McDonald County is located in the southwestern corner of the U.S. state of Missouri. The county was organized in 1849 and named for Sergeant Alexander McDonald, a soldier in the American Revolutionary War. The county has three sites on the National Register of Historic Places, including the Old McDonald County Courthouse and the Powell Bridge.

Anderson is currently growing at a rate of 0.05% annually and its population has increased by 2.04% since the most recent census, which recorded a population of 1,961 in 2010. Spanning over 2 miles, Anderson has a population density of 880 people per square mile. The average household income in Anderson is $52,655 with a poverty rate of 27.15%. The median rental costs in recent years comes to $632 per month, and the median house value is $79,000. The median age in Anderson is 35.2 years, 32.8 years for males, and 37.9 years for females. For every 100 females there are 96.9 males. History of Anderson, Missouri The History of Anderson dates back to 1886 when Robert Anderson opened a general store and a post office which he named Anderson. The first settlement in the area was at Beaver Springs.

The town of Anderson began growing after the railroad was extended from Goodman through Anderson to Noel. Marshall E Meador platted the town of Anderson. Anderson was incorporated into a city on December 7th, 1909. E.T. Doty served as the first mayor and J.W. Towner became the city marshall.

The strawberry industry had its beginning in the fall of 1903 when berries were shipped from the Anderson Co-Operative Fruit Growers Association. This industry would grow until Anderson became known as the “Strawberry Capital of the World”. In the early 1950’s, however, this local industry waned due to severe competition from the Western/Southern states. The Chamberlain Canning Company canned millions of fresh vegetables from around the area. The Seven Valley Cheese Company also processed milk from the area farmers. Due to excellent rail connections, Anderson boasted a Hatchery and Feed Mill.

There were two banks in the area, the State Bank of Anderson and the Farmers Bank. It was not until December, 1944, that the Anderson State Bank was chartered. Anderson also has one of the oldest churches around. The Anderson Baptist Church was formed in 1848. It was not until 1906 that the Christian Church was formed. The Lyric Theater provided much entertainment for the area. The Lyric Theater is still in operation but is now known as The Flick Theater. The first car brought into the county was an EMT-30 made by Studebaker and purchased by L.L. Barnes who later went into the car business.

George Tatum was a pioneer in the field of merchandising. He established the Tatum Mercantile and later Tatum Motor Company. In 1905 C.O. Brady, a veteran jeweler and optician, opened his first business. That business is still in operation today, located on Main Street and known as Brady’s Jewelry. In September 1940, Anderson’s National Guard Unit Battery E, 203rd Coast Artillery was called into service for World War II. On March 15th, 2003 the 203rd was once again called into duty in Iraq where they served with honor. They returned to Anderson on July 20th, 2004. Several of the early family names listed above still have flourishing businesses in Anderson, today.

HISTORY OF GOODMAN

Goodman is the northernmost town located in McDonald County. The town has 5 Retail stores, 6 Industries, 8 Service Businesses. 2 Convenience Stores, 2 Banks, 1 Trailer Park,1 Gas Station, 2 Managed Care Homes, a Senior Citizen apartment complex and a Post Office. Goodman was the fruition of the first penetration of the railroad into the county. This area was the first to experience the impact of the construction of the Kansas City, Pittsburg and Gulf Railroad in the county. A depot was built just inside the county in the Village of Donahue, later known as Goodman. The name was changed in honor of Lowell Goodman, one of the owners of the Ozark Orchard Company. Orchards covered more than 2,500 acres in Goodman and surrounding areas. Strawberries were also important to the early Goodman economy. The orchards and strawberry fields are gone, but the community remains.

Spanning over 1 miles, Goodman has a population density of 954 people per square mile. The average household income in Goodman is $55,890 with a poverty rate of 19.71%. The median rental costs in recent years comes to $670 per month, and the median house value is $61,100. The median age in Goodman is 35.9 years, 34.8 years for males, and 36.1 years for females. For every 100 females there are 90.1 males.

History of Pineville Pineville was originally named Maryville, and under the latter name was laid out in 1847. The name was changed to Pineville in 1849 since another community already had the name of Maryville. Some say that the community of Pineville, Missouri was named for a grove of pine trees at the original town site, while others believe the name is a transfer from Pineville, Kentucky. On August 17, 1897, Pineville was the site of a bank robbery which was one of the few at that time that involved a woman as an active participant in the actual robbery. Cora Hubbard, who was 20 at the time, John Sheets, a 23-year-old from Missouri, and 31-year-old Albert Whitfield "Whit" Tennison robbed the Mcdonald County Bank stealing a total of $589.23 (the equivalent of $15,700 in 2009 on the Consumer Price Index scale). All three were soon captured and imprisoned. The county's historic Old McDonald County Courthouse, which is operated as a museum by the McDonald County Historical Society, was named to the National Register of Historic Places on May 1, 2012.

The City of Pineville, Missouri, is located in extreme Southwest corner of Missouri at the junction of ‘Three Rivers’. The Little Sugar Creek and Big Sugar Creek merge and form the Elk River. Pineville sees thousands of tourists each week who visit our many public river access points and campgrounds. This growing community is just seven miles north of the Arkansas state line. Population projections estimate Pineville has tremendous growth potential in the immediate future because the urban sprawl from northwest Arkansas continues to move north at a rapid pace. Pineville leadership is working diligently to promote and provide opportunities for business growth. Pineville, Missouri is also the County Seat for McDonald County, Missouri, and the “Tourist Welcome Center” in the “New City Hall” right off the square.

We're In The Movies Jesse James (1939) was almost entirely filmed in Pineville. The sequel Belle Starr (1941) was also filmed here. Every year to celebrate the movie being made here we have Jesse James Days, which consists of a nightly Carnival, Arts and craft booths set up around the old Square, a cook shack, a Frisbee throw nightly for the kids (which will have prizes attached to them), a Parade, a B-B-Q Chicken Dinner, a Bank Robbery, nightly Music, and many, many more events that are too numerous to mention. The money that is raised goes to the Fire Department to operate on for the next year. This event takes place in August each year, for more information please feel free to contact City Hall.

Annual Events in Pineville FALL FESTIVAL The Festival will take place on October 10th 10am-4pm it will be scaled back some this year due to COVID-19. Music has been booked, schedule is being created, door prizes are secured great things are in store. Make plans to attend a great event over 50 vendors are already signed up and confirmed. Vendor spots have now closed. We are full and excited for how many people plan to join us this year! The City is very excited to add this to our downtown square. The lighting will then take place after the parade is done. The evening concludes with pictures with Santa and a chili dinner. History of Noel

A post office called Noel has been in operation since 1886.[6] The community was named for C. W. and W. J. Noel, stockmen and owners of a saw mill.[7]

Noel later capitalized on its Christmas-themed name, along with North Pole, Alaska, Christmas, Michigan, Santa Claus, Indiana and Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Each year, tens of thousands of Christmas cards and letters are sent to the USPS Noel Post Office during the holiday season to be stamped with a postmark reading, "Noel, Mo. 'The Christmas City in the Ozark Vacation Land.'" This practice became popular by the late 1940s when Kate Smith, a radio and television singer, began telling the "Noel Story" during her broadcasts.[8]

Noel is home to a Tyson Foods plant, where chicken is processed for human consumption. By 2010, between 400 and 500 Somali refugees, and 60 and 70 Sudanese refugees, out of 1,800 residents, lived in the town, most of whom worked for Tyson Foods.
