A
t a time when India’s cultural heritage confronts challenges in the face of a rapidly flourishing globalisation, it is important to remember that
our cultural diversity was not built in a day. Centuries of knowledge led to the cumulative deposit of experience, beliefs and values in constructing and maintaining our cultural diversity. Thus, our national inheritance remains unique. The art and culture of our nation are, indeed, a vast continuum, evolving incessantly since time immemorial. Naturally, preservation and conservation of India’s rich cultural legacy is essential. The core of a culture is formed by values. Many such values remain unconscious to those who hold them and therefore they can only be inferred from the way people act under different circumstances.
Centuries of knowledge led to the cumulative deposit of experience, beliefs and values in constructing and maintaining our cultural diversity. Thus, our national inheritance remains unique.
Heroes are persons, past or present, real or fictitious, who possess characteristics that are highly prized in a culture. They also serve as models for behaviour. One of the best ways to preserve our culture is to keep alive the memories of these heroes and share it with others through dedicated centres of learning, archives, libraries and museums. Only then will it help build cultural awareness in future generations and preserve the legacy passed down to us by our ancestors.
