Timber Greens President Report Just some random thoughts for April, the start of Spring; The Golf Course is looking the best it has ever been thanks to Golf Course Superintendent Dave Husar and his staff. The cart path project for this year will be ending shortly and the newly paved areas are a big improvement. Last month, Dane Woytek wrote an excellent article explaining the process residents have should they have unresolved disagreements with their neighbors. The Conflict Resolution Committee is available should it be needed. But, I would encourage residents who have an issue with their neighbors to first try talking with the other residents and informing them in a nice, civil way what the problem is .Very likely they are not aware of the issue and if informed will try and make a change that will resolve the issue. Another situation that I need to discuss is residents that are having a problem with staff or servers at the clubhouse. The most effective way to address this dilemma is to contact any of the current Board of Directors or General Manager, Mr. Dingus. They will then follow the chain of command to properly address the staff member or server directly to correct the problem. This is really the best procedure because it limits residents having direct conflicts with the staff and no hard feelings are experienced, or in plain language we don’t want residents getting in an employee’s face. Let a Board member or Mr. Dingus handle it. March has been quite a challenging month for the BOD and staff since Mr. Dingus has been out of pocket recovering from his recent surgery. I would personally like to thank all staff, Department Heads and fellow Board members for stepping up their game to keep Timber Greens going in the right direction during Mr. Dingus’ absence. It was quite an education to see what Mr. Dingus does every day and he has assured me he is looking forward to getting back to his normal duties very soon. I am truly happy to see him soon to do just that.

General Manager Report - Board of Directors meeting, March 28, 2022 First of all, I would like to thank everyone who was kind enough to send either a card or a prayer for my recent open heart surgery. Everything went as planned and I plan on returning to work very soon. February was a very successful month compared to budget. Although golf revenues were slightly down per our very aggressive budget, we still generated over $110,000 in golf play. This was accomplished in a short month with a few cold days which reduced play. Food and Beverage sales were up over $4,000 compared to budget and it looks as though support is continuing to be good. Labor was good but we still have a shortage of staff in both the kitchen and with servers. Alan and Keith have been busy around the clubhouse with painting projects and upgrades. We were able to replant the Wilderness entrance and will continue to look at improvements to common grounds as the weather continues to warm up. Tree work also continues in and around the community. We will be grinding all existing stumps in the next couple of weeks. The cart path project continues to move along. The work has now moved to holes 5, 6 and 7. Then we are also going to replace all the transition plates in the curbs with asphalt. We feel this could be a long term fix and should help with noise and bouncing issues. After completion of these holes and the transition plates, the cart path project will be finished for this year, per the budget. We plan to finish the rest of the paths early next year. In my absence, it is very gratifying to see how the staff has stepped up. I would like to thank all the department heads personally and especially Laure who has worked tirelessly in getting out the communication to the Board of Directors on a daily basis helping with swift actions on any and all issues. Again, thank you to all who took the time to send a card and see you soon! Rick Dingus, General Manager

Operations Total

Total Operations results are ahead Plan by $11K for the month. G&A results were $6K above Plan for the month due fitness fees collected at the first of the year, reduce labor expense and missing accounting/supplies expense. F&B results were ahead of Plan for the month $5K as gross margin on food and beverage were $4K better than Plan and labor cost were in check $2K less than Plan. Common Grounds Expense exceeded Plan $4K due higher electric charges and extra repair and maintenance costs. Community Patrol labor costs are below Plan $2K until we reach a full staffing level. All other departments are currently spending slightly below Plan for the month. In addition to the monthly variances, Total Operations YTD is $7K beyond Plan expectations. This is primarily due to the Golf Center merchandise gross margin $2K, low labor costs $2K due to staffing and handicap service $6K lower due to an inaccurate budget forecast offset by a lack of Resident play $5K. Liquidity ratio is remains high at 4.90. February Reserve expenditures of $15K were for $7K Sidewalk repairs, Food equipment $2K, $3K Shutters, $2K Rewiring two ponds, and $1K Wall and Fence repairs.

