ABSTRACT

Slideshare leads educators and students to create amazing presentation. It comes in many formats such as .ppt, .pdf and many more. Users can share their presentations either publicly or privately. If they prefer one of the ways that have been mentioned, they can simply set it by their selves and change all its details. People who have money problems can use SlideShare because it is suitable for all and there is no need to spend even a penny. SlideShare has a unique way of presenting your materials. Using Slideshare, users can put their presentations into something that no other medias can give.

INTRODUCTION

SlideShare is a Web 2.0 based slide hosting service. Users can upload files privately or publicly in the following file formats: PowerPoint, PDF, Keynote or OpenDocument presentations. Slide decks can then be viewed on the site itself, on hand held devices or embedded on other sites. It was launched on October 4, 2006. This website is considered to be similar to YouTube, but for slideshows. The website was originally meant to be used for businesses to share slides among employees more easily, but it has since expanded to also become a host of a large number of slides that are uploaded merely to entertain. Although the website is primarily a slide hosting service, it also supports documents, PDFs, videos and webinars. SlideShare also provides users the ability to rate, comment on, and share the uploaded content. The current list of SlideShare’s investors includes Venrock, David Siminoff and DevKhare.

The SlideShare achievement is On May 3, 2012. SlideShare announced that it was to be acquired by LinkedIn. It is reported that the deal was $118.75 Million. In December 2013, SlideShare revamped its site offering more of a visual spin on the homepage, including larger images. This make the SlideShare be more successful media. In February, 2011, SlideShare added a feature called Zipcasts. A Zipcast is a social web conferencing system that allows presenters to broadcast an audio/video feed while driving the presentation through the Internet. Zipcasts also allows users to communicate during the presentation via an inbuilt chat function. Zipcasts do not currently support screen sharing with the presenter, a feature available in competing paid services like WebEx and GoToMeeting. Additionally, presenters using Zipcasts are not able to control the flow of a presentation allowing viewers to navigate back and forth through the slides themselves.

The founding team is Rashmi Sinha, the CEO and co-founder of SlideShare is responsible for partnerships and product strategy. She was named amongst the world's Top 10 Women Influencers in Web 2.0 by FastCompany. There is some personal live about the CEO and co-founder of the SlideSare, Rashmi Sinha. She is an Indian-American businesswoman and CEO of Francisco-based technology company, SlideShare. She has done 6   

her PhD in Psychology from Brown University, meanwhile for M.A. in Psychology and B.A. at Allahabad University. After earning a PhD in cognitive neuropsychology at Brown University, she then took computer science courses with Andy van Dam, so she had some exposure to the HCI (human-computer interaction) way of thinking. She took a course in designing educational software. Rashmi Sinha went to University of California, Berkeley for a postdoc where she switched her focus to human-computer interaction. She then left academia to start her own user-experience consultancy. Rashmi and her husband were the one who built the SlideShare, a site for people to share presentations online, in just six months. Since its launch in 2006, more than 9 million presentations have been uploaded their materials into SlideShare.

Jonathan Boutelle is the CTO of SlideShare and came up with the initial idea behind SlideShare. He wrote the first version of the site. AmitRanjan, the COO heads SlideShare's development team in India and focuses on product management, content and community. The website gets an estimated 58 million unique visitors a month, and has about 16 million registered users. SlideShare was voted among the World's Top 10 tools for education & elearning in 2010. SlideShare's biggest competitors include Scribd.com, Issuu and Docstoc. Some of the notable users of SlideShare include The White House, NASA, World Economic Forum, State of Utah, O'Reilly Media, Hewlett Packard and IBM.

HOW TO USE SLIDESHARE.

First of all, you need to go to http://www.slideshare.net. Make sure that you have fast internet connection that is working perfectly. Let us start with how to sign up the SlideShare account. On the top of the page, you will see the sign up box like the photo shown above. Click the “Signup” button to proceed. Before you sign up, you need to fill in all the blank boxes given with your information. Fill in your email address using yahoo or gmail account, put in your username that you use to login the account and your password and make sure the username is still available. Then, security question will paear. You have to type the exact answer in the security question box to enable you to sign up. Next, click the “Signup” button if you are done. There is another option where you can sign up using your Facebook account.

If you already have Slideshare account, you can just click the link at the bottom of the page. After you click the link, this section will appear. It requires you to fill in your username and your password. You can either choose to keep your account login or you can untick the “Keep me logged in” button to log in manually. Then, click the “Login” button to go into your account.

Hover at the icon that looks like a human and click “Account Settings” to edit details about yourself. Upload pictures by clicking “Upload New Image.”. Choose the account type. It can be set to default or university/school. Then, you fill in all your details. After done filling in your details, click the “Save” button to save your information about yourself. And now, you can start to upload your materials but first, you have to find the upload button on top of the page. Click the “Upload” button to upload materials. In order to upload materials from your computer, click the “Upload” button. You can choose to set the materials to public or private.

