Our second Showstoppers Holiday Club was again organised with our two churches and St Richard’s. There were around 30 children attending each day – which meant the organisers worked harder than ever! Our general theme was animals – so over the week we heard about the snake (the Garden of Eden and how God looked after Adam and Eve and loved them even though they sinned); the lion (Big Bad Brian the lion and Daniel in the lion’s den); the fish (the feeding of the 5000); the cockerel (Peter’s denial of Jesus and how Jesus forgave him); and – with the help of the Saints Alive puppets - the caterpillar turning into a butterfly (and the message God loves you just the way you are – but he hasn’t finished with you yet.) 17

Each day ran from 10am – 2pm and included singing songs, hearing a Bible story, games, craft activities, biscuit-icing, chime ringing, and treasure hunts. Once again we are grateful to All Saints’ and St Richard’s School for allowing us use of the school facilities and to all the people who came along and helped each day. On the final Friday there was an evening get together during which parents had the chance to hear about what the children had done and to see examples of the crafts they had made. In addition to the “seasonal” one- off reunion events we organise during the year we are hoping to be able to start doing something like Showstoppers on a more regular basis. Prayers about how this might develop would be appreciated. Please do pray for all the children who attended and their families – we would like to feel they have something to come to more frequently. 18

Mnemonics! This month I am going to concentrate on those of us who regularly experience the joys and frustrations of using a computer. Now be honest. How many of you have, grinding teeth furiously, had to click on the little question: Forgotten your password? Of course, there are those who use the same one for everything, but that really is unwise, especially when money is involved . . . Or keeping all the different words in a little notebook, which is fine until either you can’t find it, or you failed to write down the very password you are looking for. . . And how many of us have shouted ‘Why do I need a password for THIS??? There’s NOTHING that needs to be private or secure about it! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!’ Not all that long ago, the wisdom was that all passwords should have numbers and signs as well as letters, which just made me laugh and not even try, knowing that unless it was actually engraved on the computer screen I would never be able to type the same thing twice. The other day however, I read something password-related that was really sensible! There being many, many thousands of words in the English language, if you string three unrelated words together, it is highly unlikely that anyone would be able to work out what they are. And if you make a sandwich, keeping the same ones on the outside and putting one related in some way to whatever you need the password for [e.g. breadrailwaydoorstep, breadrobindoorstep], you might find you can keep your temper better when you are about to embark on an online transaction. I do hope this idea helps… Kirsty Steele 25
