, O God, because we are thirsty. Our spirits need the refreshing water of your word, just as our bodies need the refreshment of a cool drink. We worship you with joy because we can already feel your presence with us. Open our ears that we may hear all that you expect of us. Open our lives to your truth and prepare us to follow Jesus, joining together in a harvest for your realm. Friends, believe the Good News. .P: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. Amen. *AFFIRMATION OF FAITH: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of Heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son Our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into Hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into Heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the Apostles Creed @350AD body and life everlasting. Amen. GLORIA PATRI: (Marsh and Avery) Glory be to the Father And the Son and the Holy Ghost As it was in the beginning Is now and ever shall be World without end Amen As it was in the beginning Is now and ever shall be World without end Amen Amen Amen Amen Amen Amen Amen Amen