Board Motions—Wednesday, March 17, 2021 A Motion was made by Dane L. Woytek and seconded by Steven P. Wolfe to approve the bid from Best Fence on Nature Coast, Inc. in the amount of $1,475.00 to install new lighted arms on both sides of the exit lanes at the Main Entrance of Timber Greens. Funds to come from Reserves. Discussion: Residents have voiced a safety issue when exiting the Main Entrance late at night when the gate arms are down and the arms are hard to see. It is the hope of Community Patrol that lighted arms will prevent residents or guests from hitting the arms, once in the down position, when exiting. Vote:

A Motion was made by Steven P. Wolfe and seconded by Dane L. Entertainment’s Joey Sprecher had resurrected this committee and had an outstanding year, but he has informed the current Board Liaison that he would not be continuing as chairperson into 2022. The committee is now searching for a new chairperson. Vote:

Board Motions—Wednesday, March 17, 2021 A Motion was made by Howard Kahn and seconded by Steven P. Wolfe to approve the following to continue on the Golf Advisory Committee: Chairperson-Jeff Mathieu; Membership Kevin Addington, Frank Feocco, Kathi Keller, Kevin McLaughlin, Marci Paige, and William Wallace. Discussion: Per the Bylaws of Timber Greens HOA it is required that every year the Board of Directors approve the members to the Golf Advisory Committee. Vote:

A Motion was made by Dane L. Woytek and seconded by Steven P. Wolfe to approve the bid from Webstaurant Store to purchase a Turbo Air Sandwich Prep Refrigeration Unit, Model TST-72SD-30-N in an amount not to exceed $5,800 to replace existing unit. Money to come from Reserves. Discussion: The existing unit is eight years old and beginning to fail and requires replacement. Additionally, the above mentioned unit price will increase by 6% on April 15, 2022. Vote:

Aye: 5,

Motion carried.

A Motion was made by Howard Kahn and seconded by Dane L. Woytek to approve the following policy and that it be included in the Major Rules and Regulations.

Political flags, banners, or pennants can be displayed by homeowners for federal, state, county, and local elections; for both general and primary elections; during a timeframe of thirty (30) days prior to the election and removed seven (7) days after the election. The flags, banners, or pennants must specifically pertain to candidates or issues represented on the ballot that will be voted on. These cannot contain or imply any profanity or foul language; must be within the homeowner’s property; cannot create obstructions or other safety hazards; and none can be larger than 4.5 by 6 feet. Discussion: Timber Greens has a history of acknowledging certain holidays and allowing a specific time frame when decorations or other related items can be displayed and limits the time of that exposure. Using this as a precedent the BOD of Timber Greens HOA has decided that elections are important and residents that choose to display political flags have a First Amendment Right to do so. The policy is designed to limit the time the flags can be displayed. Vote:

Aye: 5,

Motion carried.

Health & Wellness

The sand cranes have blessed us with chicks, the golf course is green (though the ponds could use some rain), we are living the TG dream. The Health and Wellness Committee urges you to update your TGVIP health history forms and consider the Knox Home Box. Keeping with this thought, have you updated your emergency contact information with Sandy in the club house? Remember in an emergency always call 911.

We have also compiled a registry of medical equipment that is available to borrow if you need. Perhaps you need a walker for a few days. Just call Michele Chirillo at 702 524 4684. She mans the registry and can put you in touch with someone who has what you might need. If you have some equipment to lend Michele would love to hear from you as well. Keep moving and stay well!

Timber Greens Women’s Club Hi Ladies, It is hard to believe this is my next to the last Green Scene article. Time does fly. In May we will be turning over the helm to your new board: Sue Devlen and Susan Esposito, Co-Presidents, Judy Durant, Secretary/Treasurer, Lena Gloshinski, Corresponding Secretary, Chris Landelius, Parliamentarian, Sue Cano, Membership Chairperson, and Margaret Mardyniak, Social Chairperson. Please give them the support you have given all the boards these past eight years. Our March luncheon was exceptional. Chef Adam outdid himself with his demonstration of lobster bisque and beef and salmon wellington and as good as the demo was, the final product was even better - a gourmet delight. Many thanks to Adam and Donna and her staff for a wonderful luncheon. I am proud to report that we were able to donate eight boxes of clothing to Marjorie's Hope: tuxedos for young men for prom, gowns for the young ladies and suitable clothing for teachers in addition to our primary goal of toiletries and sanitary products for these young people. Debi Shackowsky was present to accept and was most grateful for our generosity. By the time you read this we will have gone to the Early Bird Dinner Theater. This has always been a fun outing and I'm sure it didn't disappoint.

