COMPUTER Monica LoCascio [email protected] The Elementary Computer Program is designed to complement and be integrated into the regular curriculum while teaching essential computer skills to students at an ageappropriate level. By the end of Grade 5, students are proficient in basic computer operations, keyboarding, word processing, presentation software, research skills and creative software applications so that they can participate in the middle school academic environment. All grade levels from 1-5 learn the rules of digital citizenship to keep them safe online. This is the second year that AIS elementary school will have a true 1:1 tech device program. From Grade K - 3, each student is assigned their own classroom iPad. Educational apps, aligned with our core curriculum are installed on all the iPads. In grades 4 and 5 students are assigned a laptop computer (Chromebook). These are used in the classroom on a regular basis for student writing projects, media projects, research and communication with the teacher. We use the Google Suite so that students can collaborate with each other and teachers have instant access to student work. We use Seesaw for Schools so that students can document and share their work with their classmates and families, and so their portfolio travels with them as they move up in grades. Monica LoCascio, the tech integrator, works with all teachers and students to find the best methods for implementing the rich technological resources available at AIS.
