Online Learning : ​Common Misconceptions and Benefits and Challenges.​ Nova Science Publishers, Inc, 2014. Richardson’s eBook includes various issues that go along with online learning. These issues consist of challenges, misconceptions, and benefits. This eBook contains many themes about online learning such as student and instructor supports, instructional approaches, current trends and emerging technologies, reaching new audiences, and planning for the online learning environment. It discusses a handful of topics such as supporting the instructors, student readiness, and measuring student learning. Richardson’s eBook is a very useful source. Richardson offers a great amount of information about online learning. Its main goal appears to be to discuss the challenges and misconceptions of online learning, but also the benefits of it as well. Unlike other sources, this source includes both positive and negative effects of online learning. This source is very helpful and can shape an argument by offering information and evidence about online learning. This source can be used as evidence because it explains how it can be as good or even better than face-to-face learning. This source can alter an individual’s perspective on online learning by persuading them more towards online learning rather than face-to-face.

Cavanaugh, Joseph K., and Stephen J. Jacquemin. “​A Large Sample Comparison of Grade Based Student Learning Outcomes in Online vs. Face-to-Face Courses.​” Online Learning, vol. 19, no. 2, Mar. 2015. Cavanaugh and Jacquemin’s academic journal includes a study that consists of a dataset that includes over 5,000 courses taught by over 100 faculty members over a period of ten academic terms at a large, public, four-year university. This study was used to compare and analyze grade based learning outcomes between online and face-to-face course formats.

This academic journal is a very useful source. The goal of this source is to provide and compare a great amount of data and information about the GPA’s of students taking online courses and face-to-face courses. Unlike other sources, this source is mainly about comparing and analyzing studies and data. This source is very helpful. It fits into online and face-to-face learning research because it provides data and evidence on two different learning formats. This source can help shape an argument by providing evidence and examples of the differences between online learning and face-to-face learning. This source can be used in a research project as facts and data about why online learning is just as good as face-to-face learning.

Emily Stark. “​Examining the Role of Motivation and Learning Strategies in the Success of Online vs. Face-to-Face Students.​” Online Learning, vol. 23, no. 3, Sept. 2019. Stark’s article is mainly about the motivation needed for online learning. It includes a meta-analysis of research and a questionnaire about the student’s studying strategies. It discusses many topics such as student flexibility, motivation, and the characteristics of students. This source is very useful. Its main goal is to compare the motivations and learning strategies of online and face-to-face students by using the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire. It claims that motivation plays an important role in a student’s success in taking online courses. Unlike other sources, this source brings attention to the motivation of students and how it can affect their learning. This source is helpful for research about online learning. This source can shape an argument by discussing one challenge to online learning. It can be used in research by providing useful information to explain the challenges online students face while taking online courses.