“Music of Our Lives”

April and May are going to be busy. You will be getting a flyer soon for a fun afternoon - "Music of Our Lives" and a throwback luncheon. Hope to see you there. Our day trip will be an outing to Dunedin with lunch at the lovely Bon Appetit and some shopping afterwards. Our last luncheon will be our Garden Party with Caroline Wetterlund at the piano. We met Caroline at our first meeting in September and she is delightful. It IS a garden party so let's gussy up for the party hats and dresses, maybe? Our final "day trip" will actually be in the evening - dinner at Brix 33. We have always had a wonderful time there. I'm sure it will not disappoint and it's practically around the corner. Hoping to go out on a high note. Meanwhile, stay healthy and safe. Best, Terry Katz "Always be a first rate version of yourself, instead of a second rate version of someone else." Judy Garland

MAH JONGG Monday, April 4th 10:00 am to 2:30 / 3:00 pm All Timber Greens’ Mah Jongg players are invited to attend the Mah Jongg socials in the Clubhouse card room on the first Monday of each month. Beverage station of coffee, tea & water ($1 charged to your account). Lunch intermission at 12 noon. Any questions? Call Pat Foster 727-372-0307 or text 727-534-3803

Pickleball: Timber Greens Popular Sport Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the U.S. and popular with Timber Greens seniors, offering a good workout year round with low-impact on joints. The game is a mix of tennis, ping pong and badminton. The racquet is the size of a ping pong racquet but has a longer handle; the ball is whiffle-like and the court is about half the size of a tennis court or a doubles badminton court. COME JOIN US!!! We will help you learn! Call Kevin Mahoney @ 727-849-3643 or 727-243-6230

Some pics from our Pickleball Social held on February 1st. Had almost 40 people attend our Pizza dinner…we played hard…ate great…and had tons of fun!!! Also had our “First Annual Kevin Mahoney “Dinkathon” Competition” and presented great plaques to the winners!

Golf Superintendent Report

-Greens made it through the winter with minimal damage. We recently verticut and then topdressed with sand to help fill in any thin areas from the winter months. A soil test and a water test were done in March and the nutrient levels in the soil were as needed. The water test came back with high levels of salts, bicarbonates and chloride but we knew that because we used reclaimed water for irrigation. Luckily paspalum has a high tolerance for salts so it doesn’t create much of an issue. Suggestions to reduce bicarbonates and chloride include adding calcium, aerification, and flushing also known as rain. Our nutritional spray program has been working and only minor changes will be made including adding more calcium. Check out the roots on this picture from #3 green.

-The cart path restoration project is well underway on the course. There will be plenty of signs and ropes to direct golfers where to go to avoid the construction areas and workers. It will be a temporary inconvenience while they are out here but the paths need to be fixed and it will be better for the future. -We sprayed out the annual bluegrass in the tees a few weeks ago and did the fairways recently. Annual bluegrass is a cool season weed that was going to check out on its own eventually. I wanted to spray it out so that it would be gone by the time we had our wall to wall fertilizer application (March 31 st). Now the bermuda grass would take up the nutrients instead of competing with the bluegrass for them. I anticipate a much smoother transition period this year. The ryegrass transition back to Bermuda grass will be happening shortly. -After the club championships we will start aerifying the rough and high traffic areas to help them recover and grow in. Our next greens aerification is May 26th. -One thing I want to try on the course this summer is to let some rough areas that aren’t directly in play grow up higher this year and let the pond edges grow up. This will help some bare areas in the rough fill in and help stop nutrients and pesticides from running off into the ponds. I am hoping this may help our ponds have less algae problems. Feel free to email me if you have any questions or comments at [email protected] -Dave Husar
