Top Three Useful Features and Specifications Of A Multifunction Printer The multifunction printer or MFP has the potential to be one of the most essential devices in your office. It’s an all-in-one printer, scanner, and copier, so it eliminates the need to buy separate devices that can take up more space on your desk. Some models even come with a fax function. There is no doubt that multifunction printers offer the best value for your money, especially if you are looking to enhance your workflow and reduce costs by consolidating some critical assets. As you explore the range of MFPs, you should be able to find these top three useful specifications and features in them: 1. Fast print speed – Sluggish print speeds can affect your productivity and lead to frustration. A good multifunction printer should be able to produce at least 10 ppm (Pages Per Minute) in color and 20 ppm in monochrome as a minimum standard. 2. Print and scanning qualities – MFPs can print in monochrome (black and white) or color, or both. Monochrome MFPs are typically more affordable than color, and ideally, their minimum resolution should be 600 x 600 dpi (dots per inch). DPI can be a good indicator of overall print quality. So, if the resolution is 2400 x 1200 dpi, the print quality should be high-quality. For color printers, the minimum resolution should be 1200 x 1200 dpi. If you require higher-quality color printouts, look for a resolution of around 4800 x 2400 dpi. For the scanner, make sure that the resolution is a minimum of 1200 x 600 dpi to produce clear and high-quality scans. Ink - A multifunction printer can either be inkjet or laser. The latter is known to produce higher-quality images and it operates more efficiently when it comes to cost per page. The downside is that laser toner cartridges are typically more expensive, although they last much longer. Moreover, laser printers usually print faster than inkjet printers.
