ri-Star’s remount program was born when the Nova Scotia government moved from a van style Type II ambulance to a cab-chassis model Type III platform. One of the factors in keeping the high-performance fleet of 180 ambulances and patient transfer units reliable is to replace the chassis every 48 months. Tri-Star has gained experience in the remounting of over 500 units for Nova Scotia and other clients.

It begins in the engineering and design of the original modular patient compartment. Built to last and designed for the planned remount the aluminum body is designed and manufactured to rigid standards in Tri-Star’s fabrication plant. The first step in the program is the removal and storage of all cabinetry and fixtures from the inside and all compartments. The body then moves to the Tri-Star paint and prep area where all the imperfections are replaced or repaired before the body is completely repainted to the high standard set for new product. The body makes its way to the Tri-Star final assembly floor where it is mounted on a new chassis. The “rebuild” and installation of the cabinetry and fixtures follow the same quality processes of a new unit and any imperfections are replaced or repaired in the process. New options are added as per customer requirements if possible. Special attention is paid to the electrical and control system and harnesses are replaced as necessary. Systems and fixtures are reviewed and replaced as required. The savings can be as high as 30% compared to a new replacement. You can follow the process by flipping the following pages.