You can also upload their materials from Dropbox, Google Drive or Gmail with simply click on those icons. A box that contains this word “upload a file from DropBox” will appear after you clicked on Dropbox, Google Drive or Gmail icons. For you to create stunning presentations, click the pixie dust-like button on the top of the page besides upload button and it will lead you to the section as shown above. Then, you can start to create your presentation after clicking “Get Started” button.

Haiku Deck site will appear to show that you need to agree with the process of creating your slideshows. All you have to do is click the “Accept” button. Now, you can start to create your own presentations. Insert any text that you want and you can also add more slides if you want to. On the first section, you can select between the five types of slides given.

The Gallery is the second section. You may choose background that you desire for your slides or you can upload pictures from your computer by simply clicking on “My Pictures”. You can also turn your presentations into charts if you want to make a report or statistics on something. You can turn your background or fonts into colours you like for instance, red, blue, yellow, green, grey and many more colours by choosing it like the box shown.

Next, choose layout that you desire the most. Choose the most suitable layout for your presentations that can make it more beautiful. After you have finished doing your slides, click “Publish” or you can preview it by clicking the paused-like button beside the “Publish” button. After that, the slideshow that was done before will appear. To edit the details of the slideshow, click “Edit”. Choose one of the sections above.

In “Edit Details” section and complete all the blank boxes given. You have to finish all the blank boxes and click “Update” to update your details. After that, you can either view your presentations or you can delete it if you are not satisfied with it and make a new one but it is easy if you just edit the slides. If you choose to keep your presentation as private, click “Private”. You can also let the users download your materials or not.

Finally, by clicking the “here” button will lead you to the presentation you have published. You can insert any link of videos that you want at the “Enter Video URL” box, for example, you can get the link from YouTube or DailyMotion. Then, you need to select “Placement” for choosing its placement, whether on the second slide or third slide or other slides. You can drag the slides and put it at any place you want. If you wish to add another video, click the “Add another video” button.

You can tick on the small boxes on the bottom to remove the unwanted videos. Next, click “Insert & Publish” once you have finished it. Now, you can view your presentations with videos in it. If you choose to keep your presentation as public, click “Public”. Choose people who can view your materials by sharing them your password of the materials or only you can view your materials. If you want users to download your materials, choose “Yes”, if it is either way around, choose “No”.

THE ADVANTAGES OF USING SLIDESHARE. 1. FOR EDUCATORS

a) Uploading presentation. The educators can start uploading their presentation slides and other documents that are related to their teaching materials within an hour for students. There are two types of SlideShare which are for note-taking purpose and also educational power point that can be used in the classroom. There are many other types of slideshow such as historical, animated, informative and factual. For educators, they must feel bored by doing the same thing all over again with using the same way of creating their slides, so, SlideShare helps them to provide new look to their presentation. SlideShare can help you to create beautiful presentations. The educators can let their students upload the materials before the class starts so they can preview their materials.

b) Share video, audio and photos. The video, audio, photos are the additional things that will make the slides more fun to read especially for students. Full-text slides can make the students easily bored so with the presence with some videos, audios and photos, it can help them to understand the slides better. Educators can include all these in their slides to make sure that they can teach with high understanding of the students. From photos or videos, students can see clearly what the contents are all about.

c) Can handle large files (anything less than 100md). The educators usually want the website that can handle large files. It is because they can save and store their document in the website. SlideShare is one of the examples that can help the educators to save their materials for teaching in it. SlideShare helps educators to prepare all the materials they want to teach. They are able to retrieve their slides again if they want to.

a) Easy to setup. SlideShare is easy to setup especially for students who wants to use it for the first time. Simply fill in the forms with your details or your company or you can connect SlideShare via Facebook and LinkedIn accounts. When you connect your SlideShare account through Facebook, it is faster because you will automatically log in into your account if you do not log out from your Facebook account.

b) Zero cost. SlideShare is 100% free for sign up, sign in, upload or even for download any materials you want. When students sign up to the account, there is no cost needed. They can download materials from their teachers without paying even cost them a penny.

c) Easy use info graphic. The students who like arts can use SlideShare because it is a suitable medium to share their creativity. Then, they can upload the info graphic for other user comment and see their works. This will make the students enhance their skill and talent in art and design. The SlideShare also helps them using info graphic to make their slide more beautiful and fun to read by the readers.

You should more stands out and the boring contents do not cut it of the presentation.

b) SlideShare as a tool for branding While in your brand, your areas of expertise play a big part of that brand, and those areas are what you want to get across with your SlideShare presentations. There are already plenty of attorneys in the SlideShare race. Furthermore, the trick is to find out which race you belong in to gain the advantage. I’m not sure if this is a change in Google’s algorithm, a reflection of the rising importance of SlideShare, or I’m just more aware of presentations appearing in the results. SlideShare results aren’t like images or videos, where they are treated and displayed differently than traditional results, so they don’t always stand out, so you may have seen some slide decks in your Google results without even realizing it.

i) Take Advantage of Mobile Users I was beyond impressed when I clicked on a search result the other day that took me to a slide deck on SlideShare. The presentations filled the screen and the site felt more like a native app than a website. Analytics will allow you to view company, location, referrers, search keywords and measure performance on Facebook and Twitter.
